Eddie Large referred to the kangaroo incident in his 2005 autobiography "Larger Than Life":
"Inside the studios, it was fun as well, largely because, perhaps to his credit, Michael Hurll didn't give a shit. You're absolutely not allowed to have animals in the BBC rehearsal rooms, but Hurly-Burly refused to let a little thing like a BBC rule get in the way of his genius. He had got this brilliant new idea that we would do sketches with animals and he had the poor dumb creatures smuggled up the back stairs. [...] In the final week of one series, Michael presented his piece de resistance... a kangaroo that was going to have a boxing match with Syd. We were intrigued by the idea and waited for the animal man, Bobby Roberts, to turn up. We were standing around the huge rehearsal room, which had a beautifully polished floor, talking about all the laughs we had enjoyed on the series, when this kangaroo burst in with Bobby Roberts hanging desperately onto its tail as if he were water-skiing. They were slipping all round the room at high speed, and Syd, Michael and I were crying with laughter as it just looked so funny."
