MGM has attached “The Aeronauts” director Tom Harper to its romance “Forever” — a project that’s been in development at the studio for eight decades.
Jonathan Glickman is producing “Forever,” based on a romantic novella by Mildred Cram (“Love Affair”), which focuses on two lovers from the past who are reincarnated in the modern world.
“Forever” was originally published in 1935 and purchased for MGM by the studio’s first head of production, Irving Thalberg, for his wife Norma Shearer. Thalberg died in 1936 and story has never made its way to the big screen. Hal Ashby was attached to direct at one point during the 1970s.
Harper also produced “Aeronauts,” which starred Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones. Harper’s feature credits include “Wild Rose,” “The Woman in Black: Angel of Death,” “The Scouting Book for Boys” and “War Book.” His TV credits include the 2016 BBC series “War and Peace” along with segments for “Peaky Blinders,...

Chicago – When we last saw Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones together, they were portraying husband and wife in the Stephen Hawking bio “The Theory of Everything.” Now they are 19th Century high-flying hot air balloonists in “The Aeronauts,” opening December 6th, 2019, and directed by Tom Harper.

In 1862 Britain, hot air balloon mania is in the air. Amelia Rennes (Felicity Jones) is a carnival barker style “Aeronaut,” who likes to draw crowds to her ballooning spectacles. Enter James Glaisher (Eddie Redmayne), a weather scientist who needs to fly with her to determine theoretical climate patterns. This mismatched pair will make history, soaring higher into the atmosphere than any other previous flyers. Based on a true story and adapted by Jack Throne, director Tom Harper takes his characters on a rousing adventure, thrilling and beautifully rendered. After a short theatrical run,...

Written by Nicole Taylor (Three Girls) and directed by Tom Harper (The Scouting Book for Boys), Wild Rose tells the raw tale of Rose-Lynn (Jessie Buckley), a young Glaswegian woman with troubles she has yet to deal with, who seeks a life in Nashville among the Country Music scene. Unable to claw her way out of the life she finds herself in, she finds herself desperately looking towards a world she feels unable to reach.
This is a relatable and rough-around-the-edges story of finding yourself and coming to terms with life and all its torn pages and sharp corners. Rose-Lynn is troubled and immature, unsure of how to handle her children, the relationship with her mother, Marion (Julie Walters), or how to deal with life. She...

If Jack Thorne was considered hot property before Harry Potter and The Cursed Child, penning the adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s wildly successful story has only ensured Thorne is one of the most in-demand writers on the other side of the pond. Soon after breaking onto the scene with British teen drama Skins, the screenwriter enjoyed a streak that comprised award-winning contributions to This Is England ’88, The Fades, Don’t Take My Baby and This Is England ’90.
Imagine our excitement, then, now that Deadline has relayed news that Jack Thorne was inked a deal to collaborate with War & Peace helmer Tom Harper for The Aeronauts, a true-life period drama said to revolve around two enthused hot air balloonists who scaled higher than anyone else in the 19th century. Both Thorne and Harper are currently in possession of a spec script, meaning this project won’t be ready to fire up production anytime soon.

An expert cast and dynamic direction lend momentum to this pointed Whitehall drama about the fallout of a missile strike
The latest collaboration between writer Jack Thorne and director Tom Harper (The Scouting Book for Boys) very smartly updates Fail Safe from 1964. A group of Whitehall mandarins gather under no-nonsense Sophie Okonedo to role play the national security consequences of a Pakistani nuclear strike on India; inevitably, what begins as a jolly lunchtime skive soon turns deadly serious.
Theatricality looms, but the variation of voices and viewpoints among the expert cast generates a rat-a-tat momentum: Thorne crafts rhetorical flourishes for veteran Antony Sher, agonised lefty Shaun Evans and a shellshocked Kerry Fox. Harper’s framing is always dynamic, and often pointed: each glimpse of life passing blithely by this room’s only window provides a sobering reminder of the extent to which we’re at the mercy of those who would govern us.

Director: Tom Harper; Screenwriters: Jon Croker; Starring: Phoebe Fox, Helen McCrory, Jeremy Irvine; Running time: 98 mins; Certificate: 15
Almost three years after The Woman In Black successfully translated Susan Hill's haunting novel to the big screen, a sequel has emerged that's scary in the sense that it makes you fear for the sanity of those who green-lit this film on such a threadbare script bereft of ideas and invention.
Set in World War II during the Blitz, 40 years after the previous tale, The Woman in Black: Angel of Death successfully conjures up an earthy yet ethereal atmosphere that instantly evokes its predecessor. There's something beautifully creepy about the English countryside at night, which director Tom Harper conveys well.
Yet there's little to arouse our interest beyond an aesthetic level. The story revolves around young schoolteacher Eve (Phoebe Fox) looking after a group of evacuated children in that familiar haunted...

The Woman in Black: Angel Of Death continues the original film’s story: four decades have passed since Arthur Kipps, as played by Daniel Radcliffe, travelled to Eel Marsh House.
The film is set up in 1941 as bombs rain down on London during the Blitz of World War II, a group of school children are evacuated with Eve, their young and beautiful schoolteacher, to the safety of the English countryside. Meet the spooky new trailer for Hammer's upcoming The Woman In Black: Angel Of Death...
There are some key faces missing from Hammer's upcoming production, The Woman In Black: Angel Of Death. Following the success of The Woman In Black, there's no Daniel Radcliffe for a start, nor is director James Watkins back behind the camera. Jane Goldman hasn't penned the screenplay this time either.
But then The Woman In Black: Angel Of Death is set to be a different story, set during a different time. Taking place 40 years after the first haunting at Eel Marsh House, this time a bunch of children evacuated during World War II arrive there. And as you might expect, there are spooky goings on.
Tom Harper has taken on the director's chair this time, having previously directed The Scouting Book For Boys, along with episodes of Peaky Blinders, This Is England '86 and Demons.

The setting of “War Book” couldn’t be further from the sun-dappled Norfolk countryside of Tom Harper’s debut, “The Scouting Book for Boys” (beloved here at The Playlist, but little seen at home in the U.K., and even littler seen in the U.S.). The action (if we can call it that) of his sophomore effort is almost entirely confined to a single room, where a group of mid-level British civil servants, standing in for more important government ministers, run through the protocol required in the event of a nuclear attack. Over the course of three days, they debate the appropriate humanitarian and military responses to a hypothetical crisis, and as the imaginary stakes are raised, what initially starts out as glib political horse-trading turns into something with far greater moral and ethical weight—who should get priority in the event that medical supplies are rationed, whether the U.

Venice - NBC's "The Office" rang frequent laughs from Dwight Schrute's beet farm, with glimpses of backwards Cousin Mose and his feral antics proving particularly fertile ground for comedy ("And as of this morning, we are completely wireless here at Schrute Farms, but as soon as I find out where Mose hid all the wires, we'll get all that power back on.") This kind of vaguely unsettling boys-on-the-farm vibe is played straight in "The Goob", a character piece that has atmosphere to spare, and whose minimal plot is helped along by the happily original setting; this might be the first film shot in Norfolk to premiere at Venice. Self-described as "a psychological Western" and set largely on farmland of sorts in the flat formerly marshy Fens in the East of England (think the reclaimed bits of the Everglades without the redeeming features of exotic wildlife or sunshine), The Goob is...

The newly revitalized Hammer Films have had some big successes ("Let Me In," "The Woman In Black"), less well received productions ("The Resident," "The Quiet Ones") and for their next trick, the studio is hoping a sequel can put another movie into the win column. The Daniel Radcliffe-starring "The Woman In Black" was a surprise critical and audience hit when it was released a couple of years ago, and while Radcliffe hasn't returned for the followup, "The Woman In Black: Angel Of Death" is aiming to carry on the spooky flame. Jeremy Irvine and Phoebe Fox take the lead roles this time around, with Tom Harper ("The Scouting Book For Boys") behind the camera. And the story kicks off forty years after the events of the first "The Woman In Black" with WWII looming, and the spirit of Eel Marsh House looming once again. The setting offers some interesting ideas,...

So as we anticipate what Brent has been up to since the end of the BBC hit comedy, here's what the cast have done since:
Ricky Gervais
Ricky Gervais played the lead role as David Brent - the embarrassing, toe-curling and cringeworthy boss of company Wernham Hogg, devoid of self-awareness but poised with an unwavering love for the paper merchants he manages.
Gervais went on to create comedy Extras with Stephen Merchant, which was co-produced by the BBC and HBO and aired between 2005 and 2007. Gervais played ambitious actor Andy Millman, afflicted with a useless agent played by Merchant. Guest stars have included Patrick Stewart, Samuel L Jackson, Ben Stiller and Kate Winslet.
In 2009, Gervais starred in, wrote and directed his feature comedy debut The Invention of Lying.

Even though the horizon of cinema.s future is dotted with highly fantastical young adult novel adaptations like The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and The Maze Runner, there is more than enough room in film for children who don.t spend their novelized lives within dystopian worlds sharing space with mythological creatures. If Judy Blume can finally get the Tiger Eyes adaptation she.d been waiting for, then let.s open the floodgates for more humanized Ya fare. Deadline reports Lionsgate is doing just that by hiring English screenwriter Jack Thorne to adapt the critically adored Wonder, the heart-unraveling debut from author Raquel Jaramillo, under the pseudonym R.J. Palacio. Though the only produced script Thorne has written was 2009.s The Scouting Book for Boys, he.s been all over British television, writing several episodes of the teen drama Skins and the apocalyptic horror The Fades. Thorne is a BAFTA-winning screenwriter and playwright, whose credits include The Scouting Book For Boys, A Long Way Down, Blood Red Road, Mortimer Green, and the UK TV shows This Is England and Skins. The follow-up to this year’s haunted house chiller The Woman In Black has landed a director in the shape of Tom Harper. Harper is known in the UK for his work directing TV shows like The Scouting Book For Boys and Misfits, for which he was BAFTA-nominated.
The sequel, The Woman In Black: Angel of Death, is set to take place 40 years after the original during World War II when Eel Marsh House receives a bucketload of pint-sized guests in the shape of evacuated children. No doubt they’ll get up to all sorts of mischief to piss off the lady of the house – rearranging her petticoats and using oil-based crayons on the wall.
Jon Croker, who worked as story editor on the first film, has written the screenplay in cahoots with production companies Hammer and Talisman. It is based on an idea by Susan Hill, author of The Woman In Black.
