Another Game of Thrones Prequel Nears With Lead Director Attached - Main Image
After House of the Dragon, another Game of Thrones spinoff is progressing. Owen Harris of Black Mirror fame has been announced as the lead director of the first season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
Some of Harris’s directorial credits include acclaimed episodes of the anthology series Be Right Back, San Junipero, and Striking Vipers. He also helmed the first episode of Jordan Peele’s revival of The Twilight Zone and made his big screen debut in Kill Your Friends (2015) starring Nicholas Hoult.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is based on George R.R. Martin’s novella The Hedge Knight, about the improbable partnership of Ser Duncan the Tall or Dunk, described as a young, naive, yet courageous knight, and his squire Egg. The story will be set a century before the events of Game of Thrones...

It would not be incorrect to say that George R.R. Martin’s criticisms of Game of Thrones gave rise to the ‘dragons’ in House of the Dragon.
When David Benioff & D. B. Weiss’ Game of Thrones first hit our screens, one of the most awe-inspiring elements was undoubtedly the dragons. These mythical creatures may have won the hearts and imaginations of many fans as we watched Daenerys Targaryen raise them from tiny hatchlings to massive, fire-breathing beasts.
However, it appears that Martin, the mastermind behind the A Song of Ice and Fire book series, regrets these things the most.
George R.R. Martin (Image: Gage Skidmore/Wikimedia Commons)
He had some valid reservations about the dragons’ portrayal in the original show, which he believed improved in the prequel series, House of the Dragon. According to Martin, Game of Thrones’ dragons lacked “personality” and were all too similar to one another.

A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms has found one of its directors.
Owen Harris, who has directed episodes of Black Mirror including the San Junipero episode, will helm three of the episodes for the Game of Thrones spinoff.
It comes as HBO revealed that the adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s The Hedge Knight novella will feature six episodes. This is fewer than the first seasons of Game of Thrones or House of the Dragon.
A century before the events of Game of Thrones, two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros… a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.

Some breaking news from Westeros: The Game of Thrones prequel series A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has added a major talent from Black Mirror to serve as its debut season’s lead director, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Owen Harris has boarded the HBO drama as an executive producer and will also direct the first three episodes, establishing the directorial vision for the series. Harris is best known for helming two of Black Mirror‘s finest episodes — “Be Right Back” and the widely acclaimed “San Junipero.”
In addition, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms‘ episode count has now been revealed: The first season will be six episodes, making for a tighter opener than the 10-episode first seasons of Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon. The run time seems appropriate given Knight is an adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s 160-page novella The Hedge Knight rather than one of his 900-page epic novels.

Renowned fantasy author George R.R. Martin stands by his principle on the importance of writing ‘gratuitous’ food scenes in his Game of Thrones book series. He has received several comments about the abundance of his narratives when it comes to writing about food, and many think his novels would have been a lot less thicker had he spared them the long descriptions.

But for the writer, it is very essential that he puts a premium on these types of scenes. Martin believes the journey matters more than the destination, so he wants the readers to see, feel, and even taste his words when they read them.

Although Kit Harington attracted all eyes on him with his prolific performance since the beginning of Game of Thrones, people can’t forget one House Stark character who set the tone for the show’s notorious unpredictability. It’s none other than the actor behind the role of Eddard “Ned” Stark, Sean Bean, who left quite an impression on the series and its fans.

Game of Thrones fans obsessively watched the series to see who would end up on the Iron Throne. The conclusion to years of scheming and fighting was a controversial one to say the least.
However, we’re got a different question about the series to answer: Which star from the cast is the wealthiest with the highest estimated net worth?
HBO’s fantasy series is the sort of industry dominating, pop culture titan that comes around every so often and totally changes the game. And while the characters battled it out on the screen, the show made its stars rich in real life.
The show brought the world of Westeros to life straight from the pages of George R.R. Martin‘s A Song of Ice and Fire novels and became a breakaway hit that fans are still talking about many years after the grand finale.

More than three years after Game of Thrones came to a divisive end, HBO returned to the land of Westeros with House of the Dragon, a Targaryen-centric prequel series that debuted on August 21, 2022. Fans weren’t meant to wait this long for a Game of Thrones spinoff — or “successor show,” as author George R. R. Martin prefers to call it — but HBO didn’t have the easiest time turning its smash hit into a franchise. Case in point: The pilot for another prequel series, the Naomi Watts-led project detailed below, cost $30 million to film, according to the James Andrew Miller book Tinderbox: HBO’s Ruthless Pursuit of New Frontiers (via Entertainment Weekly). The next spinoff in development was a Jon Snow sequel series that would see Kit Harington return to his most famous role. Harington himself has said it’s been shelved, but that’s not the only tale of Westeros in development.

Olivia Cooke, Jamie Bell to Lead Italy-Set Romance ‘Takes One To Know One’ from ‘Pam & Tommy’ Writer
“Sound of Metal” star Olivia Cooke, soon to be returning to “House of the Dragon” for its second season, and BAFTA winner Jamie Bell, recently seen in “All of Us Strangers,” are set to star in “Takes One to Know One.” The film is billed as an “unconventional and contemporary take on romance.”
The feature comes from Italian director Nathalie Biancheri, working from a 2022 Black List screenplay by WGA-nominated writer Brooke Baker. Production is due to commence in Italy later this year, with Cornerstone handling international sales and distribution and and launching sales at Cannes and co-repping the U.S. with CAA Media Finance.
“Takes One to Know One” follows Eleanor (Cooke) and Lucas (Bell). When the two meet in Rome, their chemistry is electric. With a shared passion for art, Italy and each other, it looks like the start of something life-changing. The biggest stumbling block: they are both in relationships with other people.

George R. R. Martin’s commitment to Game of Thrones and his eventual exit from the show felt somewhat like a betrayal to the audience of the critically acclaimed HBO series. But for Martin himself, one particular betrayal from the series’ creators felt like severing a limb from his body.
Game of Thrones [Credit: Home Box Office Inc.]The commitment that the author and the audience generously devoted to the HBO show was paid tenfold in kind for the first 6 seasons and could have progressed in the same manner, if not for one disastrous decision. Months before Game of Thrones branched off into a spin-off series, the author reflected on what made the ending so inconclusive and unsatisfactory.

Netflix has debuted the trailer for the series based on the best-selling book series By Holly Smale, ‘Geek Girl’.
The show tells the story of awkward teenager Harriet Manners whose life is turned upside down when she is spotted to be a model and embarks on a life-affirming journey of self-discovery as she balances high school and high fashion.
The coming-of-age series follows sixteen-year-old Harriet Manners, who has spent her life trying to be invisible, to blend in seamlessly, but there’s no denying, she’s a geek. Her whole world changes after she catches the eye of a modelling agent while on a school trip to London Fashion Week. Tightly wound agents, reclusive designers, impossibly high heels, and a handsome young supermodel with a great smile — socially awkward Harriet has no idea what she’s in for.

What do we want from a spinoff? More time with a favorite supporting character, as with Frasier or Better Call Saul? An expansion of a compelling mythos, as with Star Trek: Deep Space Nine or House of the Dragon? Or perhaps a deeper exploration of some potent themes, as with Rugrats offshoot All Grown Up?
Buffy the Vampire Slayer spinoff Angel fulfilled all of those criteria and more.
Premiering in 1999, with its first four seasons running concurrently with Buffy, Angel’s eponymous hero was a reformed vampire, the ex-lover of his parent show’s titular Slayer. The spinoff imported several other characters from Buffy, transplanting them from the small town milieu of Sunnydale to the sinister sprawl of Los Angeles, a darker, more complex setting where demons and vampires rubbed shoulders with high powered lawyers and politicians. It occupied an interesting position in the cultural landscape, airing alongside shows like...

House of the Dragon, the Game of Thrones prequel series that debuted on HBO and Max in 2022 and is returning soon, focuses on House Targaryen, generations before the events of the original Game of Thrones series.
They are, of course, the ancestors of Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke), one of the main characters on Game of Thrones, whose series-long plot was about wanting to recapture her family's throne.
While House of the Dragon focuses on that particular family, we did get occasional glimpses of other familiar houses in the first season of that show, including the Baratheons. Also, there are fleeting mentions of Houses such as Arryn and Stark.
While the members of House Stark were among the most important characters throughout Game of Thrones, none of the Starks were major characters In the first season of House of the Dragon.
However, it appears that it is about to change.

Hajime Isayama’s Attack on Titan is a dark fantasy anime, and the dark part of the series is reflected by the indefinite gory moments and scenes that have been included in the storyline since the beginning. Attack on Titan is famous for its gruesome scenes, and despite being a shonen manga, fans love the brutality of it.
Eren Yeager in Attack on Titan
Isayama’s love for dark and violent genres is perfectly visible in his creations. He even loves other series that are based on such themes. He has confessed to his love for Game of Thrones multiple times, and recently, he was asked for his professional opinion on the prequel of the series, House of the Dragon.

Does your Apple TV+ membership come and go with new seasons of “Ted Lasso”? [Jeff Foxworthy Voice:] Then you might be a “Show-Chaser.”
Serial churners are so 2023 — 2024 is the year of the show-chaser, according to research firm Antenna. These folks currently may be out hunting baby reindeer. In its first four days of availability, “Baby Reindeer” was viewed 2.6 million times, according to Netflix. The following week, its first full one, the limited series from (and starring) Richard Gadd exploded to 13.3 million views — more than a five-fold increase. That tally nearly doubled the next week to 22 million views.
“Baby Reindeer” is a sensation fueled by word of mouth — and by word on TikTok — the type that could singlehandedly bring Netflix some new subscribers. But these hypothetical members are not very likely to stick around; they’re show-chasers, an (at least) semi-undesirable subset of serial churners.

Despite the widely despised series finale of "Game of Thrones" -- which, for the record, we at /Film didn't hate nearly as much as the rest of the world seemed to at the time -- the show was an immense cultural juggernaut for HBO, and in the risk-averse television landscape, it's only natural that other channels and streamers saw that show's success and wanted to replicate it for themselves. Prime Video spend ungodly amounts of money on the rights to a TV show set in "The Lord of the Rings" universe, Netflix dumped a bunch of money into the forgotten "Marco Polo," and even History got into the mix with "Vikings."
FX, meanwhile, decided to greenlight "Shogun," a tremendously expensive-looking adaptation of James Clavell's 1975 novel (which was previously adapted into an ultra-popular miniseries in the '80s). After enduring production delays due to the pandemic and finally premiering this February,...

George R. R. Martin’s incredible vision and spectacular scale in Game of Thrones was one that was coveted by many but treasured by few. Those few were allowed to extend their arms in order to reach for their dreams after HBO offered them immortality through an opportunity to star in the series. But it was one among the select few who was born with the greatest luck of them all.

Few shows have managed to achieve what Game of Thrones has. Over the years that it was on air, the show built itself a loyal fanbase who felt every emotion the characters felt. Game of Thrones established itself as a cultural phenomenon and gained followers throughout the globe. Not even the countless heartbreaking deaths in the show could turn its audience away.
Game of Thrones (2011-2019)One of the many things that Game of Thrones is known for, whether it’s the TV or the books, is its gruesome and hard-to-watch scenes. One scene that was a bit too much for the audience in particular was the one involving Ramsay Bolton and Sansa Stark on their wedding night in season five. We just unlocked horrible memories, didn’t we? Well, while the scene should have been difficult to film for Sophie Turner, the actress revealed that she actually enjoyed it.

Game of Thrones s*x scenes were always considered problematic, especially since several actors had opened up about the demeaning nature of them. However, the show crossed all lines with one particularly disgusting scene in Season 5 Episode 6. Sophie Turner’s Sansa Stark is subjected to brutal r*pe by her new husband, the sadistic Ramsay Bolton, in this episode. The scene was not only unwatchable but also problematic on multiple levels, prompting a fan outcry.
One Game of Thrones scene involving Sophie Turner’s Sansa Stark received widespread criticism from fans
The infamous ‘Black Wedding’ episode was not a part of George R.R. Martin’s original books. Sansa Stark had already been through enough trauma in the series and another torture/r*pe scene did not add anything to her character arc.

The finale of Game of Thrones aired almost five years ago, and since then HBO has been developing a multitude of spin-offs, prequels, and sequels to fill the void.
So far the only one to come to fruition has been House of the Dragon, which had the difficult job of drawing us back to Westeros after the disappointing end of GoT left most fans uninterested. Many doubted that the show could do the job, but they were quickly proven wrong – viewership for House of the Dragon started high and got higher as news got out about its quality. The first season holds a 93% on Rotten Tomatoes (Season 8 of the original series has 55%.)
But not all ideas are going to make it, and recent details about the Queen Nymeria project 10,000 Ships prove HBO might have been right to axe it.

George R. R. Martin is best known for writing the “A Song of Ice and Fire” series of books. This series then went on to inspire the popular Game of Thrones HBO series. His fans would also know that he worked with game director Hidetaka Miyazaki on FromSoftware’s Elden Ring. This game too became a sensation, just like his previous work did.
This successful game really put FromSoftware way up in the list of game studios that can hardly do anything wrong. HBO has officially canceled its Jon Snow sequel project. Good news for fans of the Stark bastard? No. Good news for Game of Thrones fans? Yes.
Hear us out.
It Would Have Been A Hit
It's pretty much guaranteed that viewers would have tuned in to a Jon Snow sequel. Because the show would have taken place directly after the events of GoT season 8, it had all of the fan-bait that usually draws viewers: the comfort of well-known characters, the promise of cameos from old favorites, and a backstory we're all familiar with.

But after two years of development,...

When Elden Ring was released back in 2022, one thing was sure; it brought along the potential to expand faithfully on the ranks of the Dark Souls. Besides, one of the biggest USPs of the game was that it brought together the worldbuilding talents of the acclaimed fantasy author George R.R. Martin and the extraordinary vision of game director Hidetaka Miyazaki.

Novelist George R.R. Martin is best known for his series of epic fantasy novels A Song of Ice and Fire. These were later adapted into House of the Dragon and Game of Thrones TV shows which were highly acclaimed. Game of Thrones is an Emmy Award-winning HBO series.

The world of Game of Thrones has always been an eventful one, irrespective of the fate that befalls the characters and the gruesome incidents that traumatize the viewers. But even for the audience who comes from a background of having read A Song of Ice and Fire, the HBO series could get a little daunting due to the nature of its transgressions from the original text.

Years later, the author, who noticed one such transgression, himself let his wrath be known for a line that was crossed by the actions of his own characters. In one radical change instituted by the creators of the HBO show, an incident that was fairly harmless in the books was transformed into a horrific plot device.

In recent years, we've seen more and more news of book-to-film adaptations getting TV remakes. Examples include His Dark Materials, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Interview with the Vampire, Reacher, as well as upcoming high-octane adaptations like Twilight and, of course, Harry Potter.
Some of us see this pop culture phenomenon as a miserable exploitation of once-popular franchises, while others are thrilled by the success of the aforementioned reboots. But what few can argue with is the fact that in 2024, technological capabilities have improved and the series can accommodate much more detail than the movie.
That's why the upcoming Harry Potter show could be a great opportunity for a long-awaited depiction of one of the best moments in the book that was barely touched on in the movie.
New Harry Potter Show Already in the Works
In April 2023, Warner Bros. officially announced that J.K. Rowling's fantasy novels would officially get a new live-action adaptation.
