This is one of MANY shorts included on the bonus disc for "A Streetcar Named Desire". It's all about the music of Alex North--and his score for this movie. North is also the man responsible for many great scores--such as "Spartacus", "Cleopatra" and "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?".
Experts talk about how North's score helped to support the psychological portraits of the characters and what it all meant to the characters. This is very unusual and great for musicians and cinemaniacs who want to learn to appreciate an important but often ignored part of a film--the soundtrack.
"North and the Music of the South" is only about 9 minutes long. So, even if you don't like the short, you're only out a tiny, tiny portion of your life--so what do you have to lose?! Give it a shot.
By the way, North was nominated for 14 Oscars and only won one--an honorary Oscar late in his life. I guess it's better late than never!
