Drawing a Graphic Novel

Birth of the Graphic Novel (2007)

*** (out of 4)

Believe it or not, this look at the making of THE HILLS HAVE EYES graphic novel is perhaps the best special feature on the disc. Clocking in at 13-minutes, this featurette gives you a behind-the-scenes look with the people behind the graphic novel. They start off talking about what they goal was in making a prequel to the two films that were released by Fox. Once the story is set up we learn about how the script for a graphic novel is laid out and we then learn how the pictures are set up. From here we learn from the artists involved with the novel and hear what they try to bring to life on the pages. I'm not going to lie but I'm really not much of a reader so my knowledge of graphic novels are quite limited but I really had a good time with this featurettes because of how well detailed it was in the interviews but also the footage of the pictures coming to life. Fans of the novel will certainly enjoy hearing these stories and those unfamiliar with the work will get a great idea of how it's done.
