Hollywood — the world where stars are born or made has also been called out for having so many vices and for encouraging stereotypes. And the Netflix hit show Stranger Things is no different. The show has faced heavy criticism in the past for its lack of diversity and now for typecasting. In fact, Stranger Things star Shannon Purser called out the show and the industry at large, saying that “fat actors” are not allowed upward mobility.

Billy Porter is preparing to portray the author and civil rights activist James Baldwin in an upcoming biopic.
He will also co-write the untitled movie with Dan McCabe, which will be adapted from the 1994 book “James Baldwin: A Biography” by David Leeming. An emeritus professor of English at the University of Connecticut, Leeming was well-versed in the world of Baldwin as his friend of 25 years as well as his assistant.
Porter says it has been a career-long dream to tell the story of Baldwin on film. Born in Harlem in 1924, Baldwin was a Black gay writer whose influential works include “Go Tell It on the Mountain,” “Notes of a Native Son” and “If Beale Street Could Talk.” In addition to writing, Baldwin fought for racial justice in the U.S. civil rights movement. Republican South Carolina senator Lindsey Graham had a lot to say on how the United States, specifically President Joe Biden, should respond after a Russian jet collided with a U.S. drone over the Black Sea.
“We should hold them accountable, and say that if you ever get near another U.S. jet flying in international waters, your airplane will be shot down,” Graham said while visiting Fox News’ “Hannity” on Tuesday. “What would Ronald Reagan do right now? He would start shooting Russian planes down if they were threatening our assets. American foreign policy is in free fall.”
Graham continued, claiming that BIden’s weakness simply prompts more international aggression, particularly from Russia.

The Oscars Best Documentary Feature race, which set a new record for entries in December when it passed the previous record of 170, has now left all previous years in the dust with 240 eligible films.
An additional 25 documentary features were placed in the members-only online screening room devoted to the category on Saturday, in what the Academy told voters would be “the final batch” of this year’s entries. It was the last of seven groups of documentaries that qualified and were placed into the screening room: 25 in July, 12 in August, 16 in September, 33 in October, 36 in November, a huge group of 93 in December and now 25 in January.

How so, you ask? Not only is the cast stellar—it also stars Samira Wiley, Anthony Rapp and Shannon Purser among others—but the series offers an important and inspiring reminder: New York City's 1969...

Becoming a producer Sarah Schechter love baseball again. Today the powerhouse behind a record-breaking 17 current television series, Schechter found her way in the business making movies.
“When I first started working in film, what became so nice about watching sports was you didn’t know what was going to happen,” she says. “When you’re reading so many scripts, you start to feel like you know what’s going to happen in each one. Then you work on projects where you read the script over and over again, and you don’t have surprises. So I kind of fell back in love with baseball, particularly, because it was like, “Oh, I don’t know what’s gonna happen here. There’s no script to read. You’re going to have to wait till the end.’”

The story of LGBTQ progress since World War II is often dominated by doctors and lawyers. That’s not without reason: The removal of so-called “sexual and gender identity disorders” from the Dsm was an important milestone achieved after decades of activism, while the legal battles for the rights and protections for queer people of all stripes are, despite the establishment of marriage equality in 2015, still ongoing.
The new HBO Max docuseries Equal, narrated with cheeky brio by Billy Porter, seeks to convey to the under-40 generations how much of queer history pre-Stonewall was made in the underground — and how much ...

Scout Productions is extending its unscripted programming slate with the launch of a new documentary division.
Joel Chiodi, Scout Productions’ senior vice president of strategic development, will oversee day to day development and production of the division. He will report to Scout’s chief creative officer, Rob Eric.
Scout has already set two documentary projects under the new division. The first is “Equal” at HBO Max, a four-part docuseries chronicling the fight for LGBTQ rights pre-Stonewall. The other is “Get Real” at Quibi, a series that examines the 30-year history of reality television.

Feminist icon Gloria Steinem is played by not one, not two, but four different actresses in Julie Taymor’s upcoming film “The Glorias.”
In a first-look that debuted on Thursday, the nontraditional biopic features Julianne Moore, Alicia Vikander, Lulu Wilson and Ryan Kiera Armstrong all portraying Steinem at different stages of her life.
Based on Steinem’s autobiography “My Life on the Road,” the film explores the many different hats the feminist wore: world traveler, journalist and fighter for women’s rights. Beginning during Steinem’s time in India as a young woman, “The Glorias” takes viewers through Steinem’s founding of Ms. magazine and her role in the women’s rights movement of the 1960s and ’70s.
Beyond Steinem, the movie also spotlights other important figures in the fight for the Equal Rights Amendment, including Dorothy Pitman Hughes (Janelle Monáe), Bella Abzug (Bette Midler), Flo Kennedy (Lorraine Toussaint), Dolores Huerta...
