I thought I was being hard on this series so I watched this episode with my wife. She laughed so much when I told her that co-writer and star was hoping this would be the next Only Fools and Horses.
The was the only laugh throughout the episode. It is a complete misfire.
In this episode Gary goes haywire when he loses his best player in his kids team, Abboussi to Chelsea. Any other reasonable human being would crow about it online that a boy he has coached has been scouted by Chelsea.
Gary gatecrashes Abboussi 's dad's workplace to give him a telling off. Meanwhile Terri embarasses herself in the gym as she wants to get an invite to a party that someone is having.
It is just not that it is not funny. These two characters have no perspective and I think the audience never sympathises with them.
Only Big Gary King played by Simon Day feels like a sitcom character. He steals his scenes. Then again Simon Day has done actual porridge for theft, so no surprise.
