The final episode "sort of " wraps things up for all the previous episodes we have watched. Scott we now know is in hell or a kind of purgatory for killing his Dad. Now bear in mind 1) his dad deserved it for killing another child and 2) he asked for it literally in a note that he wanted to die which probably connects with 1). Of course why didn't they show the Dad ( Michael Pitt) in hell? That would have been interesting. Scott walks into the eternal water with Lisey looking on , emotional naturally. The Dane dehaan character gets his just desserts as well and a local cop is cleverly suspicious of Lisey.
It's the most satisfactory episode of an uneven television series which asks the question what is Scott's destination as he walks into the water ? Has he been "promoted " to heaven ? Is he going into another eternal purgatory? Or is he descending into "proper " hell?!? That of course is open to interpretation from the viewer.
