There used to be a time when sequels and part-2s were a rare commodity, and you’d be lucky to get one in the same decade. But we are living in the age of spin-offs and sequels. Production houses are churning out spinoffs of their most popular franchises, and Game of Thrones couldn’t not be one of them.
The massively popular TV series, enraptured a whole generation of audiences right from the pilot episode and left us wanting more. And 2024 brought tons of news in the developments of several new Game of Thrones prequel and spin-offs. Here’s all we know about them so far.

George R.R. Martin recently spilled some beans about the future of Game of Thrones, and it’s looking animated! In his blog post on New Year’s Eve, he couldn’t hide his excitement about several animated spinoffs brewing in the Game of Thrones universe. While these ideas are still waiting for a green light from HBO, Martin seems hopeful. Originally, there were four animated projects on the table, but sadly, two got shelved. The good news? Work on the other two is moving along nicely.
One of these projects is especially intriguing – ‘Nine Voyages.’ It’s all about the Sea Snake, Corlys Velaryon’s epic journeys across Essos. Martin thinks switching this from live-action to animation is a smart move. Imagine the cost of filming those seafaring adventures and creating new ports every week – from Driftmark to Qarth! Animation makes it way easier to bring this vast world to life.

This Dune article contains spoilers.
It remains to be seen if Dune will win Best Picture at the 2022 Oscars. For certain fans of science fiction cinema, it certainly feels like it should. Just like the novel it adapts, Denis Villeneuve’s Dune is more than just a good science fiction story, it’s a good movie first and a good science fiction film second. This means that arguably it’s a good Dune adaptation third. Although the 2000 Sci-Fi Channel version of Dune was pretty faithful to the text, it wasn’t a crowd-pleaser. Villeneuve’s goal was to cast a bigger net, to make a movie that would work for “someone who had never heard about Dune.”
The Best Picture nomination is sideways proof that perhaps he succeeded. And as Dune heads back to HBO Max, many fans — casual sandworms and spice addicts alike — are doubtlessly ready to reassess whether...

Stars: Bruce Willis, Devon Sawa, Luke Wilson, Kat Foster, Kenny Wormald, Rick Salomon, Sufe Bradshaw | Written by Edward Drake, Tom Sierchio | Directed by Edward Drake
Gasoline Alley, (no relation to the classic comic strip), is the fifth collaboration between director Edward Drake and star Bruce Willis. Normally it’s a good thing when a director and performer can work together as a team. But when that teaming produces Breach, Cosmic Sin, Apex and American Siege one has to question why the studio keeps teaming them up.
Ex-con Jimmy Jayne is in a bit of trouble. He lost a lighter with the name of his tattoo parlour, Gasoline Alley, on it. Somebody did find it, but it was Detective Freeman (Bruce Willis) and his partner Detective Vargas. And they found it in the presence of several dead hookers, one of whom he was seen with the night she died. All of...

As a treatise on the relentless drive to secure power for the sheer purpose of seizing power, William Shakespeare’s play Macbeth is unequalled in its recognition of the effects of the evil that men do in pursuit of this power. Denzel Washington stars as Lord Macbeth in Joel Coen’s masterful adaption of the timeless tale of political ambition thought to have been first performed in 1606 that remains as poignant and illuminating today as ever.
Seeking power, Lord Macbeth (Denzel Washington) – along with the aid of his conniving wife (Frances McDormand) – sets a plan in motion to seize control of the Scottish throne through a murderous plot that eventually plunges its perpetrators into madness.
Working without his brother Ethan, director Joel Coen crafts a masterful adaptation of one of the greatest tragedies ever created. Working from his own script, Coen shoots the film in an exquisite black and white provided by Bruno Delbonnel cinematography.

The independent film model, a business that relies on box office revenues, international presales and television licensing, has arguably never been more challenged. French producer Philippe Rousselet is one exec who has been at the sharp end of this change, as his heart-warming, coming-of-age drama Coda kicked off the year with a bidding battle at the virtual Sundance Film Festival, resulting in Apple’s record-breaking $25M worldwide acquisition of the title.
The deal saw a number of international buyers who had prebought the title up in arms at the fact the film was getting taken away from them, especially as their commitments helped get the project financed. It was yet another sign of how dramatically the pandemic and rise of the streamers were accelerating change in the industry.
“It’s a complicated situation,” admits Rousselet, who is founder, chairman and co-ceo of Vendôme Group along with co-ceo Fabrice Gianfermi. “The...
