Rehearsals for resurrection
ulicknormanowen6 April 2024
I've already said I thought the former screenwriters missed the point as far as Madge is concerned: Paul Gégauff made her Tom 's lover in "plein soleil "; and Minghella turned her towards the ending in some kind of young detective who had discovered Tom 's ominous plan .

Although Tom 's hatred for that "silly goose " was somewhat sweetened , you may remember his disgust and his boredom when he corrected the so -called writer's gibberish ;that his book was finally published is entirely due to her short-lived rise to fame as an actor of the Greenleaf affair ;the letter in which Madge tells Dickie that she knows he prefers his boyfriend appears earlier in the novel, but you should hear Tom laugh out loud when he reads those "melodramatic" sentences .

This episode is slow-moving and prepares the future Tom 's comeback to his true identity ; all the actors, from the concierge to tycoon Greenleaf must be aware that Dickie is suicidal and eaten with remorse ....Macabre entertainment indeed .

I love Lucio
dierregi12 April 2024
Lucio the cat is my favorite character, mysterious yet consistent. Ripley is described as "elusive" but he seems to be merely stumbling around during his Italian travelogue, always leaving an address so as to be easily found by Marge and the police. How "elusive" is that?

Being Italian I found Naples, Rome, and Palermo to look exactly the same, cobbled shady side streets, crumbling buildings, rotting staircases. Only Venice looks like Venice at last. The photography is gorgeous at times, I agree about that

However, I have doubts about the investigation. Inspector Ravini is supposed to look for a missing Tom Ripley and he doesn't even bother to check what this mystery man should look like. No article in the newspapers asking "Have you seen this man"? Also, his "interrogation" with Marge was way too hostile, just to suit the purpose of the narrative.

Maybe the point was to prove how stupid and misogynist Italians are, which I should resent but I don't, because the Italian cast is saved by the magnificent Lucio.

Who is Tom Ripley ?
Kirpianuscus30 April 2024
It seems, after the photos of Richard on Madge table the only question. Like the blood in bathtube in previous episode. No pictures in newspapers, no curiosity of inspector.

Only a chain of runs, hotel rooms, menace and cops , Andrew Scott proposing the best Tom Ripley and a game of director with viewer who, presumed, knows so very well the book than he can be indulgent about rhytm, pieces in different order and an episod prepairing the suicide.

But, sure, the beautiful performance of Andrew Scott, in my case, it is the only significant detail. And the nice try to use Italy as character.

In short, prepaires for the last episode.
