Can't say it's good, but I kinda enjoyed it
FeastMode25 March 2023
After watching Into the Deep, I'm a little shocked that I'm not trashing this movie hard. It doesn't seem like it's for me. It has a very high-school-y vibe, like a romance drama for teen girls. It sometimes feels like a B-movie. And to top it off, it starts really slow and takes a while before anything actually happens.

And yet... I found myself enjoying it. I can't explain it. Maybe it's the good musical score that kept me intrigued. Maybe I just fell in love with the lead actress 3 seconds into her screentime. Or maybe it's actually decent.

I might've given this a slightly positive score, but I was turned off by a few character decisions and some really dumb moments later in the movie. Still, this is so much more entertaining than a lot of the boring and useless garbage I watch. (1 viewing, 3/24/2023)

Bad character decisions ruin it
zack_gideon1 August 2022
Too many bad decisions and inane activity that really doesn't make sense. It needed a more coherent plot and better dialogue. I don't know. Just another bla movie. The acting isn't bad. And the lead is really nice looking in a bikini. That's about it.

I disagree
jayg_582 August 2022
Two girls and a guy out on a 'disabled' sailing yacht. Someone is mentally unstable, but who? Ok, they had a budget and it would never win any awards, but not everyone can live in a Marvel universe. I've seen so many 4 rated movies, this one should be a 6, but it falls just a hair short. I think the protagonists do an acceptable job with their characters (and yes, the guy looks a lot like his sister). I stuck with it because I did get vested enough to want to know who the sociopath was. Colorful filming, pretty people, a little nudity, sadly no sharks, but a little blood, and a Disney ending (too bad). Quite watchable.

I can't smile without you

Warning: Spoilers
As a child Jessica (Ella-Rae Smith) survives drowning in a car accident. Her mother does not. Eleven years later Dad wants to move one and not do the annual memorial celebration of life. At work, Jess meets Ben (Matthew Daddario) a good looking man with a solid build. She invites him to a beach party which he reluctantly accepts. They end up on his boat and then he takes her to an isolated shore. On their way back, a jet ski boat bumps into them and they rescue the girl Lexi (Jessica Alexander) on board who has lost her way. Lexi causes a disruption to the magical get-away as there becomes a three-way struggle that escalates.

Not many characters and most of the action takes place on a boat afloat. Pretty girls in bikinis, but not people I could get into. Subtitles in English, Spanish, and French.

Guide: F-word, sex, nudity (Ella-Rae Smith)

Pretty blah
brunett-9898816 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Jess was the most annoying character in this movie, she was daring enough to approach a stranger, invite him to party and get on his boat. But then looked nervous and scared, sleepishly looking away, and then flipping back to making Google eyes at him and kissing him. The character was a mess and far too trusting which is infuriating. The plot line was pretty predictable, I watched until the end as it had just enough to want me to see what happened, I did hope for a bigger plot or even background info, but no however the main male character was good looking kind of a let down he was a creep, but I still rate 4 because it's a good lesson to young girls, don't trust strangers just because they are attractive! It is not the worst but definitely not the best I've scene.

A load of SHIP

If you want to watch a low budget movie with characters you don't care about and a plot that is predictable... then this one is for you. If you want to watch a better "trapped on a boat" movie, watch Dead Calm or even Harpoon.

Entertaining thriller
johannes2000-113 January 2023
It isn't the best movie ever, but it's entertaining enough, and considering the limited setting and cast (all movie long we are on the same boat with the same three people) it's quite an achievement that they made it thrilling until the very end. I especially liked it, that up until the last say 20 minutes you keep guessing who speaks the truth and who is the villain. Ella-Rae Smith plays her bewilderment and deadly fear very well, Matthew Daddario as handsome and charming Ben makes it totally believable that young Jess falls for him, and Jessica Alexander is equally convincing as the relentless vengeful Lexie.

I do have a few minor reservations. The sad personal history of Jess keeps popping up, but doesn't add anything to the story. And the last scene somehow gave the impression that the makers considered someone as a hero and worth to be saved, who in my opinion was, in spite of understandable motives, disproportionally violent, even murderous. A bit of a questionable moral, I would say. But for the rest: a nice and entertaining thriller.

STUPID!!!!
msvicki122412 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I wish I could rate this crap a negative 0 because it's just that crappy and dumb!!!! What intelligent woman would go on a boat with a man and get drugged by him and doesn't know that she was drugged the next morning??? How stupid could that woman be to not know she's been drugged and on top of that she wakes up in the middle of the nowhere!!! Lol She then apologizes to the guy as if it was her fault for being upset for taking her out on a boat without asking!!!! Then she has unprotected sex with the guy the next day not knowing if he could be filling her up with an std that could be life changing!!!! On top of that there's evidence shown to her from the other chick that the guy has been doing that sort of thing before but her stupid self chooses not to believe it until she sees a picture of the girl on the boat. Lol This movie just was laughably stupid!!!! Terrible acting if that's what you want to call it!!! Lol.

Warning: Spoilers
I saw Into the Deep, starring Ella_Rae Smith-Fast & Furious Presents:Hobbs & Shaw, Into the Badlands_tv; Matthew Daddario-Shadowhunters_tv, Cabin Fever and yes, he is Alexanders' brother and Jessica Alexander-A Banquet, Glasshouse.

This is a low budget but entertaining movie about the dangers of trusting someone before you really get to know them. Ella_Rae plays a young girl that lost her mother in a drowning accident. Her father has moved on-he is dating-but Ella_Rae still has nightmares about the incident. She meets Matthew at a beach party and they hit it off. Matthew invites her to his boat and after a wild night of drinking and partying, they go for a ride on his boat. While Matthew and Ella_Rae are relaxing a bit, Jessica literally bumps into them on a jet ski-she is unconscious. After Matthew and Ella_Rae bring her on board, things get interesting. It soon seems that someone is lying about themselves and their motives, or in other words, who do you trust and who is a sociopath?

It's rated R for violence, drug use, language and sexual content-including nudity-and has a running time of 1 hour & 27 minutes.

It's not one that I would buy on DVD but it would be alright as a rental.

Absolute rubbish
lvboughton3 September 2022
Awful in every way.. unsure why I continued to watch until the end.. I think I was just hoping something would make it worth the time I'd already wasted.

The acting was horrific, I felt like I was watching a high school drama in stage rather than a sky film!

The story line was pointless and not believable.. for example, why would you decide your going to jet ski out to a boat to take revenge when it was literally docked up the day before? Surely it would have been much easier to do that when attached to land... Also why tell the girl to get the flare when evidence was in the flare bag..? It literally makes zero sense.

Truely not even sure why I'm wasting my time writing a review about such an awful film too, but I think I just want to save people wasting their time!!

A sexy, gripping, tense ride
dpace-439182 August 2022
A tight, well-acted thriller. The foreboding tension started early and built towards an action packed ending. It nicely focused on 3 characters who's motives remained unknown until the end. The scenery was gorgeous, the boat was claustrophobic and the ocean itself added to the ominous tone. Matthew Daddario is excellent as an alluring but suspicious stranger.

Barely floating
kosmasp16 April 2023
No pun intended - if you like thriller movies, that have a bit of spice added to them .. well you may be able to suspend your disbelief and just go with the flow (of the ocean) ... so never mind the flaws. Never mind the gullible nature of our main character ... or is there more to it? You may wonder about that considering how trusting she is ... for no reason at all.

That all said, the movie works when the suspense is at its height ... well only with the already mentioned suspension. The actors try their best - and they are fine to look at anyway. If that helps in any way - because you have to be able to be forgiving when it comes to their decision making ... in the end, this is empowering .. even if more than a bit flawed ...

A short review for a forgettable movie
aronharde12 December 2023
Into the Deep features a young girl that unwillingly goes on a boat ride with a guy that she doesn't even know. However she does not want to go to shore and stay with him for a romantic little trip. After some time they find an unconscious young woman on a jet ski and shortly after the trouble begins.

The movie has lots of plot holes and just unrealistic behavior and you have no one to really root for since all of the characters are not that likeable. However there are some tense scenes and the overall acting was fine.

Another thing that the movie made good, was that it kept you guessing on whose side to be on. Other than that it was pretty average and forgettable. [5,1/10]

UK Drama
gab-675993 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This movie was not bad, I have seen this story before so other than the nuditidy, nothing new happening here. It had very well (Not great) actors and you never really knew who to trust. But the ending killed it for me, she leaves the girl on the boat to die, not even check a pulse before the getting off the boat. Then she acts all concerned and comes back to the boat screaming her name!? It is lame and I am sure a lot of eye rolled in that one moment. I have no idea who Sky is, is that like Tubi? Everyone trying to be like Netflix it is hard to keep up. So overall, a SLOW drama/thriller, with thankfully a few nude scenes. Forgettable cast, except for the nude scenes that is. I don't feel like my time was totally wasted, but at the same time this movie will not be on any top favorites of mine. As always be your own judge!

Lazy plot. Could've been written better, I just wasted my time watching this movie. Wouldn't recommend anyone to watch this. It had potential to be a decent movie, personally I don't think there should've been the presence of a second girl to 'come and rescue'

I Enjoyed It, But Understand The Other Reviewers
Mehki_Girl14 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
As a woman and an older one at that, I was especially annoyed by the fact we needed to see her boobs in the shower. They are nice boobs. But, really? Why?

The other thing that annoyed me, but unfortunately, way too true to life was Jesse's naivete and trusting nature.

Are young woman still getting drunk with men and expecting nothing bad will happen? It shouldn't but it does do, don't do that!

Why on earth would you get on a boat with some stranger alone, not tell your best friend or text your dad, or, much better, not get on at all. Tell him to bring back the booze. You'll wait.

Then you drink and trust him to make you the drink and don't think, I don't know this guy and he could be a serial killer/rapist who could assault me right now and no one would know or drug me, rape, stable me, and toss me overboard.

My momma taught me to think like that! So it's a, no, for me!

Like, are you that stupid? Don't you read the news? Social media?

Then, of course he drugs her or maybe, still stupidly, drank too much and passed out and waked up un the middle of nowhere and then apologizies like it's her fault.

Women, we really have to stop being so f* polite, afraid to hurry men's feelings!

Then proceeds to sleep with him with zero protection, not knowing what disease this dude has.

Anyway, we're later joined by another girl and at first I thought she was flirting with our naive young lady or just kinda loose. I mean, you want a drink after getting knocked out?

I thought this was going to go the way of two women fighting over a man, but it does take a turn - in another direction. At first you're guessing and then it become pretty clear that two someone's are willing to go that extra step to protect themselves and do away with inconveniences.

Even though, I spent some time talking to the TV, as in, well you're a dummy, like a lamb to the slaughter, it was still engaging enough to keep me interested.

I'll probably rewatch at a later date with hubby. I've seen worse and this one keeps you interested in my opinion.

Two words. Dead Calm.
antant-138386 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Shameful rip off of the very very good "take them to a cabin and kill them" genre film Dead Calm. And jet Ski's don't carry that much fuel, wouldn't bother to find out why.

Could have been better
mirysoa11 February 2023
The movie fell short. It's one of those movies that leaves you thinking "could have been... but wasn't".

The movie is about three people in a boat with a dead motor in the middle of the sea. Things start going wrong, and Jess doesn't know who to trust: her new boyfriend? Or the other girl?

One thing that I found disturbing was all the yelling and shouting. It was like watching a horror movie that was commissioned to a highschooler for summer project: everybody is yelling, and the actual acting part is super shallow. Now, I found Ella-Rae Smith acting actually spot on. I can't say the same for her colleagues; they didn't seem to believe in their characters themselves.

The movie would have been more enjoyable, and to be taken more seriously, with more psychological tension (and some good "scary" silence).

The other thing is the plot itself. I think that some more work could have been done to make it more interesting, because "I just want to know what you did" isn't that strong as a motive. Also, some moments weren't that plausible.

I enjoyed the movie on a lazy Saturday while cleaning the house. All the yelling helped boost my cleaning mood... I don't think it's the kind of movie I'd sit down to actually focus on intensively. Because then, I'd most likely notice more implausible things... Yeah, it's a movie that could have definitely been better.

Why not make a better movie?
driftonaway10 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The acting wasn't bad, and you can't blame them anyway with such an insane, holey script. It just seems like there's so many other ways to tighten this up and make it a worse dead calm. "I can"t swim"... 10 mins later... cmon let's go for a swim hahaha. I want to see the script... where it says and then Lexy rides off into the ocean with a full tank of gas in her jet ski and a full heart dead set on revenge. If they made it bad as a joke then I'll move it up to 5 stars, just let us know. And her poor dad is still wondering if he lost his only child and wife now even until this moment. Make a sequel!

No ups and downs in this bland thriller...
paul_haakonsen27 September 2022
Writer David Beton delivered a rather generic script and storyline here for director Kate Cox to bring to life on the screen. And if you enjoy a good old fashioned thriller, then I am sad to say that "Into the Deep" doesn't bring the goods.

Sure, "Into the Deep" was watchable enough for what it turned out to be. Though it was a pretty straight forward thriller without any twists or ups and downs in the storyline. And a thriller without such things makes for a somewhat bland viewing.

I hadn't heard about "Into the Deep" prior to sitting down to watch it. As such, then I wasn't really expecting a whole lot, so writer David Beton and director Kate Cox had every opportunity to entertain and bedazzle me with this 2022 movie. Suffice it to say, they did not.

And I wasn't familiar with the cast ensemble in "Into the Deep", but I will say that the actresses and actors did perform well enough, given the circumstances of a subpar script and storyline. It was a relatively small cast ensemble, but they performed adequately enough to carry the movie being few in numbers.

For a thriller then "Into the Deep" just didn't make the cut. It is the type of thriller that you watch once, then shelf it and never take it out to be played ever again. A rather monotonous and forgettable storyline actually.

My rating of "Into the Deep" lands on a very generous four out of ten stars.

Ahhhhh could have been decent
gninja11 August 2022
Yes had many holes. Being a yacht skipper the holes were painful but for those never been on a boat, unsure if they would be that obvious. There were other holes without doubt, so will leave it there. That said it completely failed for me at the end, like a scene from the aussie H2O series, for my own reputation i was forced to watch H2O with daughter :) . My basic summary is actor's were good for what they had to work with. @Director, come on really???

The usual weak British film with no real passion
traceytak16 August 2022
It's very dull, does not captivate the viewer and there are British tv shows (albeit few) that have better characters, better acting and suspense that is not so obvious that the viewer doesn't sit and wonder why they bothered seeing it through. The main man is ok but the two women are just wooden. I am British too and films like this are an embarrassment that this is the level we are at in suspense films and it needed an American actor just to make it watchable (plus a few naked scenes to appease the men viewers and try to convince them they haven't completely wasted their time which is definitely the sign of a bad film/movie)

Not good at all
emmanuelmia26 November 2023
Mediocre acting & dull plot. I expected a much better twist & is left unsatisfied as well as disappointed. Would've been much more interesting & shocking if the perpetrator was Lexi. Movie was 90 minutes long but felt like I was laying on my bed for an eternity praying that it would end. As a single mother I cherish my time heavily and I am genuinely upset since I know I could never get those 90 minutes back! The movie was not horrible but just very pointless to me & lacked substance as well as proper character build up. I wish there were more emphasis on Ben & his back story explaining how/why as well as Lexi. There were no flashbacks just a low budget disaster.

Lead actor is awful, people arent understand the very simple plot, easy watch for a lazy Friday
beccar-012614 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I dont understand some of the reviews they clearly dont understand the very simple plot. Heres the gist of it.... A girl meets a man who ends up drugging her (you dont know this at the time) on waking up they are out at sea, shortly after some romances they rescue a woman whos on a jet ski, after leaving you guessing who can trust by putting you in Jess's shoes, dodgy characters & suspicious behaviour .. its revealed its the man whos been drugging women repeatedly and assaulting them, taking photos as souvenirs, the woman who was rescued (lexi) was one of these women, who planned to board the ship with a cover story in order to get revenge, she had marked her face in hopes it would disguise her along with changing her hair colour, he doesnt recognise her (as hes done it to alot of women) the ending is a happy one. Jess goes back to the boat after it blowing up as she thinks she can maybe saver ( she wasnt able to save her mother from drowning) jess feels like it could be closure however the boat explodes again but lexi tirns up near the jet ski, the mans body is left on the boat and they go off into the sun set/rise as it wear.

Its not going to be memorable, the lead actor is just cringe and so overdramatic but so are the other two, its a good watch for a Friday night takeaway of your also the sort to browse on your phone.
