So...
nnom25 October 2019
...very well done, a LOT was crammed into 40 mins, so some shortcuts were inevitable. Whoever's working with Fillion on how HE moves needs a pay bump...Nathan looks bad to the bone and SMOOTH. This ep his age is a factor in a GOOD way, finally. The only way this craps out is if he ends up in a relationship with his new TO. Hopefully they don't get stupid.

Love Nyla and John's Dynamic
SourCandyOrNoCandy22 March 2022
My friend said I might not like the new character at first, so I was expecting wayyy worse than what we actually got. I really like Nyla and how she and Nolan interact. I love that Nolan stands up to her and they just seem to work really well together. I'm looking forward to seeing how their rookie-TO relationship develops.

I REALLY like this Tim-Rachel relationship. Not sure how long it'll last because I'm pretty sure he and Chen are going to get together, but I love it for right now. I like that she's Chen's friend, too. It's a really nice dynamic.

Best part of the episode? Meeting Nyla. I really think she's going to add a lot to this series. She reminds me slightly of Bradford, but a little more rogue-cop than he usually goes.

Worst part of the episode? It felt like Nolan, Nyla, Chen and Bradford were in one episode, and Lopez and West were in a completely different one. Their scenes were impactful on their own, but it felt like they worked completely different shifts to the others.

The New TO
claudio_carvalho20 October 2021
Nolan has a problematic introduction to his new TO Nyla Harper, a former detective with golden ticket that had worked undercover for four years and now surprisingly returned to the LAPD as a training officer. However, she is arrogant, independent, does not trust anyone and has difficulties to follow orders and Nolan is afraid to be dragged with her to indiscipline in the police department. Meanwhile Angela and West save a homeless woman from the paintball attack of two selfish and cruel teenagers and soon they find what happened with the woman ten years ago. Chen and Tim discuss a birthday gift for Rachel.

"Warriors and Guardians" introduces Nolan's new TO. The decorated detective has some secret that forced her to downgrade her career neither Sgt. Grey nor Nolan knows why. Poor Alice, the homeless woman with a secret in her past that destroyed her life. The funny part of the show are the gifts that Tim intends to give to Rachel for her birthday. My vote is eight.

The new TO is a badass and I like how Nolan stood up to her! This season has had great writing and character development. I'm really enjoying The Rookie this year!

Heading in the wrong direction.
kzgak5 November 2019
I love the show and season 1 was great. That said Nolan's new T.O. is a joke. T.O.s are there to train the rookies, to show them the ropes and how not to get killed. Her total disregard for the law, and the rookie under her charge is just laughable. The show strives to be realistic, but this new addition takes a dreadful step backwards.

Why?????
Are there always a girl/woman who has to be a badass ? No respect for anyone. Want to be a real badass? Look at Melinda May. Badass but doesn't need to show everybody. The show really must get rid og Nyla...

In praise of rudeness
dierregi7 July 2023
The new "TO" doesn't care about the job and delivers a line like "I said you must be here in 20 minutes and if you're not tough luck". Really nice way to introduce yourself. Also, why people are constantly so rude?

Turns out Harper is a compound of stereotypes of what the "new woman" should be: ballsy, aggressive, smug, selfish, and always on the right. And obviously, they chose a tiny, teeny little actress who nevertheless will beat to pulp guys twice her size because that's modern entertainment.

A huge step backward. Elsewhere, the homeless woman episode was kind of good as a thorny ethical dilemma.
