Exclusive: On April 18th of this year, at a parole board hearing in New Hampshire, convicted murderer James Parker was granted parole for his role in the brutal 2001 stabbing murders of Half and Suzanne Zantop, a pair of married Dartmouth professors. After acquiring rights to Judgment Ridge, a work of nonfiction detailing the chilly story of those murders, producers Randy and Steven Toll have enlisted Matthew Gentile (American Murderer) to direct a feature adaptation from his own script.
Written by Dick Lehr and Mitchell Zuckoff, Judgment Ridge evokes clear memories of Truman Capote’s In Cold Blood, as it delves deeply into the inexplicable behavior that led to these ruthless murders. It was at age 16 that Parker conspired with his best friend to commit the murders of the Zantrops. He and co-conspirator Robert Tulloch came to commit the crime after plotting to put together the $10,000 they needed to move to...

The cast of “Hard Truths,” the 23rd film from legendary British director Mike Leigh, has been unveiled, along with a first look image.
The feature, which like most Leigh projects has remained under a veil of secrecy, has reunited the filmmaker with Marianne Jean-Baptiste, who received an Oscar nomination for his 1996 drama “Secrets & Lies.” Michele Austin, another frequent Leigh collaborator, also stars.
“Hard Truths” was shot in London in 2023 and, following his historical epics “Mr. Turner” and “Peterloo,” sees Leigh return to the contemporary world. However, plot details are still scarce, the film’s only description being that it’s a “tough but compassionate intimate study of family life”.
Leigh was joined behind the camera by his regular crew members, including producer Georgina Lowe, cinematographer Dick Pope, costume designer Jacqueline Durran (who recently earned her 9th Oscar nomination for her work on “Barbie”), production designer Suzie Davis, composer Gary Yershon...

Cliffhanger producer and The Legend of Hercules director Renny Harlin is back with another hard-hitting action film that aims to hit you like a ton of bricks. Hailing from Vertical, The Bricklayer stars Aaron Eckhart and revolves around a rogue insurgent blackmailing the CIA by assassinating foreign journalists and making it appear the agency is responsible. As other nations turn against the U.S., the CIA must lure Steve Vail (Eckhart) – their most brilliant and rebellious operative – out of retirement. With an elite and deadly skill set, Vail is tasked with helping clear the agency’s name, forcing him to confront his checkered past while unraveling an international conspiracy.
Bringing pain alongside Steve to those who deserve it most is Nina Dobrev’s Kate, a young, no-nonsense agent with a penchant for violence and a mean trigger finger. Clifton Collins Jr., Tim Blake Nelson, and Ilfenesh Hadera also star as primary cast members.

After watching Eron Eckhart’s Muzzle, I thought the actor was done and wouldn’t get any good movies like he used to get in his prime. However, after watching Rumble Through the Dark, I fell in love with his craft again. Eckhart had done action movies, but nothing came even close to his latest film. The film is raw and convincing, and you can’t help but feel his pain and the things he’s going through. Eckhart stepped into the shoes of Jack Boucher, a man drowning in debt. Jack did whatever odd jobs he could find to earn some extra green. When he wasn’t earning, you could find him in the casino, trying to double whatever he had walked in with. As already established, Jack owed a huge sum to the bank, which, if not paid in time, would risk the foreclosure of his house. However,...

"Jack’s mind has begun to fail, too. Decades of bare-knuckle fighting are now taking their toll, as concussion after concussion forces him to carry around a stash of illegal painkillers and a notebook of names that separates friend from foe.

It’s been a strange last decade of acting for Aaron Eckhart. Everyone knows the actor as Harvey Dent from Christopher Nolan‘s 2008 blockbuster “The Dark Knight. But since then, Eckhart’s done mostly B-movies, actioners, and dramas that barely make waves at the box office. And for every hidden gem he’s done in recent years, like 2020’s “Wander,” there’s something like 2014’s “I, Frankenstein” that’s so abysmal one wonders why Eckhart signed on to make the pic.

"You still fight?" Lionsgate has unveiled the official trailer for an action thriller called Rumble Through the Dark, another of these direct-to-vod releases coming up this fall. It's getting a one week run before being available to watch at home in November. Adapted from the novel titled The Fighter by Michael Farris Smith (but of course that movie title was taken by the Christian Bale boxing movie The Fighter from 2010). In the dark landscape of the Mississippi Delta, a bare knuckle cage fighter seeks to repay his debts in a final, desperate attempt to salvage the family home of his dying foster mother. Starring Aaron Eckhart as Jack Boucher, with Bella Thorne, Ritchie Coster, Amanda Saunders, Joe Hursley, Mike McColl, Derek Russo, Christopher Winchester, and Marianne Jean-Baptiste. This looks stylish and brutal, though not that memorable, the same story we've seen in so many other fighting films. At least Eckhart looks good.
