The Dutch comedy duo of Steffen Haars and Flip van der Kuil have a new project heading our way -- and it stars some pretty recognizable faces. Nick Frost has been tapped to lead the pair's first English-language feature, which is already gaining some pretty intense buzz. In a statement to Variety, Haars and van der Kuil said, "It's a dream come true working with this amazing, talented cast on our most insane movie yet." That's one hell of a claim considering these are the folks who made the cocktail of absurdity and vulgarity known as "Ron Goossens, Low Budget Stuntman."
Frost also spoke with Variety and said, "'Krazy House' has been a completely bonkers project to be a part of and I've absolutely loved every minute of it." This is also certainly quite a claim, as Nick Frost is somewhat synonymous with wild, wacky, and wonderful comedy films.

Netherlands-based sales agent Dfw International has added romantic comedy “Costa!!” by Jon Karthaus, a follow-up to the 2001 Dutch cult classic “Costa!” by Johan Nijenhuis, to its Cannes Film Market slate.
Nijenhuis’ latest film “Yasmine’s Wedding” has also been added to the slate.
In “Costa!!” Anna (Abbey Hoes) and her best friend Bibi (Stephanie van Eer) travel to the Spanish coast to visit the famous Costa club where her mother Frida (Katja Schuurman) used to work only to find that it is no longer the place to be, but a run-down karaoke bar. Anna and her friends go all-out to win the battle of the bars and make Costa once again the hottest club on the strip. “Costa!!,” produced by Sabine Brian for Nl Film, was released in the Netherlands on April 28 and has racked up 100,000 admissions.

Exclusive: Lots of movement on the international box office front this past weekend, and into the beginning of the week. Korean zombie sequel Peninsula, as we reported Sunday, made a meal of five overseas markets with a $21M Wednesday-Sunday frame. That’s the best start we’ve seen since March when Onward opened to $28M in 47 markets just as coronavirus fears were spiking and most countries closed cinemas.
On Monday, China got back to business, reaching $500K roughly from about 9K screenings in low-risk areas. Today, the Middle Kingdom surpassed that with $677K as of 10Pm local and mostly off of reissues in the mix, led by Christmas hit Sheep Without A Shepherd.
There is still no confirmed date for Beijing movie theaters to open, though we are hearing it could be within a week. That would be even better news as Hollywood titles that were sidelined by Covid are...

Exclusive: As the international box office slowly limps back to life, the tendency for audiences to lean into fresh and local titles continues. France, for example, saw a 23% increase in ticket sales across the Top 10 over the most recent weekend, led by Gaumont’s new local comedy Tout Simplement Noir and followed by Warner Bros’ Scoob!, also a new entry, which did $900K in the Hexagon – and $1.8M total in five markets.
Scoob!, the feature animation from director Tony Cervone, opted to have a PVOD and digital ownership release instead of theatrical domestically. It began streaming on HBO Max in June, but is hitting cinemas in some overseas markets. The full weekend was $1.8M from France, Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland and Vietnam. The results are strong in light of the ongoing crisis. Spain opens today and there are about 20 more releases still to come.

Korean hit #Alive kicked up another $2.2M this weekend, holding well throughout the mid-weeks, but with an overall 63% Friday-Saturday-Sunday dip from the comparable weekend days last session. The timely thriller that’s set against the backdrop of a city in lockdown due to a virus has now grossed $11M. It’s a continued indication that moviegoers want something new, and in cases of a strong local industry, they’re also enjoying homegrown fare. Still, not much is going to rock the international box office until Hollywood starts releasing fresh titles.
A question has been raised as to whether the studios could release big new movies overseas without the biggest domestic cities given the situation in the U.S. is still dire. While international makes up the lion’s share of receipts (73% in 2019), a finance source explains that an event picture generally goes out on more than 30,000 screens worldwide — those screens are hardly available at present.
