Painful ... and brilliant

Cru (UK title Raw) is a perfect example of what can be done in 10 minutes. I saw this as part of a Ones to Watch screening at the Satisfied Eye International Film Festival and it was one of my most edge-of-the-seat experiences throughout the festival. A seemingly simple short that examines the experiences of a young chef in a kitchen at a high end restaurant, it's as nail-biting as any horror movie with an incredible piece of accomplished directing. Suported by a wonderfully edgy and truthful performance by the lead actress, it really does keep you on the very edge of your seat throughout. It's a great ensemble piece, held together by an ice cold colour palette, wonderful editing and sound that complement the tension and leave you sweating just as much as Jeanne at the closing credits.

a drop of blood

A young woman, from a wealthy family, works as apprentice chef in high - class restaurant. For her is clear - this is her vocantion. For her boss, the things are more nuanced. A work accident changes everything.

It is more than a splendid crafted short film about cooking, ambition, pressure and a mistake becoming virtue.

It is a wise crafted parable about things who real matters, tenacity and use of opportunities. And, sure, about value of few drops of blood in a fancy sauce .

The acting is just beautiful, like the cinematography and dialogue between two women, offering the ways traits of each of them. The sauce becomes the key of a profound change to succed and survive for the young woman.
