In Painter's art exhibit, he displayed Smurf versions of famous Western paintings he produced. Here are the names of these paintings and the artists who produced them:
- "Arrangement in Grey and Black: Portrait of the Painter's Mother" by James Abbott McNeill
- "The Blue Boy" by Thomas Gainsborough
- "Portrait of King Henry VIII" by an unknown follower of German Hans Holbein the Younger
- "Mona Lisa" by Leonardo Di Vinci
"Painter and Poet" is the animated debut of Painter, one of a number of Smurfs who originally appeared in the comics before the 1981 debut of the cartoon series. Unlike the pre-1981 comics where he is un-named (he is the Smurf who appears making paintings), the cartoon series is the first time he is identified by name. He will eventually be identified by name in the latter comics.
