A headline-happy starlet and her husband turn Shannon's Place into bedlam with their publicity stunts. Before Slate can kick them out, the starlet confesses that she has accidentally murdered her husband. Trouble is, there's no corpse, no evidence of violence, and no husband. What's more, her jewels are gone too. Slate learns that the husband used the ruse to steal the jewels in order to pay off a gambling debt. When the gambler tries to sell the jewels back to the starlet, she admits that they are worthless. Shortly thereafter, she reports to Slate that her husband is dead -- again. This time, however, it's true -- and Slate battles his way through fighting cocks and switch-blade knives to bring the killer to Justice.
