doctor who the VR game..
james-renick2 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
For what it is, and knowing what it is, its not bad.. certainly not the worst Doctor Who or associated video game I've ever seen (and there were a few bad mobiles ones that come to mind.)

Is it an episode? No, more like the little shorts that used to happen in series 5-7, but without their charm, and aimed at a younger audience.

Synopsis (spoiler?): the player character helps the doctor take a runaway/lost child back to its home planet.

Its cute, potentially fun, a little cringe, and if you don't have a VR headset you can probably find a playthrough over on youTube somewhere.. experience and results may vary.

5/10, for concept and whimsy, plus excellent voice acting by Jodie.

This isn't doctor who. Please stop. Season 12 was a good season, then I watched this. Did chibs write this? I think that it's worse than everything he's written.

A step up.

Warning: Spoilers
Wow. This is such a significant change to anything else available to watch. You've just been in a spaceship accident, and the Thirteenth Doctor has taken you aboard the Tardis to recouperate. She introduces you to an Engarian named Volta, who is essentially a sentient ball of energy. An group, SPUDS (Special Positron Undercover Death Squad), has a mission - to destroy anything that poses a danger to the universe, as it turns out that Engarians can become black holes. It's the Doctor's and your mission to return him home, before SPUDS destroy him. The plot is not the most inventive, nor is it particularly unique, but it's not meant to be. It serves it's purpose exceptionally, which is to showcase the game itself. I watched a non-interactive version on the official Doctor Who YouTube channel, and I am really curious to see how the version on Steam operates.

The Doctor was really fun to be in presence of, and it was a thrilling experience. I did feel though as if she was talking rather generically, but it's a trade off as this is only twelve minutes long. Volta is so cute, and adorable. He changes colour depending on mood, his expressions simply and chibified, yet so expressive, just brimming with emotion.

The graphics are so immersive. Unfortunately my Samsung S7 Edge couldn't render the detail very well, and it did look blurry, however I expect it to look so much better on a high end device. You can see so much effort has been put into it and it shows. The colours are breathtakingly beautiful, and they are just so sharp and cinematic. Bold pinks, purples, reds, blues - they are so vivid! Motion Capture was used to create the Thirteenth Doctor's NPC, and although it doesn't look amazing, as it looks cartoonish and just a little bit creepy, it great to see that Motion Capture has evolved since films such as The Polar Express and Disney's A Christmas Carol. The music by Segun Akinola is fantastic, and resonates with the story very well indeed.

This is definitely a spectacle, and you must go watch it. It's in full VR, so you can turn your camera to look at any angle of the Tardis and it will look astonishing.

Umm... This is a no for me. It looks like claymation. I don't know why i watched this. This is so much worse than the timeless children! Why is the timeless children at a 5.6/10, anyways?
