After escaping the bottom two the entire season, Sean Spicer finally found himself in jeopardy on Monday’s “Dancing with the Stars” and was eliminated over Lauren Alaina. His partner, Lindsay Arnold, was absent for the second week in a row in the wake of her mother-in-law’s death, but the two connected right after the show.
“She was so proud of how far that we’ve come,” Spicer told “Entertainment Tonight” of their conversation. “She’s obviously disappointed that she couldn’t be here. But I told her, and she knows, that the idea that we were as far we are is because of her hard work, her amazing talent and obviously Jenna [Johnson] the last two weeks carrying me.”

“Dancing with the Stars” is winding down its controversial 28th season. Week eight was “Dance-Off Week” during which six of the seven remaining couples went head-to-head for bonus points to help them stay in the competition and get one step closer to the Mirror Ball Trophy, which will be handed out in just three weeks on November 25. So who won their dance-offs, who lost, and who paid the ultimate price at the end of the night by being eliminated? Find out below in our live blog with all the minute-by-minute developments as they happen.
The night started the way they always do, with each celeb performing a new dance in a previously unlearned dance style. Lauren Alaina and Kate Flannery performed jives. Hannah Brown danced a quickstep. Kel Mitchell got a salsa. James Van Der Beek lucked out with a contemporary number (that style usually results in higher scores). Sean Spicer danced a jazz routine.

“Dancing with the Stars” fans are predicting who will be eliminated tonight in the eighth week of competition, and once again they’re betting on Sean Spicer to be ousted. This isn’t the first time our users have predicted the former White House press secretary to be voted out of office, but he has yet to even come close to elimination. So is his time really up, or is it just wishful thinking?
Spicer is by far the lowest scoring celebrity remaining in the competition. He’s probably the second worst dancer of the entire season, only outperforming basketball star Lamar Odom, who made a valiant effort but never found his footing. But even though Spicer’s scores have stalled — he got 6s from the judges on “Halloween Night” after getting 7s the week before — his fan base has reliably kept him out of harm’s way, so even...

Kate Flannery found herself in the bottom two for the first time on Halloween Night on “Dancing with the Stars.” Fortunately, the judges treated her with a save over Karamo, and so she still has a shot at becoming the show’s oldest female champ.
Jennifer Grey is the current record holder, winning Season 11 with Derek Hough at 50 at the beginning of this decade in 2010. Flannery is 55, so she’d more than edge out Grey. The “Office” star is the oldest contestant left; the other women — Lauren Alaina, Ally Brooke and Hannah Brown — are in their 20s, and the men — Kel Mitchell, Sean Spicer and James Van Der Beek — are in their 40s.

Hannah Brown is in a self-professed “slump” on “Dancing with the Stars,” but Cheryl Burke knows what she needs to do to climb out of it: Get out of her own head.
“I think there’s a lot of pressure for her, but at the end of the day, she needs to remember that it’s all in her head and it’s all the haters. Don’t let the haters get the best of you,” Burke wrote in her “Us Weekly” blog. “I’ve gone through seasons and even though I’m a pro dancer, I’ve messed with my own head so much that I forgot a step myself, and it really is all psychological. She needs to know that she’s an amazing dancer and she needs to embrace it. Even if you have no dance experience, you know when someone’s insecure or when someone’s not.

Karamo Brown‘s “Halloween Night” elimination from “Dancing with the Stars” wasn’t nearly as surprising as Sailor Brinkley-Cook‘s the week before — we saw this one coming — but it was nearly as unjust, according to our readers. Only 10% of fans we polled thought Brinkley-Cook deserved to go, and now only 11% agree with Brown’s ouster. Scroll down for our complete poll results.
Brown was in the bottom two once before, back in week four when he and basketball star Lamar Odom were the unlucky contestants. But Odom had drastically lower scores, so the judges unanimously decided to save Brown from elimination. This time, however, Brown landed at the bottom with Kate Flannery. It was a split decision: Carrie Ann Inaba voted that Brown should stick around, but Bruno Tonioli and then tie-breaker Len Goodman voted to save Flannery, so Brown was out.

Looks like the “Dancing with the Stars” judges have moved on from hosing James Van Der Beek to hosing Hannah Brown. For a couple of weeks, Van Der Beek was getting underscored for his stellar routines, but he’s sort of back on track, so to speak, while Brown is now in the judges’ line of fire, taking another hit on Monday’s Halloween Night.
Though the judges underscored Van Der Beek, they were never overly mean in their assessments, merely giving him tips and pointing out things he needs to improve on (and complaining about a rumba being too passionate). Brown, on the other hand, has been (rightly) criticized for her pageant queen perma-grin since Week 1, but the tough love she’s been getting has progressively gotten tougher.

Karamo got the boot on Monday’s “Dancing with the Stars,” but he still feels like a winner thanks to none other than Sean Spicer.
Before the season started, the “Queer Eye” star temporarily deleted his social media after receiving backlash for defending the former White House press secretary’s controversial casting, saying he’s excited to engage in “respectful conversations” with him. The pair has done just that during the season, and Karamo hopes their friendship will inspire others to be open-minded.
“I’ve grown, I’ve learned stuff, and also, I gotta be honest with you: When this show started, for me, there was backlash because I made a comment about Sean Spicer. And a lot of people told me, ‘You’re wrong, we don’t like you.’ And I just knew in my heart we’re in a place in our country where people are divided, where they’re not talking,...

Karamo is no longer in the running for Mirrorball glory on “Dancing with the Stars” after his elimination on Monday, but he knows exactly who he’s keeping an eye on to win it.
Asked by “Entertainment Tonight” for his winner predictions, Karamo kept it diplomatic and listed a couple of people who’ve been killing it recently. “James Van Der Beek is amazing,” he said. “I think that Ally [Brooke] is amazing. I think that Kel [Mitchell] is really amazing.”
All three received 27s on Monday’s Halloween Night, along with Lauren Alaina, for the highest individual score of the night. But the dark horse the “Queer Eye” star is betting on is — no, not his pal Sean Spicer — but his bottom two foe. “The one that I think is going to surprise people is Kate [Flannery],” Karamo said.

With eight couples left in the competition on “Dancing with the Stars,” “Halloween Night” ended with team dances that split them in half. So who really gave the best performance: Team Trick or Team Treat? Watch the first team routine above, and scroll down to watch the second.
Before the team dances started it was revealed how the teams were “randomly” assigned: by picking objects off a table with the team name written underneath them. I put “randomly” in quotes because I’m still not entirely convinced there was no thumb on the scales given that the highest scoring dancers ended up on one team, while the other team ended up with the lower scoring underdogs.

Team Trick danced a macabre dinner party set to “Somebody’s Watching Me.” Len Goodman thought it was a “lovely mix” of dance styles.

“The Bachelorette” star Hannah Brown got respectable 8s during week six of “Dancing with the Stars,” but the competition has accelerated so quickly that those scores left her second to last on the judges’ leaderboard. She was determined to improve on “Halloween Night,” but the judges served her another dose of tough love. Are they being too hard on her, or should she take their advice to heart? Watch her Halloween jazz dance above.
The judges have faulted Brown before for her smiling pageant persona, which isn’t the right tone to set for every style of dance, so pro partner Alan Bersten tried to mix it up by choreographing a jazz dance in which she would play a beauty queen back from the dead to “Bad Girls” by Donna Summer. It was a jazz number, so there weren’t as many strict choreographic requirements. That made it a perfect...

Oh, what might have been! We’re still waiting for the first 10s on “Dancing with the Stars,” and James Van Der Beek was thisclose to getting them. He would have been perfect had it not been for the damn fog. Watch his (almost) flawless Viennese waltz above.
Van Der Beek handled the samba in week six. That’s the hardest dance style on the whole show, and he nailed it. His pro partner Emma Slater even told him that he allayed her fears about choreographing that style for a celebrity, which is high praise from a seasoned “DWTS” professional. So it should have been smooth sailing for him from that point forward.

Last week’s “Dancing with the Stars” was kind of like a scary movie: Ally Brooke and Sailor Brinkley-Cook surprisingly landed in the bottom two and waited for the judges to drop the axe on one of them. It was Brinkley-Cook who ended up getting killed off, much to everyone’s horror. Well, tonight was “Halloween Night,” but maybe it had a happier ending? Find out below in our live blog with all the minute-by-minute developments as they happen.
Eight contestants went in, but how many of them made it out alive? Kel Mitchell and Sean Spicer both performed jives. Lauren Alaina and the aforementioned Ally Brooke performed tangos — for Lauren it was the Argentine variety. The other four celebs were tasked with jazz (Hannah Brown), rumba (Kate Flannery), paso doble (Karamo Brown) and Viennese waltz (Mirror Ball front-runner James Van Der Beek).

After scoring a 24 for their country samba and getting a ton of feedback from the judges on “Dancing with the Stars”, Hannah Brown and Alan Bersten have a new mindset for Halloween Night.
“This week, I feel like we have something to prove,” Bersten told PeopleTV’s “Reality Check” (watch above).
“It’s sometimes disappointing to hear criticism ever, but the judges are giving me constructive criticism that I’m really going to try to work better to sit in the pocket of the music, stay grounded, and honestly, just have fun,” Brown added. The last part is what the former Bachelorette feels like she sometimes forgets to do on the dance floor. “I think sometimes I’m so focused on what the judges think and how they feel that … I’m not able to commit and have fun. And this week I’m just going to have fun and...

“Queer Eye” star Karamo Brown wasn’t even in the bottom two at the end of last week’s “Dancing with the Stars,” but we think he might be eliminated tonight. That’s according to the combined predictions of “DWTS” fans who have given us their forecasts. But our odds were wrong last week — big time. Will the “Halloween Night” show have another horrific twist ending?
As of this writing Brown gets leading odds of 39/20 of being eliminated. He may not have been in the bottom two last week, but he had the benefit of an emotional contemporary routine inspired by his rocky relationship with his father after coming out of the closet. That was his most personal routine yet, and it earned him his highest scores yet this season, which probably helped him pick up extra votes from the viewing public.
