Members of the Writers Guild of America at Sesame Workshop and management avoided a strike after reaching a tentative agreement on a new five-year collective bargaining agreement, the guild announced on Friday.
According to their press release, the writers, who include members of WGA East and WGA West, won historic jurisdiction and minimum rates for animation and new media programs produced by Sesame, protections against artificial intelligence, paid parental leave benefits and substantial improvements to new media residuals.

Unionized writers at Sesame Workshop have unanimously voted to authorize a potential strike as their negotiations over a new labor contract continue.
Thirty-five workers at the nonprofit organization that produces Sesame Street have greenlit a potential work stoppage to begin on April 24 if a new contract deal isn’t reached by its current expiration date, April 19. The workers, who are members of the Writers Guild of America East and Writers Guild of America West, work on writing Sesame Street, Helpsters and The Not Too Late Show With Elmo.
“The writers that Sesame Workshop hires are deeply committed to the work that we do. Like the Workshop itself, we are mission-driven and child-focused, and we work hard at telling stories that contribute to the Workshop’s curricula inspired by heart, curiosity, community, kindness, diversity, equity, and inclusion,” the union’s negotiating committee said in a statement about the decision. “We are...

As the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences continues to figure out how and when to finally hold this year’s Daytime Emmys — delayed in June due to the WGA strike — it has gone ahead and announced the nominations for this year’s 2nd Annual Children’s & Family Emmys.
There’s no date yet for this year’s Chidren’s & Family Emmys — NATAS is likely waiting for a hopeful soon resolution to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike before firming up dates. But last year, winners were announced during two ceremonies—one focused on creative and technical arts, and the other to performances and programming—at Wilshire Ebell Theatre on December 10 and 11. This year’s Cafe will likely be held around the same time — and NATAS could very well use that timeframe to simultaneously finally hold the Daytime Emmys as well.

If you’re looking for family-friendly programming, you might assume Disney+ is your best choice. But according to the Parents Television and Media Council, families might want to look elsewhere for a safe harbor. The group looked across the streaming landscape to catalog which platforms offered the most TV-g or TV-pg original series.
Interestingly, Apple TV+ was rated the best service for family programming. It offers the largest number of TV-g-rated original programs. Twenty-six out of 139 programs (19%) were rated for general audiences. Only 6% were rated PG. Half (50%) of all original content on AppleTV+ is rated TV-ma.
7-Day Free Trial $6.99 / month apple.com
The worst platform for family-friendly content is Prime Video. Less than 3% of original content is rated TV-g or TV-pg. Prime Video’s content spend has been seemingly erratic, with major funding going to Thursday Night Football, and effects-heavy epics like “The Wheel of Time” or “Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.

Disney Branded Television inked a deal with Moonbug Entertainment for 52 episodes of 7-minute CG series, “Morphle,” based on the YouTube short-form hit My Magic Pet Morphle. It’s the first partnership between Disney and Moonbug, whose properties include the CoComelon kids’ content juggernaut.
The comedy adventure series is slated to debut in 2024 exclusively on Disney+ and Disney Junior globally, excluding China. Under the agreement, Disney will also launch episodes of “My Magic Pet Morphle” on its platforms.
Moonbug was acquired last year in a 3 billion deal by Candle Media, a next-generation media roll-up venture headed by former Disney execs Kevin Mayer and Tom Staggs and backed by private-equity firm Blackstone. Moonbug is headed by CEO René Rechtman, previously Disney’s international head of digital studios.

As the streaming wars have been consumed this spring by the launches of HBO Max and Quibi — with Peacock still to come — another new entrant, Apple TV Plus, recently found reason to celebrate on the awards front.
The Daytime Emmy nominations were finally announced last month by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences after a monthlong delay due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and Apple TV Plus scored an impressive haul for a first-timer. Even though the service has been streaming for only six months, its four kids shows landed a total of 17 nods — placing it ahead of networks like HBO (with 14) in total daytime noms.
Stack that up against established streaming competitors, and Apple has quickly become a contender: Among other streamers in the kids categories, Netflix scored 29 noms from 17 shows, while Amazon picked up 20 noms across 10 shows.
Now comes the Primetime Emmy race, which is administered by NATAS’ L.

Apple TV Plus may have only launched back in November, but it already has plenty of content to keep viewers entertained.
The streaming service is already home to shows including Golden Globe-nominated “The Morning Show,” starring Steve Carell, Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston; “Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet”; and “Oprah’s Book Club.” Apple TV Plus is also bringing on new films to the platform, adding “The Banker” (which was previously delayed amid accusations of historical inaccuracy and sexual abuse against co-producer Bernard Garrett Jr.), starring Anthony Mackie, Samuel L. Jackson and Nicholas Hoult, and the “Beastie Boys Story,” a documentary about the famous rap trio and their rise to fame.
Original Apple TV Plus shows currently available to stream also include “Servant” from director M. Night Shyamalan, “Dickinson” starring Hailee Steinfeld and “Truth Be Told” with Octavia Spencer, Lizzy Caplan and Aaron Paul. “Servant” follows a Philadelphia couple mourning the...
