Great DCOM, 10 April 2008
Author: deoxys15 from United States

OK, first of all, I think all DCOMs are worth giving a chance. Except for the High School Musical movies, those actually sucked. To me, a lot of DCOMs have a level of maturity and/or seriousness in them. This is why they appeal to me so much, and I'm a 21-year-old guy. Anyway, Minutemen is about three teenagers who build a time machine together, and decide to use it to save their classmates from embarrassing moments. Yeah, I know that may sound corny to older audiences, but the boys will soon learn that even their heroic actions could lead to disastrous consequences. Jason Dolley, who played the lead character Virgil, was pretty good for his first starring DCOM role. I liked the possible messages that the movie tries to deliver, like everything happens for a reason. Or maybe the most worst moment in your life turns out to be the best thing to ever happen to you. In my opinion, DCOMs manage to get themes like this across without seeming corny at all. In conclusion, another excellent DCOM, great for all ages.

Awesome movie, especially for Disney Channel......., 25 January 2008
9/10
Author: smileyparakeet from United States

As a Disney Channel Original Movie, most people wouldn't expect much from Minutemen, but you'd be surprised! To start off with, Minutemen has an amazing plot. I mean, trust Disney Channel to come up with something as corny as High School Musical. But Minutemen, on the contrary, is a fast paced, adventurous, funny movie that'll keep you on the edge of your seat! It might have a few holes in it, but if you watch it for a pure entertainment purpose, it's truly a great movie. The cast is amazing, and they bring out the best in the movie. The three Minutemen were perfectly casted in my opinion! I highly recommend this movie for all ages! Just because it's Disney Channel doesn't mean it's for 3 year olds........

Cute, but not the best DCOM, 26 January 2008
7/10
Author: Clarinerd0102 from United States

I watched this movie last night with my sisters and was somewhat disappointed with it. The plot itself wasn't too shabby, but I don't think that Disney did as good of a job with it as they could have. The acting was mediocre. Of course, the script may have been mostly at fault moreso than the actors themselves. The script called for the characters to be way overdone, i.e. the nerds were unrealistically nerdy and the jocks were super jerks. And the little sister of Virgil(Jason Dolley) was an absolute brat, where were the parents? I did find this movie to be fairly predictable, especially since the previews leading up to it kind of gave away a good portion of the plot. In fact, previews in general tend to do that. Why, I do not know. Now, I know I've basically bashed the movie, but it wasn't a complete waste of my time. It's a fun movie for kids, to point out a positive. At least that's one thing you can always count on with DCOMs, is that they're decent and family friendly. Despite my criticism, I will probably find myself watching it again when it comes on. So, if you get the chance, check it out for yourself!

One of the best written of all the Disney TV movies, 31 August 2008
9/10
Author: murray_mg from Dallas, TX

This one is clever and funny and very well acted. The stories of time travel and and nerds becoming heroes have been done before, but seldom this well. The dialogue is fast-paced and funny, and unlike other teen comedies, is not totally dependent upon pop-culture references for its humor. The teen stars look like real high school students, and are not meant to look model perfect like in "High School Musical" or the "Cheetah Girls". (Okay, Chelsea Staub is the exception, but she's still perfect in her role). Like in real life, the good guys and the bad guys are not 100% good or evil, but are products of their decisions.

But more than anything, this is a very entertaining and fun, smart movie. If Disney had tweaked the special effects just a little, it could have been released in theatres, and I'd bet it would be a box office hit. Who knows? They are making a theatrical sequel to "High School Musical", why not "Minutemen"? I'd pay to see it. Well done.

I LOVE this movie!, 3 March 2008
9/10

I'm not a big fan of Disney Channel Original Movies (apart from the High School Musical films), so I was pleasantly surprised by Minutemen. I've only seen it twice so far, but it's become one of my favourite movies ever and definitely my favourite movie of 2008. The only reason it doesn't get a 10/10 is because it has that Disney Channel feel to it - and that's not a good thing in my opinion. But still, I can't wait to get the eventual DVD. I'll be there first day of sales! I don't know why some people don't like this movie, I mean, it's got a great young cast, a good story, good effects (for Disney Channel), so why the hate? Give this movie a chance. I'm sure you'll love it. I did.

Well Written, 31 December 2008

This movie was really good. Very well written, great acting, great actors, and it was funny, but the writers didn't go out of their way to make jokes, such as in shows as Cory in the House where the characters are clueless and it's supposed to be funny, and the ending, with the teleportation comment, hinted at a sequel. This movie would be excellent as a TV show.

What I really enjoyed about this was the plot. It was well laid out, and, while the movie had it's funny moments, it wasn't to the point that it was cheesy. And the time travel was a very unique approach for Disney, with a bunch of kids being the time travelers. The actors were a good pick, with Jason Dolley, Cory's ditzy friend from Cory in the House, Luke Benward, from How to Eat Fried Worms, Nicholas Braun, from Disney movie Sky High, as the leads, and Chelsea Staub, being a Disney newcomer, does really well in her part. It also had a great soundtrack. with songs from singers such as Corbin Bleu and Aly & AJ. All in all, a very good movie, and I'd strongly recommend it.

Best DCOM ever...?, 7 December 2008
8/10

I saw this movie last night and, to be honest, I didn't expect much. I was expecting a horrible story with awful acting, but I was really entertained! This has to be the most underrated movie to date. It did have a "Happily Ever After" ending, but it was still a good movie. I wish DC came out with more films like this and not High School Musical and Camp Rock.

All in all, I was entertained. It would be more for the 10-14 group, though. People over that would probably be bored. It was a little predictable, but, like I said, entertaining The best part would be when Virgil stands up to Derek.

This years Back To The Future., 24 February 2008

Author: DarkVulcan29 (DarkVulcan29@aol.com) from United States

If you loved Sky High(2005), High School Musical(2006), High School Musical 2(2007), and Wendy Wu:Homecoming Warrior(2006), then this movie is right down that ally, a good blend of sci-fi and comedy. The three main stars in this film seem to do well, and they play off each other enjoyable. It's about a teenage geek(played with a funny awkward charm by Jason Dolley) named Virgil Fox, and is friend boy genius Charlie Tuttle(Luke Benward) invents a time machine, they take outcast Zeke(Sky Highs, Nicholas Braun) along for the ride. They all decide to use the time machine to save teenagers from embarrassing moments, has they go back a day early to prevent it. And all of them use snow suit out fits to wear, and end up becoming time traveling superheros. Disney has done it again.

Disney's Deluxe Do-Over, 16 October 2008

One of the best Disney movies I've ever seen, I give Minutemen a 9.3. The special effects were fair, and the plot gets two thumbs up. It shows different cliques, high school dilemmas, and plenty of hot guys. Luke B. was smart and sweet and Jason D. was a determined dreamer, and got along great and really clicked. I didn't much enjoy the kiss that 18 year old Kara C. (Jeanette) and Luke B. (Charlie) shared, for I'm a huge Luke Benward fan. I felt the pain of having an annoying sister and being an outcast, and could really relate to the troubles of teens. This movie has laughs, love, and real life. All of the things you need for a great flick to watch with friends and family. This movie won my heart and the hearts of many others.

Minutemen to the Rescue, 5 October 2008

When a friend of mine saw my movie selection, he vowed that he would never under any circumstances watch this film. Somehow he did end up watching it and liked it. I guess I did too. I'm not sure what I was expecting but it did end up being a charming and fun film to watch. It was free at the library so I though 'What's to lose but two hours of my life.'

It reminded me of similar but better films. 1985's 'Explorers' with a young Ethan Hawke and River Phoenix is one such film, along with 'Back to the Future' (also 1985), which they make reference to in the film, and 'Clockstoppers'. If the film was made more seriously like those films it would probably stand as a great sci-fi classic. But alas it was made with a Disney Chanel quality to it. It is a sci-fi scenario processed through a pre-teen comedy lens. But remember I said I liked it.

It has enough charm and fun moments to make it a satisfying viewing experience. Like any good sci-fi story it has some good food for thought. Three high schoolers become heroes who travel back in time to save nerds from embarrassment. The time vortex they use for time travel is a whirlwind of light they use a diving board to jump into. Is saving nerds from embarrassment a good thing? Once the nerds are saved they shed their humble and peaceful personas and develop cockiness and pride. Some people have never learned that suffering and embarrassment are sometimes vehicles that strengthen a person's character and keep them humble and good.

Overall not a bad little picture. Wouldn't be bad to own in your library and is at least worth a rental.
