- Feeling overwhelmed with all the changes since Crisis, Barry conducts an experiment that goes awry and puts him directly in Gorilla Grodd's path. Expecting the worst, Barry is surprised when Grodd asks for his help. Unfortunately for both The Flash and Grodd, things get worse when Solovar appears. Meanwhile, Iris works with Eva to escape the Mirrorverse.
- Barry takes flowers to an underpass and stares at a spot. He then gets a text of a meta attack and speeds there as Flash. Chester and Kamilla are monitoring the comms, and tell Barry that they're the only ones there because Cisco, Caitlin, Iris, and Ralph are all away. Chester is really to help, but Flash says that he'll handle it on his own.
Hartley Rathaway, aka Pied Piper is robbing diamonds at a shop, and blasts the cases open with a sonic blast from his powered gauntlets. Flash speeds in and yanks the gloves off, and wonders since when Pied Piper has been a diamond thief. Piper mentions what Flash and his friends did, and Flash has no idea what he did to him. He realizes that it's another Crisis change, and Piper says that the gauntlets are just a backup. He emits a sonic boom and flies off, and Chester and Kamilla track Piper to a street. When Flash gets there, a train almost hits him and he vibrates through it just in time. Flash had no idea that there was a train there... even though it's always been there since Crisis.
Later, Barry is working in the lab. He asks the AI, Gideon, to tell him everything that has changed since Crisis, but the changes are too innumerable to count. Chester and Kamilla come in and Chester sees Barry speed around, and is astonished to discover that Barry is Flash. As Barry says that he's working on something, Gideon announces that there have 3.725 trillion changes. Chester realizes that Barry is trying to upgrade Gideon to be mobile. He starts tampering with it, and Barry snaps at him to stop, pointing out that he's not on the team.
After Chester leaves for Jitters, Kamilla tells Barry that Chester is just trying to help. Barry admits that he's frustrated by all of the changes after Crisis, and that he went to his parents' grave but the cemetery isn't there and there's nothing but an underpass. He hasn't been able to find them at any graveyard in Central City, and says that friends like Hartley are enemies now. Kamilla figures that he wants something familiar, and it's not her and Chester on comms. She tells Barry to take it easy on Chester because he idolizes Flash, and leaves.
In the mirror dimension, Iris has Eva walk her through the night of the particle explosion. She was working on a prototype machine, and Iris asks her to finish building it in the mirror dimension. When Eva hesitates, Iris wonders what she's afraid of. She says that she's read Eva's research and she was brilliant, and that's good enough for her. Eva figures that they'll be brave together.
At the Citizen office, Nash shows Allegra a residual particle catcher that he's built. He plans to detect the molecular afterglow of things, and he wants Allegra to help him catch particles. Allegra realizes that he's nervous, and when Nash says anomalies, she figures that they're related to Crisis. Nash says that Allegra never liked being kept in the dark, and she wonders why he acts like he knows her. Nash says it's not true, and he hallucinated Sherloque there saying that he's a liar.
Nash tries to ignore Sherloque and asks Allegra to aim a UV ray at the absorption panel. Sherloque says that the device won't work, and when Allegra blasts it the backlash knocks her down. Nash's bag is knocked over, and Allegra sees a photo of Nash with Allegra's doppelganger. She demands to know what's going on, and figures that when Nash looked at her he saw another person. Furious, Allegra storms out.
Barry puts on an earpiece hooked up to Gideon, and he passes up. He wakes up in a cage in a laboratory, and his powers are gone. Caitlin comes in and Barry asks her what is going on. She treats him like a subject, and Welles comes in. Barry figures that Welles drew him back into the past and vows to stop him, and Caitlin goes to check on Ronnie as he works on the Pipeline. She leaves and Welles goes with her.
Iris visits Joe in his office and says that he hoped he found something new on Carver. Joe says that he has but can't share it with Iris. He explains that he has to do everything by the book, and insists that it is CCPD business. Iris snaps at him and then apologizes, and says that the case means a lot to her. Joe tells her that there's nothing he can do, and Iris invites her father to join her for lunch. He says that he has a few things to deal with first.
At STAR Labs, Frost returns from ARGUS and tells Chester to go work things out with Barry. Chester is hesitated to ruin things, and Frost reminds him that he built a black hole over Central City. They find Barry unconscious on the workshop floor.
Caitlin tells Barry to use his signs, and he has no idea what he's talking about. Welles comes in and says that Barry is a gorilla, and Barry looks at his face in a pan of water and realizes that the image is Grodd's. He figures that he's in a mindscape, and Grodd speaks through "Caitlin" and Welles, telling Barry that he's in his mind, now. Grodd says that he's still in a mental coma at ARGUS, and he wants understanding. He wants Barry to experience what it's like to have nothing but captivity. Caitlin betrayed Grodd, but Barry gave her the authority to create the inhibitor. Grodd insists that Barry took his mind is cruelty, not punishment.
Barry asks Grodd if he remembers how many people he hurt, and insists that Grodd got what he deserved. Grodd admits that Barry is right. The gorilla explains that without the power of higher thinking, Grodd was forced to confront his crimes without lying to himself. Now that Grodd has entered Barry's mind through the cerebral earbud, he asks Barry to help him, explaining the neutral inhibitor has a "gatekeeper" The gatekeeper is the only way out of Barry's prison. Grodd insists that he's changed and asks Barry to help him by defeating the gatekeeper.
Barry points out that Grodd won't even show his face. Caitlin and Harrison disappear, and Grodd steps out and releases Barry from his cage. He says that Barry's powers are returned, and asks him to help Grodd defeat the gatekeeper. Barry speeds out and punches Grodd unconscious, figuring that the gorilla will never change and he's exactly where he belongs.
Frost, Kamilla, and Chester hook Barry up to Sherloque's machine that puts one person's mind into another person's memories. Barry has two brainwaves, and Chester can't contain his enthusiasm about the device. Frost explains that if they can sync up with Barry's neutral transmitters, they can communicate with him. Nash comes in and tells Frost to come with him outside. Chester is surprised that Harrison is alive.
In the hallway, Nash tells Frost that Allegra has discovered that she's his daughter's doppelganger. Frost tells him to explain it to Allegra and walks back into the workshop.
Flash speeds through the wilderness and finds the gate. Solovar drops down in front of him and Flash realizes that he is the gatekeeper. The gatekeeper says that no one will escape, even Flash, and charges at him. Flash's vibrational powers don't work on Solovar, and in the real world his body convulses in response to Solovar's attack.
Solovar charges at Barry and swings at him, just missing.
Frost realizes that Barry is in Grodd's mind, and explains that the neural inhibitor they put on Grodd can only sustain one mind. Eventually the mindscape will collapse and Barry will die. If they have ARGUS shut down the inhibitor, Barry will be trapped. Chester admits that he tweaked the earbud earlier, boosting the signal by 900%. It's enough for Grodd to piggyback onto Barry's mind. Upset, Chester blames himself and leaves.
Frost goes after Chester and asks how his running away will help. She points out that they've all endangered Barry's life in the past but got him out of it, and it's Chester's turn. Chester tells Frost that he build a drone in sixth grade but it didn't fly on the day of the science fair. He begged his teacher to let him fix it, and he said no because he was an old school brother. The teacher said that in the real world, people like them don't get a second chance. As Chester starts to go, Frost tell him that she's offering him a second chance because they all deserve one.
Iris calls Joe and apologizes for missing their lunch meeting. Once she hangs up, Iris downloads information from the laptop to a flash drive, smiles, and leaves.
The real Iris assures Eva that she can do it, but Eva warns that the particles the device emits will penetrate the mirror but not the barrier. Iris figures there's another reason Eva doesn't want her to use the machine, and Eva says that they can't use it. She reaches through the mirror and pulls her arms out: and they're burned.
Barry returns to the lab and finds Grodd there appearing as Joe. Grodd explains that he wants Flash to see a face he could trust, and admits he thought Flash could beat the gatekeeper. Barry yells at him that he was wrong and figures Grodd intended the gatekeeper to kill him. The world dies and Grodd explains that if it collapses, they both die. Grodd tells Barry that he has changed and didn't want to kill Barry, and says that he knows about Crisis. His mind wasn't affected, but he can still senses changes in reality. Gorilla City and the gorillas are there, and Grodd wants to return home.
Grodd admits that he used to want power, but power brought pain rather than happiness. Now Grodd wants a new path, and wants to live in peace with his own kind. Gorilla City was the only place Grodd felt happy. Barry realizes that Grodd has changed, and explains that he believes Grodd has let go of the past... and maybe he should as well. He figures that he can't keep things as they were, and Grodd reminds him that if he can't beat Solovar, the world collapse and they both die. Barry figures that they have to try something new and run forward, not backward. Grodd reverts to his real form and asks how, and Barry says that they have to fight together.
In the forest, Flash and Grodd confront the Solovar gatekeeper. Flash tells Grodd that they can do it together, and the two of them take each other's hands. The speedster syncs himself into Grodd's body, and in the real world Frost realizes that they've synced brainwaves.
Flash speaks from within Grodd, telling him to use his powers and his knowledge of them to get them out of them. Grodd speeds at Solovar, slamming him to the ground.
Frost links up with Barry, and Barry says that he and Grodd have merged minds.
Grodd and Solovar fight, and the world collapses around them. Solovar tells Grodd that nothing can save him, and Frost says that if Barry exits the mind, the two of them will end up in one body. The resulting physiological conflict will cause both of them to die. Chester comes in and says that it's possible for Gideon to separate Barry and Grodd at the perfectly timed moment. He warns that he has to augment the device and worries that he'll mess things up. Barry hears him talking and assures Chester over the mind sync that Chester is a genius and he can do it. F4rost tells Chester to take his second chance and show them what he can do, and Chester goes to work.
Solovar beats Grodd/Flash, saying that Grodd stinks of fear. Barry tells Grodd not to listen because he has too much to live for, and should show Solovar what he's made of. Grodd vibrates through Solovar and speeds around his opponent.
Chester works on the device.
Grodd punches Solovar, knocking him out, then runs for the portal. He goes through just as Chester activates his device. Barry and Grodd's brainwaves separate, and Barry wakes up in his own body... thanks to the team.
Later, Barry, Frost, Kamilla, and Chester have drinks and Barry says that Lyla agreed to let Grodd out on probation... with a tracking device implanted in his cerebellum. Cisco calls Kamilla and says that he's coming home, and Frost goes in to check with ARGUS. Barry apologizes to Chester for how he treated him earlier, saying that he's not dealing with the loss of his family. Chester accepts his apology and says that he's hacked every cemetery database and found the Allens' graves. Barry smiles and thanks Chester. The alarms go off and Barry asks Chester to man the comms. He does and located Pied Piper, and assures Barry that he's ready to help take the villain down.
Iris binds Eva' burns, and Eva says that she wanted to provide evidence that what she was saying was true. Her colleagues dismissed her theories because she couldn't prove they were true. Iris assures Eva that she believes she's capable of great things, and they'll find another way when Eva is feeling better. Eva sends Iris to get some more bandages, and then goes to the mirror. The mirror Iris is on the other side, her arms burned. Eva tells her that she bought them time, heals the mirror Iris' wounds, and says that there's no reason for her to suffer.
Nash goes to the Citizen and paces nervously outside, and sees Allegra inside. He looks at the photo of him and his daughter, and starts to go in. Sherloque stops him, vibrates like Reverse Flash, and says that "he... is... coming."
