boring
WankerReviews6 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The very beginning of the movie was promising, it was creepy suspenseful, wastes no time introducing you to this family's horror. Then 5 minutes in I realized how bad the acting was. The actors made a good effort, so maybe this is more so to do with directing. Girls witness their mom getting eaten and they react like ''oh no aw shucks, oh well crap happens''. Just no emotion. Also the little kid who was brought back to life, looked like a girl but they kept calling her ''mark'', then later I find out it's an actual boy. Odd. Death scenes were boring, most of time you don't see anything, it jump cuts to the dinosaur chewing and someone screaming.

Old idea, poorly executed
njames_199916 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
OK, I liked the fact that it appeared to be set in Britain and was set in an English country house like the old 1970s Tom Baker Doctor Who episodes, where alien invasions never got beyond the main gates. But that is as far as it goes.

The CGI was low budget, but serviceable in places. The storyline and dialogue was nonsensical throughout. Virtually nothing made sense. Why do people not run when they see a dinosaur, or even close a door? Why did the Police send the army? Why did the army shoot and kill one of our heroes for no good reason? Why could they not find their 'jeeps'? Why is the little girl called 'Mark'?

The film has all the cliches. A car that won't start (randomly, when it was actually driving!). A lady who gets her foot stuck in a branch whilst running through a forest and can't get it out. How many times has that happened to you?

The acting ranged from amateur dramatics to downright awful. Prize for the worst performance goes to Nicole Nabi. She barely uttered a convincing word, and I found her performance so bad it was comical. Did somebody really think she could act?

I could go on with the inconsistencies, but it isn't worth it. You'll get the idea.

Oh yes, and eventhe ending makes no sense. And I don't mean three eggs appearing when one had been removed. I mean that you don't show eggs hatching at the end of a film unless you have killed off the dinosaurs. It simply is not a shock ending when all the dinosaurs are still running around!

Terrible movie.... good plot and story but badly made.
beenbear26 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Terrible movie... needed more introduction to the characters... I thought the kid was a girl for half the movie. The kid didn't even know what a dinosaur is but can't blame him... the "dinosaurs" were a bit janky in animation. It's good they are clearly inspired by Jurassic Park but so many scenes were recreations of it. The whole genetic thing was an interesting storyline it's just a shame that it clearly didn't have the budget to be made properly. It had a good idea for the plot but CGI was bad, acting was OK could have done with more character backstory I feel like there was more to the family than they had time to delve into. In more depth this movie could have been awesome.

Waste of film!

Warning: Spoilers
Totally lame jurassic wannabe!

Effects could have been done better by high-school students with a budget of a couple hundred dollars!

So-called military personnel were obviously supposed to be mercenary soldiers, but what the f*** were they doing there in the first place, and, why were they screaming like little girls when they were supposed to be badasses.

Amazon prime video is obviously getting desperate for content, but this is beyond stupid!

This is as bad as it can get
kalvarado-153643 November 2021
Bad plot, bad acting, bad, bad, bad!

And it you have a smart tv it gets worse because everything looks so real time that you can see the horrible visuals.

The movie is slow and I've never seen anyone take so long to realize that a dinosaur is literally next to them. How can you NOT know that a T-Rex is close? Really?

There are serious amounts of cliches and it's just the cheesiest thing I've seen in a long while.

I take it that this was merely an exercise to give practice to new actors, new directors, cinematographers, CGI, et cetera. That's the only explanation I can give.

Bicycle helmet
ryso-7549328 January 2023
What a load of old tosh! Why was the so called private wearing a bicycle helmet! Terrible acting and very poor story line. The Doctor went from replicating DNA to reproducing dinosaurs...as one would of course. People in the world are suffering so why no bring back t-rex?

The whole thing should really have been watched before releasing and put in the bin... The CGI is not the best and the army chaps are no more army than me! I don't know how much the budget was but it was too much. Its a shame really as it could have been so much better and the acting better. Never mind...Hatched??? More like Hatchet!

Hatched: Jerk-tastic Park
gpantalone12 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Wow. Where to start. How about lame script. If you don't have a Jurassic Park budget, maybe don't try to take on something that's going to require some pretty sophisticated special effects. But that's not the worst of it. The worst is characters that say and do things that normal people just don't do. Rachel is laying on the ground and everyone but her sees a 28-foot tall Tyrannosaurus Rex standing right next to her. When she finally notices this little fella, dumb ass tells her "Don't move!" Because he's clearly seen Jurassic Park and I guess he knows that if you don't move, the dinosaur can't see you. Then, bad ass Army guys show up (with beards and pony tails?) and he says "Whatever that thing is out there.." ... uhm... it's a dinosaur.... I thought we'd established that by now. And Mark... is Mark supposed to be a boy? I thought at first it was just some quirky new-age name for a small girl, like Marky Post, or "Effervescence". But they keep calling her... him... whatever... his son, he, him... maybe they should have cast a small boy in that role? And if that is a boy, then maybe they should have cast someone that actually looks like a boy. Anyway, that's about as far I was able to make it through this absolute crap-fest.

Solid and cheesy creature feature
After missing out on several communication attempts, a woman and her family head out to a farmhouse owned by their reclusive brother to check on what happened to him, only to discover that an experiment has created several living dinosaurs forcing them to find a way to get away from the house alive.

This was quite a fun genre effort. Among the more enjoyable facets to this one is the intriguing and enjoyable setup that manages to play off quite nicely as for getting the group stranded at the house and into danger. As we're given a glimpse of what he's supposedly doing with his research and experiments at the beginning with keeping them locked up and away from the family requiring the rest of them to head up to check on him for his strange disappearance, everything is in order to keep them at the house long enough for the dinosaurs to emerge. With the revelations of what he's doing and how they came to be, the film generates some intriguing aspects to get it started. Once it gets this setup started, the film gets a lot to like with the dinosaur attacks which is the main point of the film. Focused mainly on the Rex getting some fun ambush sequences where it comes out of the wilderness to snap up victims in a messy fashion, these are rather fun while setting up the smaller-scale sequences of the group interacting with the Raptors more frequently in the house. The chasing featured in those scenes is handled well enough to generate some impressive suspense in the race to get away from the creatures and get to safety which is matched rather nicely with the initial arrival of the military to help save them. This mix of ambush sequences and action-packed stalking allows for a nice mix which is quite enjoyable here. That carries over into the final half where there's an enjoyable mix of action and even more enhancements to the story that ties everything together rather nicely. The dinos going through the commandoes which has some highly impressive attacks with the creatures getting some fun screentime, much like the finale out in the surrounding woods that introduces a few rather unexpected elements into the story. These new additions to the story, which flesh out the side-effects of the experiments and what can potentially happen to the dinosaurs in the future, this section of the film gives this a lot to like that manage to hold the film up for the most part. There isn't a whole lot that holds this one down. One of the biggest drawbacks is the seemingly random inclusion of the small military force that's designed to protect them only to end up being two ill-equipped commandoes, an insane leader, and a useless scientist. Based on the information given at that point in time, there's no reason for that squad to be this small in terms of a rescue mission even if we later learn the true reason for their arrival which is even less logical. On top of that, there are the usually expected limitations with the dinos on such a small budget, ranging from some struggles with integration into the environment properly to proportion problems and repeating movements that highlight how unnatural they really are which is to be expected here but doesn't come off as detrimental overall.

Rated Unrated/R: Graphic Violence and Graphic Language.

Seen better and seen worse
stuart-wise8 January 2023
Hatched was a pretty good British dinosaur flick. It was suspenseful enough and had a decent back story. Maybe the premise is a little farfetched to believe that a single individual was able to accomplish what a myriads of scientists could not. In comparison with the Jurassic Park franchise, this had much more superficial explanation for what transpired. It is curious that these actors were cast since I didn't find the teenagers particularly interesting, and I find it hard to believe that any law enforcement person would have the authority to do what he threatened and eventually carried out. Still, there was quite a bit of suspense and the movie proves you don't need a whole lot of dinosaurs to reign terror in a relative small space.

ktrawick21 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
So totally out there. A guy recreates his dead son and some dinos somewhere on his property. No lab equipment, just... boop. Infant and egg. The dinosaurs are a joke, the bodies so misproportioned and random. Throw in incompetent police(?) and you have Hatched. I gave up half way in, hope someone survived.

"Jurassic Park" on a tight budget...
paul_haakonsen19 July 2021
Well, I will admit that I wasn't really expecting much from the 2021 movie "Hatched" when I sat down to watch it. Sure, I liked the movie's cover/poster, but it definitely had that 'oh, it's going to be one of those horrible CGI movies' feel to it. But still, I opted to watch it.

And I will say that the movie wasn't actually as bad as I had initially feared it to be. Sure, this wasn't by no means a milestone in cinematic history, but it was better than I had anticipated it.

Granted, the storyline told in the movie made little or no sense at all, and there were just so many plot holes throughout the course of the movie. Not to mention the stupidity of the actions performed by the characters in the movie. So yeah, in terms of a proper script and plot, then "Hatched" was a less than mediocre movie.

Visually then I found "Hatched" to actually be a surprise. The movie definitely had much nicer CGI renderings of the dinosaurs than I had thought it would have. But the CGI could only do so much for a movie that lacked a proper script and storyline.

The acting in the movie was a bit of a mixed bag of nuts so to speak. Some of the performers actually put on adequate performances with whatever little they had to work with, while others put on lukewarm or amateurish performances.

Directors Scott Jeffrey and Rebecca Matthews just didn't really manage to come up with an overwhelmingly interesting movie here. It felt like a "Jurassic Park" movie on a very, very tight budget. But hey, at least it wasn't as bad as the dinosaur movies that is churned out by The Asylum.

Ultimately then "Hatched" is a semi-watchable movie, albeit not an overly interesting or entertaining one. I am rating it a less than mediocre four out of ten stars. This is, however, not a movie that I will be returning to watch for a second time, nor is it one that I will run out and encourage people to rush in to watch.

"Someone wanna tell me what's going on here?"
classicsoncall6 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
When's the last time you called '911' and a team of military soldiers and scientists showed up? And then, with a frantic family stranded inside a dinosaur playground, the sergeant in charge (David Castleford) sticks a gun in your face because you want to get the heck out of there? I think I found that even more bizarre than the idea of Simon David (Thomas Loone) turning his property into the site of a mini-Jurassic Park. Here's another one - how did Luna (Nicole Nabi) get lost in the woods looking for the jeeps that she and the soldiers arrived in? Wouldn't they have parked right outside the house where they answered the call? This is just one mess right after the other, and I don't even want to get started on the boy Mark (Marshall Hawkes) who looks like a girl and everyone else is oblivious to it. And here's the topper - after Caitlyn (Megan Purvis) runs off with one of the dinosaur eggs and the movie grinds it's way to an ending, the film fades on the three eggs as if the missing one was put back. Think there will be a sequel?

Dinos attack
BandSAboutMovies8 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
You know, if you're going to bring dinosaurs back to life, make sure they don't eat you and your wife. That's the lesson that I learned from Hatched, which begins with Simon David (Thomas Loone, Clownface) hatching some giant retro beasts just in time for them to turn him and his partner Christine (Amanda-Jade Tyler) into a quick snack.

However, before all that dino dining, Simon also learned how to bring his son back from the dead. Again, I think we all know by now just how bad of an idea playing God is.

Scott Jeffrey wrote The Candy Witch and also directed HellKat, ClownDoll, Bad Nun: Deadly Vows and plenty more lower-budget horror films. He made this with Rebecca Matthews, who he also made Cam Girls and Cannibal Troll with; she directed The Candy Witch, Pet Graveyard and Witches of Amityville. Jeffrey also produced Dinosaur Hotel, another low budget dinosaur movie about an underground game show that has dinosaurs hunt people for the pleasure of the elite.

It takes a lot of guts to make a dinosaur movie with limited funds. Luckily, this movie has some exciting scenes and plenty of soldiers battling scaly beasts, which is really what I'm usually looking for.

So so..Entertaining enough...
stuart-james5 April 2022
But my god!!!.....The characters were frustrating, just did so many things that made you think...Really?

Like waiting for a long period of time as the dinosaurs got closer and closer so they can eat them. Not doing obvious things like closing doors behind them when being chased by raptors in the house. And nearly EVERY time someone broke into a run they tripped over.

Some of the overreacting was hilarious.

The dinosaurs themselves were convincing enough.

The TRex is well done, the acting good, but...
jwinps-561-92420616 June 2022
It is so awfully, painfully slow. You can easily doze off between lines of dialog. OK, not that slow, but you get the picture. It is very rare that I don't watch a film to its end. But this is one of those rare films. I had to turn it off and see something with more suspense/action. A photo shoot of someone chewing gum would be more gripping than this film.

Overall, it's not bad. In detail, there are many holes in the story. Therefore, I recommend watching movies with a light heart. I hope it's a movie that can be seen lightly for those who are tired of many things to think about.

Jurassic World on a Budget
turnbull5013 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
It's an OK film to keep dinosaur lovers happy. The CGI Dinosaurs are well done. The acting is fine all in all a decent film. The soldiers are quite nasty but they mostly get picked off one by one. The T-Rex swallowing the soldiers is quite fun. If you like dinosaurs you will like this. It borrows a lot from Jurassic World. As the child in the story was created in a lab like a clone. It ends (suddenly) on a similar note to the second Jurassic World movie as they are free in the wild and breeding at the end.

Actually, it turned out better than I expected. I liked it very much and it was very enjoyable.

A return to form for the dormant DNA tampering franchise, what Jurassic World lacks in plot, character development and plausibility, it makes up for in rapid pacing, salient visual effects and nonstop thrills.
