The Nacelle Company is reviving Silverhawks, a sort of space-themed ThunderCats from the mid-eighties.
Silverhawks was a classic animated television show developed by Rankin/Bass Productions and released in 1986. The show consisted of 65 episodes, with a concept that revolved around a team of 29th Century heroes with metal bodies and wings who were tasked to stop an organized crime ring and protect the citizens of the Galaxy of Limbo, which had been overrun by the show’s antagonist, Mon*Star. He ran a mob featuring some interesting characters, including a shapeshifter, a robotic card shark and a man with blades for arms.
The team at Rankin/Bass likely intended to turn the high-concept idea into a space-themed extension of their already-successful ThunderCats, but the show did not enjoy the success of its predecessor.

Lê Bảo’s feature debut Vi, translated as Taste, follows the lives of four Vietnamese women and a Nigerian immigrant in Ho Chi Minh City as they perform menial labor and, for the span of several days, live together in an abandoned concrete building outside of the city where they cook, bathe, rest, ruminate. It is when the characters come together in the concrete building that the film culminates in its surreal, poetic density: a scene, a single image, seems to stand in for the memory of an event or a life’s worth of experience. Taste is nothing short of entrancing, effervescent—it’s reminds us that a film’s visual beauty can be absolutely arresting but difficult to put into words because words, ultimately, are not film’s primary medium.Taste presents two impressions of living: to live is to strive for what is possible, yet it is...

Sometimes, you see a movie and you know instantly that it was one for the ages: the second that the lights comes up, the second that you leave the theater, the second you step back into daylight, you just know, deep in the pit of your being, that you have just had a transformative experience. I had that with Blood Quantum (2020), with Us (2019), with Hereditary (2018) and with Mother! (2017), times where you know right away that you’ve seen something really special. Other times, however, movies need to grow on you. Sometimes you walk out, nonplussed, and have

Famously, while filming his directorial debut (1982’s Piranha II: The Spawning), director James Cameron fell ill on location in Rome. That night, he had a nightmare where a knife-wielding metallic torso dragged itself desperately from an explosion. Paired with the then-recent success of John Carpenter’s Halloween (1978), Cameron set to work on The Terminator (1984), the sci-fi slasher that would catapult him into the upper echelons of Hollywood A-List. The 43rd edition of Mill Valley Film Festival – run annually by the California Film Institute – announced their programme on the 25th of September. This year’s selection surprisingly sees a paucity of Asian film — presumably as a part of a larger push to squeeze in the glut of US/European premieres unable to show elsewhere. However, some notables – especially Chloe Zhao’s recession fiction “Nomadland” – will still be featured, albeit only in a drive-in cinema. The rest of the film selections are listed below. Some are only available virtually in the CAFilm Streaming Room; others available to stream in California only; and others, like Zhao’s “Nomadland,” available in a drive-in at Marin Center.
