Wait that was it???
lmnclips217 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
What I've learned from all the LIFETIME movies released over the past two years is that writers/producers can have excellent movie ideas, but a poor way of executing it. This one is no exception.

Basically the plot centers around this young woman named Lacey who's offered a job to live in isolation with a "method actor". This had so much potential to be good, but they hardly even tried with the story.

All the positive reviews here were obviously written by the people who've worked on the film, to make it look like a good, recommendable movie. This is a common tactic among filmmakers, and it's so despicable. Basically tricking the people reading the reviews into thinking it's a great movie, only to be utterly disappointed at the unfinished, sloppy ending. The producers of The (Virgin) Sinners (2021) and You Can Never Go Home Again (2022), also did this. Also if you visit the reviewer's profile, you can see that they've written a review for a movie produced and directed by the same people. So they couldn't have made it more obvious.

I like watching Nicky Whelan on LMN. It's a shame her character is literally only in the beginning and end of the movie. She makes a brief appearance at the start, and then we don't see her again until the hospital scene.

The ending left me with a lot of questions. Lacy stabs Desmond with a knife and then the police shoot her. Next scene is her in a hospital room in a coma while Sharon sits by her side. A bottle of pills are found, and it is revealed shortly afterwards that Desmond had schizophrenia and was on medication for it. Sharon then says I'm sorry to a comatose Lacy as she walks away from the hospital room. Really?? That was it?? I've seen a lot of other Lifetime movies with disappointing endings but this one takes the cake!

One last note: I'm not really an animal person, but I really hate it when the bad guy kills the protagonists pets. Even if it doesn't make a difference to the story!

Unrealized Potential - Dangerous Methods
arthur_tafero21 October 2022
It is always a sad task to review a film that could have been good because it had good writing, but was not properly executed by the director and the actors. Dangerous Methods is one of those unfortunate films. The storyline is very interesting, but the actors deliver their lines in an unconvincing manner, and the director does nothing to fix that problem. The poor acting may be due to inexperience on the part of most of the cast, or it may be partially due to poor directing. Regardless, the end result is unsatisfying and not believable. At least the writers of this tale have a bright future in the film industy.

How is it possible that this movie has some good user reviews? Waste of time!
frank-liesenborgs24 May 2022
The movie is about a deranged method actor, Desmond Gage (Christopher Showerman), who is hiring a new personal assistant, Lacy (Rachele Brooke Smith). She makes the smartest move a young girl can do, moving into his remote cabin with no cell service at all. Please avoid this movie! The only reason I can give points is because Costas Mandylor (who plays Harry, father of Lacy) is in this movie. This movie has no direction, is boring, bad acting, no storyline, a lot of plot holes and an ending that will leave you even more confused as the movie itself. I am doing you all a favor, please avoid this movie at all cost. A waste of time and one of the worst movies I have seen this year.

Plot Hole
Elkabong194012 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The guy kills the cop. Wouldn't the police look for the cop where he was last? How did he get rid of the cop car? He would have to dump it fairly close to the house. All in all, this movie was a waste of time.

Plot = C, Acting = D, Casting = C-, Location/settings = D, Ending = F
imaginetr4 May 2022
Weird, weak, waste of time. Luckily it was 4am when I watched this, so no productivity lots, just time. I agree with a previous review that the music backing track it too loud, making actual dialogue difficult to hear. An "isolated cabin" yet we easily see truck and car headlights on the very nearby road in a night scene. Awkward to poor acting on pretty much everyone's part. Casting of supports actors was hokie, especially the Police and Doctor. Rachelle Brooke Smith's acting was similarly poor; especially her nervousness and crying scenes, but at least she's very nice to look at. Weak, unsatisfying ending.

Dumb and Dumber
hoops-534362 April 2022
My title describes both the movie and Lacy. She stuck around and stuck around, screwed the guy twice, passed up opportunities to get out. Strange how the cop and her dad happened to both show up at night. Too many coincidences and you have to have a total out of body experience to believe that an actor could "immerse" himself so much that he actually becomes someone else and doesn't remember anything when he gets "unimmersed." The luckiest character we saw was the cat....he didn't have to suffer through the whole thing.

it could have been a good movie...
Casamarciano13 April 2022
.....but the bad plot and the poor performance of the actors prevented it. At no time was there any tension, the actors seemed stiff and artificial. The role of the assistant in particular was absolutely miscast and came across as very stupid. Maybe a talented director and a good scrit writer should do this movie again......

Pass. It's not good.
CranberriAppl3 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Wasn't exactly looking forward to this movie from Lifetime but I watched it while spending the night painting. It's total crap. In a time where the public increasingly finds Hollywood to be a joke, this movie should have been way more meta. An actor that is overly into his character? "Immersed?" What a letdown. I feel like this movie is vaguely inspired by Secret Window and that's not quite a spoiler.

As a Lifetime staple, Nicky Whelan isn't in this movie enough; but also what was the point of her character? I recognized Lacey's dad but I'm not sure from where. This Desmond dude was like a mashup of Don Knotts and Tom Cavanaugh, but a creepy version. Lacey was pretty dumb. Why even stay there after the first sign he was off? This is not a slam on the actor at all, but what was so special about Desmond? I wouldn't exactly say he was charming or attractive...that would have been somewhat of an excuse for Lacey to be curious enough to hang around. No. He's creepy and he looked ill in a way that Lacey doesn't seem to question. He tells her he's gay, but then sleeps with her twice and she doesn't think that's a red flag. At that point, they've blurred the lines of employer/employee, but she hangs around and doesn't consider quitting the way she should. Also personally? Unless it's my home and my family knows where I am, I'm not staying somewhere so remote. If my family and friends knew exactly how to find me, that is different. So many red flags that she just overlooked.

The ending was strange. I rewound it three times because I was sure I missed something. SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER-was it not obvious that he was schizophrenic? Even without the medication explained? He was talking to himself in the mirror for crying out loud. And then what the heck was Nicky W's character's response there at the end? Just shock? There was no point to flashing to the scene of him dumping his meds since it wasn't Lacey that was having that realization. Sheila (NW) didn't see him do that. The opening scene shows him overly into a scene he's shooting. Ok, so since this is a thing he does on and off his meds, has he killed before? Have none of his acting peers noticed this? Also who is going to be there for Lacey when she wakes up?

The last ending so bizarre that I remember was Danger in the Spotlight. This one was worse. At least with "Danger," you can assume a few things and convince yourself of what's going on. This one was just terrible, unsatisfying, and it felt really incomplete. Movies with isolated protags tend to be easy to get into since you can't help but empathize with the protag's plight, but because of the ending, I really can't recommend the movie. I wouldn't watch it again.

VIEWS ON FILM review of Dangerous Methods
burlesonjesse55 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
A Hollywood assistant becomes the assistant to a whacked out actor who I'm thinking, is schizophrenic. That's the rub to 2022's Dangerous Methods. Pay attention to the word methods, or should I say Method (as in acting).

Released this month and featuring title cards as if it were The Shining (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, etc.), Dangerous Methods reveals from the beginning that the lead (Christopher Showerman as Desmond Gage) is loony tunes right off the bat. The assistant to him (if you can call her that) doesn't do much except fawn over him and his A-list status. She must really need the job. I mean anyone else with half a frame of reference would have left the situation on day one.

But wait, there'd be no movie. And you the viewer wouldn't be plodded along hopelessly wondering where the heck "Methods" is going. Director Humberto Rosa wants to build tension but doesn't seem to reach it. The actors are game but their milk-and-water scenes are kind of stuck in neutral.

On the flip side, why would the Hollywood industry even attempt to keep an unstable trouper like Gage on the payroll (he almost strangled someone on set for gosh sake)? And why would Gage's assistant (Lacy Johnson played by Rachele Brooke Smith) be so befuddled as to be seduced by him? I mean is Lifetime (the film's distributor) trying to say that Hollywood is "Hollyweird? It certainly appears so. "Freaking actors".

All in all, I didn't hate Dangerous Methods but I thought it was rather restrained for what it could've been. The unhappy ending amps things up a bit but at the same time, it also felt like a dangling loose end. The fates of everyone involved (the assistant, the assistant's father, the cuckoo thespian) seemed arbitrary at best. Dangerous Methods isn't quite "The Most Dangerous Game".

Cruel and a crazy actor
capitolcarol2 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
We are used to Lifetime movies been weird or filled with twists. This one was beyond belief. The male actor was two-different people, one being unnecessarily cruel. Do not waste your time on this movie.

I found I was sat on the edge of my seat through the whole film. It is well directed, written and well acted. I cannot imagine how terrifying it would be to be in that situation. Well worth a watch!!

Crazy obsessive washed up actor movie strikes again on lifetime
danielbusbyii-831152 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This was ok. Same formula nothing particularly new but it was watchable and enjoyable for what it was. I liked that Costas mandylor was in a lifetime movie, I kind of thought it was going to have at least one out of the ordinary stronger for lifetime movie network murder since I saw the name Costas mandylor but I didnt know but was going to be his character that was going to get killed in a stronger for lifetime movie network way & officer Yates death was another one that kind of stood out to me with officer Yates getting stabbed in the neck even though it was quick. It was also good to see Nicky welhan in a lifetime movie as well as a shady like character. Like I said if you like lifetime movie network movies for what they are, like I do then this will be an enjoyable watch for you. Also it'll make you wonder what happened to Angie that Desmond calls Lacy & it'll make you wonder why Lacy's mom committed suicide even though it didnt go into detail with her mother's suicide. This had two good deaths in it. Kind of give me a little slasher vibes but I guess mostly cause Costas mandylor was in it. I also wish Nicky welhan and Costas mandylor had more screen time in this movie.

Fricking loud background music
windsorenquirer27 April 2022
Maybe it would be more interesting if not for this loud fricking background music, so loud I hardly could hare what they were saying or rather, compared to unnecessary and annoying music, whispering.

Don't they have a sound editor?

Trust me, you'll get nothing out of this despite competent direction, decent acting and a beatiful lead. It's a really un-unique, unsurprising and uninspired story.

A Method to His Madness?
lavatch17 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
There was good potential in the idea of presenting the famous method acting techniques, including the often self-indulgent approaches taken by actors to get "into" their characters. On the surface, the film demonstrated an actor getting so deeply "immersed" that he lost touch with reality.

But the filmmakers were never interested in exploring genuine method acting. Rather, the film degenerated into a Stephen King wannabe horror movie. By the end, the violence was excessive almost to the point of inducing nausea.

The premise that Lacy Johnson would agree to reside in a secluded mountain cabin with the actor Desmond Gage was far-fetched to begin with. But it was beyond the pale to think that she would ever be attracted to this repellent and dirty old man.

The screenplay and the film's concept were not do-able. Sadly, this film was unsuccessful in every respect.

Part 2....
simwilde11 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This is so bad it is actually fun. An assistant gets a dream job working for a method actor that is nuts. He admits he is gay yet she falls for him anyway and he pretends nothing has happened between them only to sleep with him AGAIN. A couple of murders happen along the way. I hope there is a follow up movie called THE MEISNER MURDERS! Only actors will probably get this!

Strange for Lifetime
Well casted! Story line unexpected. However way to violent movie (blood) for the lifetime network. The ending was wrong. Would be better fit for another network.

Worth watching
projetos-215727 April 2022
Actually a pretty good movie, pleasantly surprised by this one!

Sometimes you experience indie films and it feels like a bunch of people that usually do higher budget stuff taking a foray into lower budget. The word seamless comes to mind, and I loove it when that happens. Naturalistic acting, good editing/pacing economical yet classy FX. Also it's rare that the characters are likeable(/attractive) it told a story and it did it well.

Best Thriller so far

Warning: Spoilers
My favorite Thriller movie so far! Interesting script, great performance, and high tension. Unlike many other thrillers stories, you can not predict the ending and with every move you wonder what will happen next.
