Education for a new generations
bkindanice-2011626 October 2020
A mix of old style educational videos but for a new generation. This is meant for people of the younger RAINBOW Community. It helps with translating the new terms and words for a younger people that wouldn't understand otherwise. If you can have an open mind and spread the word what matters is the information. We have older videos and newer video. There are a few times where is odd when the character actors speak to the audience. But that is only a little jarring but not frequent.

Fascinating & Necessary LGBTQ History Lesson

Loved every minute of every episode. I was surprised how much history I did not know about the movement. Thanks for the enlightening journey HBO told through the lens of some amazing storytellers.

Poignant, edgy, and heartfelt
vivarobes1 November 2020
First and foremost, Equal is a poignant, edgy, and heartfelt series that fits nicely in the canon of excellent queer / civil rights docs like Celluloid Closet, Visible, Disclosure, etc. The editing, the archive, music choices and overall vibe feels contemporary and fresh and truly makes GREAT the hard task of telling stories that happened (I'm guessing) in a period without many photos, videos, etc. I think the lesser known stories (Jack Starr, Lucy Hicks, Jose Sarria) were passionately told and will inform people in years to come like they informed me. Oh, and I loved the pre Stonewall New York stuff -- truly a time capsule that I savored.

The cast is stellar and Billy Porter is a treasure.
