Laughs and tears
idrincon30 March 2020
It has been awhile since I have seen one show where in one hour I went from laughing so hard I almost cried to crying so hard I had to get a box of tissues. The episode was fantastically written and the music was so on-point that it is hard to imagine other songs tho make it work. Kudos to Zoey for bearing all the weight of the episode on her shoulders. Must see tv.

One jolt after another

Warning: Spoilers
I love this show and it's creativity and this episode continues that by turning things upside-down. Information overload has Zoey "malfunctioning" and spilling her own guts in song. It's one shocking revelation after another. Grab some tissues and come along for the crazy ride.

Excellent

I've never left a review on IMDB for anything, and I watch an absurd amount of movies and TV shows. I had to for this episode. I literally had so many emotions. I laughed, a lot. The premise of this episode was great. I even teared up. It was just all around a brilliant episode, with great writing. Cannot wait for more of this show. Love the cast so much. I've loved so many of them from other shows, and together they're amazing.

This episode made me laugh and cry and is by far the best of the season so far. Jane Levy is incredible but a special shoutout to Skylar Austin also. I just adore this show. #teamsimon

Yep...the reviews aren't wrong

This was the best show yet. If you're not crying by the end, you should seriously get tested to see if you're a sociopath. I will say, while I was so happy to see Lauren Graham on tv again, her character is needlessly off-putting. She doesn't have to be an arsehole.

Amazing episode. 🖤

I am always coming on here to check reviews and happen to check for this episode before actually watching it. Just finished, and have to admit, even after reading all the positive reviews, I was not ready. I can't believe what an amazing episode that was. The best yet! Absolutely beautiful! Laughed, cried, and can't wait for more. Loving this show.

Best Episode Yet

Warning: Spoilers
At last Zoey gets her own arias and releases a torrent of emotions! Now the question is whether or not she will be allowed to continue the expression of her deepest feelings by way of song and dance.

Next season, SPRQ is purchased by a wealthy mother-daughter team consisting of Calista Flockhart and Sutton Foster (who can play younger). They change the company's name to STAJPoint and move it to Las Vegas, where they change its focus to the development of technology dedicated to large stage productions. Okay, I made up this scenario. I was carried away by the show's indulgence in fantastical woolgathering.

Zoey's Extraordinary Glitch
Prismark1018 June 2020
The glitch being that after Zoey is told by the doctors that her dad's illness is getting worse.

Now when Zoey thinks she is imagining a song and dance routine where she is taking part in. In fact Zoey is singing and dancing in real, causing embarrassment to her and others as to her odd behaviour.

Zoey feels oddly compelled to just burst out singing. Only Max knows what is happening after her confession to him. Max even goes to help Zoey out when she is giving an important pitch.

A twist on the formula, it is linked to the trauma regarding her dad's prognosis. Just maybe Zoey seems to be having a breakdown of sorts.

I was rather put out that the story glossed over the bullying at work by Joan over the latest project formulated by her and Leif. When she demanded that the product is ready in six months despite the glitches and concerns raised by Zoey.

Then again this type of attitude is apparently common in IT projects. Bosses make overoptimistic promises. The underlings have to suffer. If only there was a song about it.

Why so stupid?
korpake7 January 2021
Great show, great everything except stupid writing in this episode. Such poor writing. The entire episode was based on really poor writing. Really intelligent woman acting in a completely stupid way in order for the plot to work. It breaks the character of Zoey and it is really lazy writing. Really annoying.

The episode the (Levy) fans have been waiting for
Horst_In_Translation11 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
"Zoey's Extraordinary Glitch" is really far from a glitch in the negative sense and this episode is considered by many the best the first season had to offer, maybe even the very best from the entire series that had admittedly only two seasons. But yeah, it is probably also the episode that helped lead actress Jane Levy more than any other to become a Golden Globe nominee. Think about it. Here we have a series with vital musical elements in every single episode, but in the first seven episodes you did not get to see lead actress Levy perform herself because it simply would have gone too much against the plot idea that her character is the one who sees others express their heartfelt emotions through music. However, in this episode something sad happens early on because of which Zoey herself is not really able anymore to control her emotions, not in the sense that she is crying all the time (takes until the very end for this to happen), but now she is the one singing and the other ones are watching. I mean it is admittedly a bit of a stretch honestly to feel credible, but if we are not too realistic for a short moment, then we can easily look past that. I would say that "Crazy" by Gnarls Barkley was already a big winner and perhaps the best inclusion of the episode, but the final song by LeAnn Rimes comes really close too, so it is almost impossible to decide for a winner. Maybe you prefer another song even depending on your personal liking. The two songs I mentioned one is pretty fast, the other is a ballad, so they are too different anyway to really compare.

Aside from that, we also get song performances that connect Zoey with her two romantic interests. One is apparently love, the other is passion. There both were good too, but I could not vote against "I'm Yours" by any means. Obviously, a lot is going on in Zoey's life right now in terms of family and romance that has a massive impact on her and all this we see during this top-notch episode here. This also results into a pretty chaotic business meeting with a crucial visitor. Not gonna lie, how Zoey's best buddy joined her there was really cool and sweet and made me enjoy this scene, even if I did not really know the song before, the one that they used there. This was the first of two episodes that on Turteltaub directed by the way and he really took this show to the next level. Gotta give props to him there. The other one was the season one finale. But the heart and soul here is of course Jane Levy. She really succeeds with all the different emotions so well here that I am a bit sad the show did not run for any longer. I surely hope she will have a great big-screen career in the future. I think she has all it takes for that. No Mo in this episode, she is maybe for the lighter ones, but I don't really like the character too much anyway and she got a bit of romantic closure the previous episode, so it's all fine.

Zak Orth is in it though and turning into a bit of a regular here now. Obviously, this is probably only gonna be the case for as long as Zoey's dad (Peter Gallagher) is around. This character got a bit of a devastating diagnosis here. So this is maybe only to some extent an episode that will put a smile on your lips, the comedy with the recurring calendar issues did not win me over either, but it will surely stun you from a dramatic perspective with all that happens. They could not have combined music and emotions better than they did in this eighth episode of season one from "Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist". Even Lauren Graham is somewhat bearable and usually I just don't like her at all, even if it is just not good how she is a bit of a victim in the situation with her young lover. If we can even call him that. Not gonna lie when I say that this show had a really hard time with me struggling around episode four of this maiden season and I was not sure at all if they could find a way out of the mess back then again, but if any more proof was needed after the previous episode(s), then this one here is the one that brings it. Slightly over 40 wonderful minutes of small-screen entertainment with marvelous song choices and performances. It's almost a shame they kept Levy's singing from us for so long. We will see how often it is going to be included in the following episodes. This one here is highly recommended. Oh and one thing I must not forget: Best pink sweater in TV history, no doubt about it!
