Very poor
ryan_brookes2 May 2008
Predictable, boring and unfunny are words i would use to describe this flick. There is nothing unique about this movie that makes it stand out from any other in its (very saturated) genre. I had pretty much worked out the whole movie by the midway point as it was so predictable.

I wont even get started on the acting!! That was even worse! I have seen soap actors pull off a better job than this cast, talk about wooden? If your looking for a film that has nothing new to offer, poor acting, poor narrative, rubbish dialogue then look no further.

Did anyone else notice how old the cast were? These guys were supposed to be 16 or 17? Some with full beards etc. This only added to the pain of watching this film as it made the whole thing non believable.

This is what Superbad would have been had you taken out the humour, good dialogue, story, acting ability.

One to miss.

Boring
blonx4 May 2008
I stopped watching about half way through the movie, I was just too bored to see it through to the end.

I actually enjoy teen movies even though I'm getting older, but there was just nothing in this one that could keep my attention.

The acting seemed wooden and the whole editing and camera work just radiates boring to me.

As for the jokes, they where not funny at all, I can't actually remember a single line or joke from the movie and it is only 2 days ago that I tried to watch it.

Avoid.

Painful, save your time, money, blood pressure

Warning: Spoilers
This is a prime example of a movie that doesn't need a spoiler warning. I can't think of a single thing that I could say that would spoil this movie, it starts slow and spoils itself almost immediately.

The high ratings it receives obviously come from family and friends, and I applaud your loyalty. I can't imagine what it would be like to belittle and shame yourself in order to caress the fragile ego of almost everyone involved in this "film"

One must assume that this was printed with one take, because if it wasn't, the director and actors are pathetic. Case in point, girl making out in car, father pulls boy out of car, girl says (in monotone voice like a weather caster) "dad, what are you doing?", devoid of emotion. Father responds woodenly with like ambivalence.

The only reason this film doesn't garner a "1" is for the very limited chuckles, and trust me, you will grow weary waiting for those few.

The Weekend will surely set a record for a blazing trip to the $.99 DVD bin, but before you spend your dollar on it, consider giving that $1 to a homeless person, you'll feel better.

Pretty Awful Even As Teen Comedies Go
NeoRisingPhoenix2 May 2008
Looks like the director's friends put in some good words for him at IMDb just looking at the comments for this movie. I'm sorry, but this is one of the absolute worst teen comedies I have ever seen, and that's saying a lot. This movie makes the latter American Pie sequels seem like absolute masterpieces in comparison. That's how bad this movie was. Terrible acting. It didn't seem like there was ANY chemistry between the actors. These supposed high school students all looked like they were in their mid to late 20s. There wasn't really anything funny at all in the movie, and the pace was terribly slow and sluggish. Don't let the plant comments fool you, this movie is utter garbage. Don't say I didn't warn you.

Total crap
ceerider3 May 2008
I look at the comments applauding this movie and I wonder if these people are talking about the same movie. Obviously they are planted comments. The Weekend would have to be the worst teen movie I've ever seen. Not only was the acting atrocious but the camera work, the characters, the story line and the editing were all equally pathetic. Heres a tip for future teen movie makers. Get decent actors, a decent script, a decent story and you may make half a decent film. I've never seen such rubbish as The Weekend in all my life. I hated this movie so much that I kicked myself for wasting my bandwidth with the download and after watching it I deleted it from my computer. There goes an hour and a half of my life that I will never get back. If there was a 0/10 I would give it that but I have to suffice with 1/10.

Pice of crap
nikhil_315 May 2008
This movie sucks big time. First of all it doesn't even look like movie. It seems some pathetic TV serial which could not be aired on television (obviously due to shitty screenplay, script) and then they bundled it into a movie.

I watched it for 30 mins continuously and after that , I resorted to fast-forwarding it, looking for some thing that will keep me interested, but even then the movie revolved around the same stupid party scene, 2 (gay) friends in car and blah blah blah.

This movie should be banned ,

so as nobody on this planet waste his precious 90 minutes of life.

"The weekend" is just painful to watch
bingo_bjossi3 May 2008
Not only is the story thin and boring, the jokes are not funny, the acting is horrible and editing is probably done ON the actual camera. Some of the dialog just does not fit in with what is happening and most of it is so bad that it makes the acting even worse than it is.

I can't believe that I spend my bandwidth on actually downloading this crap... I mean it is not even worth a space on my hard-disk! I advice everyone just to look else were, this is a total waste of time unless you want to see how to NOT make a movie.

Michael Todd Kuskin, you might consider more experience in the field before you write, direct, act and produce all at once! I can understand why this movie sucks so bad since this is your first of everything (according to IMDb).

Please don't see this 'movie'
InterCC3 May 2008
I wouldn't like to waste more time on this crap than I've already did, but I feel that I need to warn people. The script is bad, the filming even worse and the acting fits perfectly with the script and filming.

The Weekend seems to be the first movie ever by Michael Todd Kuskin and I hope he will make (much) better movies in the future, of maybe no other movie at all. The people that gave this movie a rating over 5 are involved in making this movie, I think. I can't repeat it enough, this movie is really bad and please don't make the same mistake I did. Spend time on it... Actually, you've wasted more time on this movie by reading this text than it's worth.

To conclude. If you have too much time on your hands and nothing nice to do I still suggest you do something else than watching this movie.

Worst Movie Ever
blntpro5 May 2008
Bad acting, boring camera work, incredible sound problems, boring story, no real story to even speak of. There was no clear idea about why I was supposed to care. I didn't care about any of the characters or their half-baked motivations. It squeezed just about every boring cliché there is into one party. This was the worst movie I have ever seen that is trying to be taken seriously.

In addition to the movie being weak, the box art is misleading. Calling it "Unrated and off the hook" is just a terrible marketing lie. There is only one scene that could be considered adult. I'm not upset that there was hardly any of this content, I'm just offering fair warning that this movie even fails on box art.

Finally, the positive comments posted here are clearly planted. The over-all score for this film is quite poor (4.2 at the time of this review), yet all of the posted comment seem to be saying this was the best movie they have ever seen. This is the lowest of the low. Grow up.

A two thumbs down must not see movie.
tadi25-13 July 2008
Watching films should be an enjoyable experience (the Weekend) was a punishment. With its very bad acting and extremely poor story (The Weekend) delivers nothing but pure waist of time. Who ever said this movie is even close to good has some thing to do with it, so please if you want to do a teenage movie you should put teenagers in it. Do your self a favor if you were an actor in this movie then find yourself another job because acting is not for you, and if your some one who just want something to do then go spend some time with your family i think they deserve it more.

I have nothing else to say on this pure garbage.

6 reasons not to watch this movie!
martvandewiel11 June 2008
I look up movies at IMDb all the time before i watch them. And i must say this is the first time I felt the urge to say something about a movie. I joined up IMDb just so I could vent my frustrations!

I just wasted 100 minutes watching this crap. I'm always in for a unknown movie, just to have something fresh to watch, but this movie just blew me away. Here's my summary of what sucked about this movie: The actors were totally miscast; The actors looked like wooden puppets, and acted like them too; The script didn't have a story in it whatsoever; The camera-work looked like a monkey did it; The editing totally F'd up what was left of this movie; The music is incoherent and absolutely random

So please don't waste your time on this movie. Go enjoy life...

Advertising is way off on this movie
themanisthegirl7 May 2008
This is a very interesting situation with this movie. its marketed like its American pie but it really is a much different kind of movie. And I like the movie that it turned out to though the ads made me think it was going to be totally different. i think a lot of the people on here thought that it was going to be a different kind of movie so they are reacting to that. if we had known what kind of movie it was going to be from the beginning i bet perceptions would have been different. This wasn't a perfect movie but it was quite good and really funny. I think the filmmakers could have a good future but they need to watch out for they way the movie is marketed because people don't like to be tricked or to feel tricked. if we knew from the beginning that this movie wasn't out of control zaniness and was more realistic and subtle it would have worked more in the audience's favor. but i've seen a lot of movie covers with legs so i'm thinking this is some type of distribution formula. Put legs on the cover and people will buy! Next time, lose the legs and be more forthright.

Attractive cast, low budget teen comedy
docsports5 May 2008
This movie is not nearly as bad as some of the reviews would lead you to believe. Nor it is good as some of the "excellent" reviews. The acting is fine but the storyline is predictable. The movie is not hilarious but it does have its moments. The biggest problem with the movie is the age of the actors playing the teens. Everyone is obviously older than the role they are playing, which, and you would have to ask the writer, would have worked better if these "kids" were supposed to be in college. I think the storyline would have worked just as well with college age characters. The movie does have a very attractive cast and they do the best they can with the material they are given. This movie is not nearly as bad as some of the teen movies produced by the majors and if you watch it with an open mind I think you will see the future potential of many of the people involved in this film.

A Valiant Effort But Falls Short Of Satisfying A Coming of Age Comedy
Ed-Shullivan3 February 2014
Have you ever rented a movie title that you had never heard about, and then after viewing the film, you were pleasantly surprised by how well it hit the target with you? Well if you have, keep looking on the video store shelves because I suggest you may just want to take a pass on The Weekend. This film was just another of the many campy movie genre films that tries to capture the camp success of previous films such as the American Pie trilogy, and to some extent, even films from the early 1970's such as The Summer of 42 and the Class of 44.

One of the first signs that I look for to assess whether a film may have some potential or not, is to see if the writer and the director are one and the same person, or if the writer and director are two separate people. Nine out of ten times when the writer and director are one and the same person the film tends to be a flop. The Weekend is such a film. Michael Todd Kuskin deserves some credit for his attempt at writing and directing this film since the actors he put on the screen were pretty good. I just did not enjoy the story line which consists of a bunch of teenage kids who are coming of age and trying to party like there will be no tomorrow and then circumstances present themselves to these hormone raged teenagers that one by one they fall victim to a prank and/or a nearby parent.

Yes, the story is a common one and sometimes such as with the American Pie trilogy the story works and appeals to a vast audience base. The Weekend though, is just a valiant attempt by writer/director Michael Todd Kuskin to try and copy some of the success of earlier films but unfortunately falls short, and I just didn't relate to any one of the characters, or their personal story as being very interesting.

The musical score is another example of how the film tries to maintain an upbeat and hip story, but even the music is not catchy enough to keep an audience remembering The Weekend and wanting for a sequel. Thus in the past 7 years we have yet to see a sequel or a second production by writer/director Michael Todd Kuskin.

I gave The Weekend a 4 out of 10 and I suggest that you will also be disappointed (as I was) if you choose to watch the film.

Don't miss this one.
wtp299225 February 2008
I saw this film at the 'Southern Winds Film Festival' and I was very impressed. I would categorize this film as a Hughes-esquire teen comedy. To call it a out-and-out 'teen comedy' doesn't do it justice. Yes, it is laugh-out-loud funny but there is also a lot of genuine heart and soul in it also. The performances by the cast (a group of relative unknowns) are really sensational. Of particular note is Kristian Kordula. It is only a matter of time before he appears on Hollywood's A-list of young stars. And let's not forget the man who brought this all together - Michael Kuskin. His writing and the directing is so smart and fresh. He really knows how to portray real life situations. Kuskin is a true rising star.

Do yourself a favor and buy or rent the DVD.

I read the external review. Expectations are a bitch...
thebestintown12348 May 2008
I read the external review for this movie and agree. this movie seems like its being commented on by all the people who wanted a rowdy American pie type movie. wow that's all i wanted to say but this thing is making me type a minimum of 10 lines. that is a lot of lines. So since i have to type more anyway I watched the movie after reading the external review and that made me expect a different movie than rowdy. With that viewpoint in mind I liked this movie. But if i wanted American pie i'm not so sure how happy i would have been. This is a low budget movie but it looks good, the acting is good, its funny, and most of all I thought the situations were very realistic. I agree with that official review. A 7 vote seems about right. I would say don't listen to the overreacters on this page. There is a lot of good stuff in this movie. So many great individual scenes, even if the whole is a little messier. Wow i reached 10 lines. I am awesome.

Very Surprising. Really really liked this movie
AmandaTinny6 May 2008
Wow I was kind of surprised when I saw the comments on this movie. Judging from the comments and the votes on both sides, this is a movie that you either love or hate. I personally loved it. I saw the trailer had a million hits on Youtube so I got the DVD. Me and my friends loved it! It was definitely not what we were expecting. I thought it would be like one of those American Pie movies but it was not low brow. It was really thoughtful. And pretty darn funny. We were laughing a lot pretty much all the way throughout. I guess some people here have a problem that it is a low budget movie but I think it was better than most stuff anyway. I can say this much, I watched it with five of my friends and we all enjoyed it a lot. Especially because so so many of the situations reminded me so much of things that happened to us in high school. And the main guy is so hot! (the guy staring at you on the poster).

Not bad
firstymcnoggin9 May 2008
I saw this movie and it wasn't bad. Pretty funny. It passed the time just fine and I did laugh a bunch. I would say that a lot of the scenes are really good but as a whole it should be more to the point. Either way I enjoyed it. It had typical characters from teen movies but pretty real situations. Especially near the end when the parents come home that reminded me so much of real parens and there reactions to kids and the crazy things they do. Some parts were much better than others but for a low budget movie it was pretty good and solid. I would recommend it but not as American pie movie.

Marketing did trick me though. Ha ha

Terrific Movie
skillvanillaplyr9 March 2008
This is an epic movie that will surely go down as one of the best teen comedies/dramas of our generation. The best thing about "The Weekend" is its compatibility and its ability to entertain an audience of 60 year olds to one of pre pubescent teenagers. You'll be drawn in by sexy situations that will have you pulling your hair and wishing you could have influence on the characters. Although some may boldly prejudge this movie and characterize it black and whitely as a teen comedy, it is has much more depth and meaning that that. Kuskin has a way of making you fall in love with his characters, and you leave the movie feeling young and vibrant like a 12 year old boy who has just seen a boob for the first time.

Pretty good movie. Advertising is off I agree. Go in expecting something different
tinman2223338 May 2008
I agreew with the person on there that wrote that the advertising is off on this movie. I did find this movie through youtube and watched a scene so I feel like I was better prepared for what kind of movie it was. I ended up liking the movie. So did my friends but they definitely thought it was going to be like American Pie from the box cover. So once it was accepted what kind of movie this was, a small independent feature with likable characters reacting to teenaged situations in very realistic ways, then you should enjoy it.

I'm giving it a 7 out of 10 because I think on its own terms thats what this movie is. Much better than most direct to DVD movies. And for sure there were a lot of laughs and a lot of heart. Its just going in you have to know thats what you're going to get and you will end up liking it as well.

I would like to say that is always interesting to see how distributors handle certain movies. I definitely would have liked a more honest approach to this film. Either way, i'm sticking with my 7.

Definitely a pleasant surprise and worth seeing!
otherworld-119 March 2008
I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this movie. When you first grab it, you think this is going to be another copy-cat teen comedy. Although it is a high school comedy there are a lot of fresh and funny things about it. The cast is also very professional although they are generally new faces or have limited experience. Scott Miller was very convincing in his role. I believe we will see a lot from this exceptional actor in the future. Also keep your eye on Kristian Kordula who did a great job as the other lead. Erin Cunninghamis also a very bright spot. She turned in an enjoyable performance. Altogether, with the direction of Michael Kuskin, the surprisingly professional cinematography and the performances of Scott Miller, Kristian Kordula, Erin Cunningham and the other cast members, this movie is definitely worth seeing.

Liked this movie
thirth3339 June 2008
I think a lot of the comments are extreme. Some love it. Some hate it. Some point to conspiracies. I just thought it was a nice sweet little movie. It obviously was independent and had a low budget but the cover makes it seem like it would be different. Either way, I thought it was very sweet. It reminded me a lot of high school. And the movie doesn't cop out, it treats everything as thought it would actually happen. The parents are very realistic and I found the movie to be very funny. I liked the characters and found myself laughing a lot. If you want to see an American Pie sequel, you'll probably be disappointed. If you want to see a nice film with a lot of genuine sincerity and heart, this is more your speed. Kudos to the makers of this movie. Interesting to see what you'll do next time.

It gave me a wonderful feeling, awesome movie!!
antiparadox1 May 2008
I went into this movie thinking it would be another American pie spin off, boy was I wrong. Sure its got every stereotype teenager there is but in this movie they all feel so goddamn real, the setting, the way they act, that weekend feeling, doing things behind parents backs. I don't laugh quickly not even at the best comedies but this movie put a smile on my face, not because the super funny jokes or anything but just because I could relate to it so much. There's this part where 2 nerd brothers start out as distant relatives and during the movie you see them growing together, the younger one always saw his older brother as just another nerd, but by the end of the movie all he had was respect.

Acting was superb. Movie clearly deserves my score, much better than any mainstream tripe that gets put out these days. A 10 million dollar budget movie has got nothing on this one.

the weekend hilarious movie
jkjr11197 April 2008
This movie was definitely very cool. I saw it in LA while my buddy was doing sound work on it. after visiting my friend , i was really entertained by what was on his monitor and asked if i could waatch the whole thing. i watched it with my girlfriend and we both really thought it was great. so funny we were laughing a lot. i saw that the trailer was blowing up on youtube so and came to find it on IMDb. trailer was funny but the movie was not just the big party type teen film. it had a bunch of drama, a lot of hilarious situations, and felt more john hughes-ish than American pie like the ad says. not surprised that Warner picked it up because we enjoyed it from beginning to end. and the new actors were really great too. that crazy kid buying the drugs wass hilarious and the guy who played Jacob seems like a future star (then i saw him in College Road trip, haha , thought i like this movie better by a mile). so congrats to everyone who worked on this movie. check it out if you can, so many quotable lines. dialogue was extra sharp and funny.

great movie!
eclipse31611 September 2007
This movie is awesome....It's so funny, and completely full of heart-- Check out Max Knopf's performance--he's hilarious! His facial expressions are perfect... I've re-watched this movie a bunch of time and it just keeps getting better. The writing is so clever, and I find myself quoting it often. This movie had me laughing out loud, but really caring about what happened to the characters. It's hilarious, but it's in no way shallow or empty. The characters are really well-developed, and I could definitely relate. It was truly a nostalgic experience! Definitely don't miss The Weekend-- I loved it and I'm certain that anyone would...
