This episode received a negative review by Richard Edmonds in the Birmingham Daily Post (15th September 1977): "Perched on spotlit studio scaffolding, crammed into cluttered sets or striding windblown in the great outdoors, Mr. Essex continually looked like a moving Gauloise advert, ear ring and all. A pity really - where does a hoarse-voiced troubadour go at 30 ? At all events, not into shows like this which do little for him and less for us."
