One of the strongest episodes of season one. I really felt for the two sisters who shared painful stories of life with a horror of a mother. Bringing murder charges without a body is never easy. A conviction would have been extremely unlikely, so law enforcement's hands are tied. Knowing that a crime and its perpetrator are probable is not the same as convincing a jury beyond a reasonable doubt. Still, there is no statute of limitations on murder, so there is hope for eventual justice, no matter how slim.
I was left curious about the two parcels of land and the wherewithal to buy them. Life insurance on the murdered husband? Also, a search warrant to seek remains or permission from a new owner is an issue that needed more attention. Finally, it is another tragedy that the son of the murdered sister is in the custody of her likely killer. Again, a complex issue driven by the money for an attorney and the ability to raise the child in terms of one's financial situation. A judge likely had very limited options when no charges had been filed against the grandmother.
Kudos to those who stepped up to share what they knew and recalled. Family, friends, police, and the reporter all spoke out when silence would have been the path of least resistance. The editing and attention to the timeline made the crimes easy to follow. I feel for the sisters and wish them healing and happiness.
