The House Painters
JordanThomasHall4 February 2020
An out-of-town painting contractor gives a high estimate to paint Sam's house. Howard points toward the community friendship principles in the past tradition of "barn raising" toward painting Sam's house. He gets Goober and Emmett on board and informs Sam, who appears reluctant with the job they may do. For fear of hurting their feelings, Sam accepts. They feel they can get the job done in one day, but take their time getting started. This and their methods quietly agitate Sam. As things spiral downward, Sam struggles to keep his cool.

Better than average

Decent episode for the fact it's the main core cast. Alice Ghostley is in a very minor roll. Kind of hard to believe men who are homeowners could be so inept and disorganized taking on a house painting project. Howard Sprague (Jack Dodson) has theories but they don't carry over to efficiency.

1960s women are put in the subservient role here in the background preparing the food for the hard working men. Sam was foolish letting amateur painters climb ladders on his property being responsible if there was an accident.

Borrows from TAGS Newton Monroe's (Don Rckles) painting fiasco making believe the redone fixed paint job was his doing.

That's about how it usually goes !

Warning: Spoilers
Against his better judgement,Sam Jones reluctantly has the neighborhood men paint his house for 'free'.

Well,it goes just about like it does in real life.... The material cost is more than Sam likely planned on. The crew gets off to a very slow, late start. And so on... It is headache on top of headache for poor Sam. While everyone is trying to get started working,Sam is slowly starting to get peeved as it is becoming a fiasco.

The job is bigger than they realized, the paint is getting mixed wrong, and the men are getting testy. (Just like in real life). Sam sends the men off,and gets some pro painters to finish the job. A few days go by,and Sam decides he will go to town to find the guys he fired and try to patch things up with them.

As he is about to leave to go downtown, the men he was going to see pull-up in a car together and the men end-up talking it over and hashing it out. The original painters then notice that the house looks great now,and they think that the paint they put on the other day has dried to end up looking very nice,after-all!

Will Sam have the heart to tell them the truth about the other painters,or just let things ride,as they are ?

Good episode indeed !
