Love the fashion, hate the songs
mclellan-katie123 April 2020
Okay I love a musical but if you aren't ready to listen to a full chorus line every show.... it's just too much. BUT THE FASHION I love and the acting is good. The story lines are alright, love the drag element and the shots of NYC are great. I just think if they cut a couple of the songs it would be better.

The Riverdale spin-off NOBODY ASKED FOR
uygarates7 February 2020
This show is literally about NOTHING. I wanted watch this cause I used to love Riverdale. I don't care about fashion or dreams whatever. 41 minutes of clothes and Riverdale references but nothing else.

Annoying
littleblue-414501 May 2020
This show is okay. It's fluff and cotton candy and a mindless distraction. However, if I could cut Jorge's character out I would. He is a whiny brat. His voice is like nails on a chalk board and he's constantly complaining in every episode.

Cute!
ISTY-688797 February 2020
I've only seen the pilot so far but I like the vibe and visual aesthetics of the show. I appreciate that they don't make Instagram or social media a theme or prominent because it makes it really timeless and focused on their real lives. I feel like it's the world of the comic book but with a peppering of modernism. I also love Lucy Hale. She's adorable.

It's fun!

I love it, it's mindless fun and has cool fashion and takes place in NYC. Does it have a serious plot like, not really? If you want some fluff in your life , this is a great show.

Seen it before
tikcol10 February 2020
Overall the first episode was not all bad. However the fashion storyline is nothing more than The Devil wears Prada. The proposal at the end was very predictable.as her response will be. She will either say no which will end the relationship and he will go off to Philadelphia or she will accept be miserable with her decision for a few episodes and the the same results as first scenario will take place.

The terrible Riverdale spin-off nobody wanted
POIguy4 April 2020
I watch both Riverdale and Sabrina, so when I heard they were doing another spin-off in the Archieverse I was pretty excited. Then I watched the Pilot for Katy Keene and was greatly disappointed. Katy Keene is just such a stupid show with the worst characters and plot. I know I'm not the target audience (i'm a male in his 20s), but this was just god-awful. The main character is an assistant at some department store who is great at designing clothes but dreams of being a. . . personal shopper? Dumb. Her boyfriend KO is only in like 2 scenes and is shirtless most of the time (guess that tells you the target audience). The other characters were just so loud and obnoxious outside of Josie. This show seems like it was written by and for 11 year old girls. NOT something that should be on the CW. Don't watch this stupid show.

What's everybody's problem?
ciara_mendez25 February 2020
This show isn't Riverdale it's a SPIN OFF. If you truly are into riverdale you'd see Josie is a singer who has brighter ambitions than staying in riverdale. I'm happp this show is more glam NYC , along with showing the true struggles and life styles of us New Yorkers. I personally like it and think it's cute. Plus a gay lead that also plays drag? I love it ! This show is what we needed ! So stop comparing two totally different shows to eachother.

Frustrating
mmevanille-530971 April 2020
Genre: Light situational drama

I usually like shows such as this, Bold Type, Pretty Little Liars, Gossip Girl... all members of a similar genre, a group of friends trying to make inroads into establishing careers/futures and supporting each other through tribulations.

Unfortunately Katy Keene has borrowed some of the worst parts of the genre from Riverdale. It is completely unrealistic. With these kinds of drama's often you need to suspend disbelief a little bit, especially with inter-personal situations. But Katy Keene turns suspending disbelief into a fairy tale, and then tries to pretend that its real.

Conflict emerges, often which is not a real conflict. The decisions and challenges of the characters are not believable, therefore it ruins any sense of connecting with the characters. Even if you start to feel invested in their story, a miracle promotion, opportunity that defies reality or a conversation that sparks the continuance of the plot point as subtle as a sledgehammer, awaits you the next turn. Its a world where problems are trivial or trivialized, everyone gets what they want, nobody learns anything and everyone is as dimwitted as two slices of Bologna.

I tried to get into it, I really did, but after half a dozen episodes it just did not hold to the standard of many other titles with similar premises that have a much better cast, better writers and a more believable narrative.

3/10.

So much hate
brandonbray-3569829 February 2020
For a show that just started.....I love it so far. There's by far worse shows on the CW. But I love me some Riverdale, the 100 and now Katy Keene. I want wild cats and secret circle and vampire diaries back tho. That's when CW was actually good. I use to watch everything on CW. Use to watch arrow and flash....but then I feel like they started lacking. And then it became DC central and I'm just like dumb. Minus out all the DC bull crap and maybe CW could be what it was once. Thank you Katy Keene for reminding me of the good ole days of the CW. P.s. I'm a dude not some chick complaining about DC and no I don't like marvel either.

An Upbeat Show Mostly For The YA Crowd
atlasmb11 February 2020
From the comic book world of "Riverdale" comes the New York City story of Katy Keene (Lucy Hale)---a plucky, upbeat, young woman. She works at Lacy's Department Store for an imperious personal shopper, Gloria (the talented Katherine LaNasa), but she dreams of being a designer.

This series shares the rich photography of "Riverdale" and its strong production values, but its tone is less sinister. In Katy's world, there are setbacks, but all can be overcome.

The theme of the show revolves around the dreams of Katy and her friends. Each of them has a "day job", but they all aspire to greatness---on Broadway, on the social scene, in the fight game, or as a popular singer.

Ashleigh Murray reprises her role as Josie, former leader of The Pussycats in Riverdale.

CW has created another show with strong appeal for YAs, especially females, with its emphasis on dance, music, and fashion. Fortunately, KK delivers in all three areas. There is plenty of talent in the cast and crew.

Katy herself is so indomitable she almost has a superhero vibe. Is it coincidence that she wears a caped ensemble when we first see her at work?

If the series can include enough music to make it Glee-worthy, and keep the storylines engaging, despite its comic book genes, it will be a fun watch. Lucy Hale is a strong "core" to build around.

Amended 4/24/20: Unfortunately, as the season progresses it becomes preachy, with a focus on politically correct viewpoints, which is ironic, because the characters (in the main) are unprincipled. The original energy of the series becomes bogged down in machinations that undermine its vitality and freshness.

I liked the first few episodes
The Jorge storyline is just crap. And it's ongoing. And it needs to stop. Snooooze. Potentially could be the actor who is ruining it. I'm unsure.

There's now too much singing. I don't find it cute.

It's dragging. Same storylines over and over. They literally just do the same thing everyday. Some sort of clothing emergency. Sing some crappy song. Record producer is good then not then good again. Ughhhh. Something else needs to happen!

The good, the bad, and the pretty in NYC.
TxMike14 February 2020
I first became aware of Lucy Hale when she starred in "Life Sentence", the brief TV series about a girl who is dying, decides to live life to the fullest, even getting married in Paris. Until she found out she was cured.

Here she is Katy Keene, a young single professional in NYC, living with a strange mix of other young and single people trying to make it. She has a long-time boyfriend who works as a bouncer, they love each other, but when he proposes Katy isn't sure she is ready for that.

In 1961 an entertainment executive proclaimed that "TV is a vast wasteland." While that isn't necessarily true, most TV shows actually do fall into that category. "Katy Keene", the show, is a so-so fluff of a TV series, featuring mostly very pretty actors who are capable of pulling off their roles. It is made in the usual formula, each episode has several themes going on and the programming features one of them for a minute, the next for a minute, and soon there is the commercial break.

There is absolutely nothing new here, if you like Lucy Hale who is very attractive, then you'll like this show. But to be honest it is just fluff entertainment, something to watch when you have absolutely nothing else that you want to do and it is too early for bedtime.

But then the very same can be said for most TV shows.

Cuteee
urban-irina816 May 2020
It's a cute show about love and friendship. It dosn't really deserve 10 stars, but I had to help after reading those awful comments. Also, I think Jonny Beauchamp(Jorge) is a great actor (you should see him in Penny Dreadful). He is playing a dificult role here and he is amazing. And I am so glad to see Lucy Hale as Katy, she is the right girl for the role.

wish it was more about the original characters
dhruvitamboli10 January 2021
I wish it haven't had anything to do about riverdale characters i mean there was really no need for kevin or hiram its just don't make any sense for me and how many more time josie is going to say that i m from riverdale this is not about riverdale this is about katy and her dream there is no need to bring hiram in this and if that's gonna happen I mean hiram is going to be in this one then this is also going as boring as riverdale last season. But still i ignore all riverdale stuff and watch how katy and jorge are shining. And why on earth there so much of musical i just hate that parts always skips them because her to watch a series not musicals which are also not making any sense like they never make any sense in riverdale and hiram in this one.

I knew to keep my expectations low, but CAOS was so good so I had hopes this Riverdale spin-off would be good too. But I don't know how but this show made Riverdale look better.

Sweet, adorable and fun
loveevermoredesigns15 February 2020
I really enjoyed the pilot. I had not heard the series was coming out, it was a nice surprise. I loved, loved, loved the fashion aspect of this, the chemistry between the cast is charming and warm. If you are looking for fun, lighthearted entertainment that will make you smiles with a splash of New York this is the show for you. I adore Lucy Hale as Katy, watching this left me with a smile.

I could do without the singing and several actors, but still I really enjoyed Katy Keene.
rg799121 September 2020
The singing in this isn't very good tbh. Some characters were difficult to like because they're so self-absorbed. I really wish this had less singing because the singing scenes were cringe a lot of the time. I love Katy Keene though, and KO. Jorge began to grow on me, but it was rough because he's such a brat and always making everything about himself. I could've done with less of his story. He's very ungrateful and has gotten away with acting like a petulant child because he's gay, which contradicts what he claims to want. It was confusing. I would've liked to see some real personal growth and him doing something for someone else, without it really being about him or Ginger. I liked Ginger much more. Pepper and Josie were similar in that they both had some moments where I thought Wow, I don't really like this person. I didn't entirely warm up to them. The only gpod and nice characters were Katy and KO. I even liked Jorge's family more than the rest of the cast. Despite the fact that these characters aren't the best and the singing was mediocre and at times very cringe, I still really liked the show because of Katy's story. This show tried to make it too much about these other hard-to-like characters, when more of the focus should've been on Katy. I really disliked Xandra, her weak step brother and their dad, but that's the point right? Lucy Hale's Katy Keene is really the only thing this show had going for it that kept me watching. I wish there was going to be a Season 2, mainly because I'd like to see how Katy's life plays out, but I can live without it.

so annoying
JoeyLeblanc857 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I watched the pilot and it was so cringe, they simple don't talk or act like normal people, lucy hale's character is the most annoying one, all her lines are spoken like she is happy on pills, besides that, every time her friends were in trouble she was like "you need a new outfit" and guess what? it didn't help. when josie was rejected by the record company it was sooo unreal, i mean, they didn't even knew her and acted so disrespectful in order to make her cry when they could simply have rejected her and walked out. It's like the producers wanted it to be so cringe, the actors really can talk and act like normal people but it seems like cw's writers asked them to act and talk like happy-sad-goodlooking-bombshells

Loved everything about it!
grb-879017 February 2020
Last night's "Katy Keene" premiere provided well-executed light, upbeat entertainment-something we sorely need right now. It is a "pastel" show to complement Riverdale's darker palette. Is it realistic, probably not, but if I want realism I'll read the newspaper or turn on the nightly news. it is escapism in the best sense of the word. And while it is clearly aimed at a younger demographic it works just as well for those of us still young at heart.

The biggest issue....
WhenAmyMetSalad18 February 2020
The biggest and main issue I have with this show is not its DWP story line but the lack of the Pussycats. I get it Josie is going solo but then she is no more Josie and the Pussycats and to me that is a disservice to the character and to their fans. That's like Scooby Doo without Shaggy and the rest of the gang or Harry Potter books without Hermione and Ron.

Aside from the lack of the 'Cats' we seem to be entering more Glee ripoff with musical numbers in each episode. Albeit it worked for Glee it did NOT work so well for Riverdale and I'll be damned if it works here. Hopefully I can endure the show long enough to change my mind about what makes this series bad.
