Green vs. Red is an interesting anime.
psychogoatee7 October 2009
This OVA celebrates the 40th anniversary of Lupin, and it includes a bunch of nods to previous Lupin anime. Pretty much every criminal on the planet has taken to disguising themselves as Lupin, and we end up seeing pretty much every Lupin character design used, even the pink jacket.

A new main character for this is a guy named Yasuo, named after Lupin's original voice actor, who looks just like Lupin and wears a green jacket.

Meanwhile, the real Lupin in the red jacket and his partner Jigen are doing their thing as always. They're on the run, all sorts of random wackiness happens to them, and there's a constant mob of fake Lupins causing them trouble.

Pretty much, a lot of this is somewhat somber slice-of-life stuff focusing on the Yasuo guy. This is decent stuff, though of course it's kind of odd for a Lupin story.

As for the story, well, it's pretty much just Yasuo competing with Lupin to try and become the "real" Lupin.

Fujiko is only in this briefly, although there are some interesting scenes where Yasuo sees her and it's animated like a psychedelic trip. Goemon pretty much has a cameo role, and Zenigata is great as always.

This is a pastiche, sort of an abstract, arty anime that pays some tribute to that laid back Lupin feel of old. The actual story however is pretty esoteric, and not entirely satisfying.

All in all, this is an interesting anime that is somewhat thought provoking and beautifully animated. While it's not a proper entry in the Lupin series, it's still well put together and worth a watch.

Who's Lupin the 3rd?
Aoi_kdr25 August 2019
'GEEN vs RED' is based on the colour of Lupin's jacket which is different depend on each titles. Sometimes he wears red one, and other times he wears green one. Every series has different elements, not only jackets. For instance, his philosophy, rules and even face. Then a lot of people who introduced themselves as Lupin the 3rd gathered from all over the world. Then, this movie asked you which character is true him after all. I really liked this theme! So,to be honest, it was not enough to be satisfied! I want Mamoru Oshii make it again! Originally, it was based on his idea though! If the identification needs the other's recognition, it means that his essence depends on the others. Is the person Lupin truly if the environment like Jigen and Fujiko recognize that he is, isn't he?

Do you know this impressive comic from Junji Ito? People found a lot of holes which has shapes of the human on the wall of a mountain. It seemed to go on and on. People found the same shape of themselves and went into there though. After all, their remains were found. You cannot see them the shapes of human being because of the terrible distortion. It means the shape of holes goes twisting as going on. But their bodies were distorted for the shapes of holes without noticing while going on and on. If you try to be suit for some template, you may become like them. In my opinion, originally it doen't look enjoyable that I won't update myself forever! If you tried something what you're not likey to do at first, it will be stuit to you later. Of course, I'm glad that someone told me 'it's suit to you!' and 'I know you like it!' But I'm more happy to hear that he's surprised with one of my new personality!

Originally, there's no 'regular' Lupin the 3rd.

hundreds of Lupins

Warning: Spoilers
Then this Lupin III film released on the market a video Then this film I won't tell you the plot because this one didn't even have a real plot because only a month really a lot of stuff in this film that you don't understand anything at all So the first what happens that in Tokyo they arehundreds of Lupines popped up literally a thousand mirrors all these Lupines appeared Peppe that a Lupine Who stole a parking lot in a supermarket and so these ton of Lupines appeared to get him and they will ask me And who are all these mountains of Lupins they are just godsvulgar and imitators and when they did this thing they don't count for anything in this film since we won't see them anymore and I wonder who that Lupine is who is wearing his old green jacket. But then there really is a scene that doesn't make any sense at all no sense or that Fujiko gives a slapto Lupine But this is really something not without because Lupine didn't do anything at all Yet she gives a slap for no reason but in my opinion you can give slaps without any reason to do so and then the ending where you don't understand what happens because you he just feels that this Lupine isa new Lupine Yes but since This movie was just a disappointment for me and I'm also surprised that this movie only received a score of 5.7 well even if a lot of people didn't like this movie it's for me another worst movie of Lupine III who had a wasted opportunity EThank goodness that this film isn't the last film either. And thank goodness because if it ended this way I would be very disappointed to conclude with a rating of 5.

A more serious tone

Lupin iii film 1

Very weird Lupin movie. Not bad per se. Has its funny moments but it's more serious. Everyone wants to be Lupin at least once in their lives, that's this movie message, but there's only one. I think there are still better movies on the series.

Now I need to exceed characters for the review so ignore:

A psychological/philosophical Lupin extravaganza.
bse5135 October 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Well, first off, if you haven't seen a lot of Lupin you probably won't like this that much. So...please watch some of the second series, "Episode 0: First Contact," "The Secret of Mamo," and "Castle of Cagliostro" beforehand. Second, it can be really confusing, which I believe is on purpose. The first thing that turned me off was that I thought they'd changed Lupin's voice to some dude with a really low voice. It turns out later that this is not the case, at least not exactly. If you don't want anything to be really spoiled then just stop reading here and go watch the movie. You can see it and some other Lupin films on Hulu for free.

It would be really awesome to see a fan-edit of this where they put everything in chronological order. A couple parts of the movie seemed like they went too fast and I had to re-watch those parts (like the part with the huge robot). I think the end is great, it gave me a fuzzy warm "yeah!" feeling. As to what happened in the end I suppose it's open for debate, but I think if you look at all the clues in the movie it's pretty apparent (at least somewhat) although if you really want to go there, I guess it's possible that neither of the main Lupins in the film really were Lupin...which I'm starting to lean towards. But according to 'Lupin,' Lupin-ness is something that can be attained and so perhaps one or both of them were Lupin, or at least were/are Lupin for some amount of time.

What a head trip. Great movie.
