Game On

A really good start for the show here. It had that 90's charm, it was funny, they established some good characters off the get go. Definitely excited for more to come.

The Ducks Are Back!...Kind of
brennancmb1227 March 2021
I liked this episode for a lot of different reasons. 1 being the cast seems solid and 2 because Emilio Estevez seems might comfy back in the role of Bombay! He definitely stole the show every scene he was in. Lauren Graham is funny in a ton of different scenes and doesn't come off annoyingly, more sweet than anything else.

It feels like a continuation and I want that to keep up. The ending scene at the Ice Palace ruled btw... can't wait for next week!

Smart, funny, a little cynical, and right on the money.

From this first episode the script is smart, funny, cynical, and cutting all to the right degrees. The characters make their speeches and you nod and agree because you know they are right. And, while I am familiar with the Mighty Duck franchise and I believe I know where it is all going, its set at a pace that doesn't force the coincidences necessary to get the story going at us all at once.

The MIghty Ducks Meets The Little Giants
jtw92926 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
It's been 25 years since we've last seen The Mighty Ducks on screen. And I thought the way that they started the first episode was a great nod to the original series. We see a zamboni.with a nice little easter egg Hendrix sponsor logo on it. We also see the new Ducks logo on the center ice and the scoreboard also with a Hendrix logo on it. For anyone that recalls D2, you'll get the reference. Then that iconic Ducks theme song starts to play. This is when we meet our main characters of the new series Evan, played by. Brady Noon and his mom Alex, played by Lauren Graham. To cut to the chase, Evan gets cut by the team. Him mom makes a scene and then tells her son that they should form their own team. If anyone has ever seen the 1994 football kids film The Little Giants, it's very much that storyline. But it works. We see Evan recruit a ragtag team of kids who barely know how to skate. Meanwhile we see Alex trying to find an arena where they can play. This is where Coach (although not anymore) Gordon Bombay makes his first appearance. He manages a rundown ice rink. He hates hockey. He needs the money. So the biggest question is- Why does Gordon now hate hockey? What happened over the last 25 years? I have to imagine it's what has become of the Mighty Ducks symbol in this universe. They are now the powerhouse (like the Hawks in the first movie). And Bombay has maybe become a little salty over this. We will obviously find out more throughout the season. Now I have to talk about one particular kid that they recruit. It's the kid that they want to play the goalie. His name is. Koobler, but you could almost call him Goldberg Jr. Seriously, did this actor not look like Shaun Weiss aka Greg Goldberg when he was a kid. And to top it off, he's going to be the goalie. I thought that was a great nod. There were some other good little Easter eggs throughout this episode. We already mentioned Hendrix. In Bombay's office we see a photo of him at the beginning of D2, when he was playing minor hockey with the Waves. At the end of the episode we see the other teams in the league, which is a callback to the first film. We have the Hawks, the original powerhouse. There are also the Cardinals, another team we saw in the first film. Another Easter egg that I think will play bigger later on in the series, is where Alex works. We find out that she is a paralegal. Although it's not mentioned, in the credits, one of the characters goes by the last name Ducksworth. This is also a callback to the first film, Ducksworth was the name of the law office that Gordon worked at. So most likely it's the same office that Alex works at. I think they are trying to set up a connection between Alex and Gordon. As far as the new kids, I think they have a fun group of youngsters. My favorite so far has to be the podcast host Nick. He's funny and brings that lovable loser spirit to the show. Just like the original trilogy, the show is putting together a diverse group of kids to round out the team. Though so far we only have seven kids on the team, don't be surprised to see more kids join throughout. As a huge fan of the original trilogy, I was so skeptical about a new show. But I most say, after one episode, I like where this show is heading.

Loved it
hyattjenny184 April 2021
I did the one month free trial of Disney+ only to watch this show because I was a huge fan of the movie trilogy. I loved the series, I too saw the nods to the movie trilogy and thought they were done well and tasteful. I am very interested to see how the series explains Bombay's new found hate for hockey. When the movie series ended I got the impression he had gone back to being a lawyer but still had a great love of the game, and was keeping in touch with the players of his team.

I too saw Lauren Graham channeling just enough of her Gilmore Girls character, not too much, it was just enough, which was nice. The cast and storyline is wonderful.

So far good. Only time will tell if it deserves praise
T-ZER026 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Don't think I'm hating because of the title. I grew up with the Mighty Ducks. I'm just afraid Disney will ruin them in the future like they did with Star Wars. However, I will say, so far. This show looks promising. I've always wanted a live-action mighty ducks show for over 10 years. Now we have one.

I know this is just the pilot, but in the future I hope to see. Cameos, Easter eggs and more references to the original. BTW, they did great in the Easter eggs by adding the Hawks teams and the Bears. Two teams from the original ducks trilogy. Only time will tell if this show is worth every penny. But so far it looks promising. :)

Off to a pretty good start
c5150-8634427 March 2021
This could've been doomed from the start if the new cast of kids were even the slightest bit annoying, but thankfully that's not the case (so far). The jury's out on Bombay, I'm sure they'll explain why he's seemingly done nothing these past 25 years and supposedly hates hockey now, but it's great to see Emilio Estevez. I like the commentary on how some parents are so obsessive about their kids' sports even though practically none of them actually go on to have careers as athletes. There's a handful of funny lines and it's nice to know Steven Brill (who wrote all three movies) had an active hand in this, maybe he's making up for D3!

Hang on, it gets better
fksnupnr2 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The show starts off VERY cringe-worthy with the character set-up, especially with the parents.

But if you can make it past the first 15 minutes or so, you might like the show. But those first 10-15 minutes are very rough.

Then Bombay shows up, and it gets better. The new kid on the ice. Hot chocolate bar. The Wall. The greatest love of all.

I remember seeing the original movie in theaters countless times as a kid, so it's hard for me not to compare what I felt then compared to today.

So if you're on the fence, give it a shot.

Lorelai's return
maxime-marcel29 March 2021
I started to watch the first episode for Lauren Graham and stayed for the fine writing. Although Graham's role seems to be quite similar to her character in Gilmore Girls, it works very well in the context of the show. I thought it would be cheesy and childish (be yourself, follow your dreams, sky is the limit) but it turned it out to be about becoming your own person and finding the courage to create your own luck. Let's hope following episodes will be as good.

THE WORST WRITERS = GOLDSMITH & YUPSA
jmrxx-0358619 April 2023
This H & W, writing team, continue to bring their poor moral and parental values and philosophy into this series. Instead of healthy and constructive as well as responsible young adults, they portray morally bankrupt young adults of privilege, elitist Los Angeles and in particular Santa Monica, kids who attend private schools and have no idea of the way 99% of the population really live. Perhaps this is because in their own personal lives they display these values with their own Children. When Goldsmith's Mother was dying, the entire family abandoned her and left her alone to die, while she cried for their presence, for the last 18 months of her life she was alone without the comfort of these brats to visit her. Would you want to watch anything these Horrors write? OMG, what terrible writing by GOLDSMITH & YUPSA.
