A moving piece of speculative fiction

I'm surprised at the low score this short is getting on IMDb, because this short deserves better.

In a different present-day world, single people have started to die. The lonelier they are, or the more broken their heart, the faster they die. They just drop dead.

In this environment, people have taken to desperately and ruthlessly finding their perfect match, though it may mean death for everyone they reject or leave.

Dating services have sprung up to take advantage of this, and Tim (Kristian Kiehling) joins. But it's difficult and Tim is even provided combination libido-sedative pills to make matches easier. He eventually finds himself sent to "Denise", who the computer has decided is a perfect match for him. The only problem for him is that "Denise" is actually Dennis (Max Engelke).

Because Tim already signed an agreement requiring he not break up with "Denise" due to his many previous failures, he is forced to stay in the relationship. Soon he sees that Dennis does want him, so he takes the pills, and slides into bed with him. They have an exciting night together.

But in the morning, when Dennis learns that it was just the pills, and not really Tim's own feelings, he is heartbroken. He arranges for his sister to show up while he's gone, with tragic results.

The end shows a government desperately trying to keep people alive, by forcing marriages on them.

I think some people may find the dead-gay-guy ending offensive, due to film's long history of killing off gay characters so straight people can be happy, but it does work in this film. The gay guy is the hero, saving the man he loves, and his sister.
