Finally free. Greg Kelley's story is a complicated one, but that's not going to stop him from telling it. "At 18 years old, there was one part of that year where I was a high school kid who just wanted to make good grades, wanted to go play college football, wanted to get out of Leander, Texas and go make something of himself," Kelley, the subject of the Showtime docu-series Outcry, said on Just the Sip. "And then within one week, I am a labeled child molester." It was 2013 when Kelley was accused of molesting a 4-year-old boy, and 2014 when he was ultimately convicted of super-aggravated assault on a child and sentenced to 25 years in prison. However, as Kelley explained on...

Greg Kelley has hopes and dreams, like a lot of people. But he's also busy simply enjoying his freedom. The former high school football star, whose story was just told in the Showtime documentary series Outcry, spent three years in prison for a crime he didn't commit and, even after his release in 2017, he was only formally exonerated this past November. The crime? "Worse than murder" when you're in prison, Kelley said in an interview last month with E! News. Kelley started playing varsity football at Leander High School in Texas—where high school football on Friday rivals church on Sunday as a religious practice—when he was a sophomore. In 2013,...

When the #MeToo and Time’s Up movements made headlines in 2017, discussions centered on the importance of believing survivors. It was a rallying cry a long time coming for women who had been harassed, assaulted and ignored for decades. But allegations of sexual misconduct are complex, and now, two-and-a-half years later, Pat Kondelis’ new docuseries “Outcry” shines a light on how survivors’ stories can be corrupted by the mishandling of their case.
“Outcry” follows the story of former high school athlete Greg Kelley who was arrested in 2013 for the sexual assault of a 4-year-old boy. Although the boy named Kelley as his abuser and a second child made similar accusations (the second child later recanted), Kelley maintained his innocence, even through a trial and eventual conviction. The five-episode series, debuting July 5 on Showtime, focuses heavily on the support that rose up around Kelley; the evidence that mounted against his prior teammate,...

Rarely in recent memory has a TV show been so propitiously timed as “The Last Dance.” The 10-episode documentary series about the Michael Jordan-era Chicago Bulls premiered in May, weeks after the coronavirus pandemic caused the shutdown of all major live sports events, leaving fans bereft.
Into that void slipped “The Last Dance,” turning five straight Sunday nights into must-see events for large swathes of audiences quarantined at home. Over the course of its run, “The Last Dance” averaged 5.6 million viewers. And in seizing the moment, it’s becoming emblematic of a wave in sports documentary programming that has been building for years.
“It’s a funny time to celebrate any project and pat yourselves on the back, but I will say, I think it was the perfect project at a really specific point in time in our history,” says Libby Geist, vice president & executive producer, ESPN Films and Original Content.

Scheduled to debut August 9, Blumhouse Television series stars Ethan Hawke, Joshua Caleb Johnson, Ellar Coltrane, Hubert Point-Du Jour, Beau Knapp, Nick Eversman, Jack Alcott and Mo Brings Plenty.
The Good Lord Bird is based on James McBride’s 2013 novel and told from the point of view of Onion (Johnson), an enslaved boy, who is part of John Brown’s (Hawke) motley crew of abolitionist soldiers during the time of Bleeding Kansas, eventually participating in the famous 1859 raid on the Army depot at Harpers Ferry. Brown’s raid failed to initiate the slave revolt he intended, but was the instigating event that started the Civil War.

Showtime is bulking up its programming slate with a slew of documentaries to offer viewers now content as the ongoing pandemic continues to put Hollywood’s film and television productions on hold. The premium cabler has picked up Matt Tyrnauer’s “The Reagans” and is making plans to air a handful of documentaries in its Sunday primetime slot in the summer.
Variety reported that “The Reagans,” a four-part documentary about Ronald Reagan’s presidency, will examine what happened behind the closed doors and in the halls of the West Wing from 1981 through 1989. The docuseries does not have a release date and hasn’t been confirmed to air on Showtime during a Sunday primetime slot. Vinnie Malhotra, Showtime’s executive vice president of nonfiction programming, told the publication that the project would examine the high points of Reagan’s presidency, as well as the more controversial elements of his time in office.

Showtime has joined almost every network in being forced to make scheduling changes due to the coronavirus pandemic, which has caused widespread production shutdowns across the globe.
The cabler has announced that season 2 of “Black Monday,” which is currently airing, and season 5 of “Billions” will be interrupted mid-flow. “Black Monday” will air through six episodes until April 12, at which point it will go on hiatus, returning with its last four episodes at an undetermined point later this year. Likewise “Billions” is still on track to premiere May 3 and air seven episodes un-interrupted, before going off the air for an as yet undecided length of time.
“Black Monday” had completed shooting, but was still in post-production when the shutdown took affect, according to sources. “Billions” was still in the process of shooting.
In addition, the season 3 premiere of “The Chi” has been moved up to Sunday, June 21 to help plug the content gap.
