Rowoon and Jo Bo-Ah are back, and it’s really shocking that these two stunning actors haven’t been paired with each other previously. The fantasy genre is so popular in the Korean industry, and it’s always a blend of all things fun, drama, and romance that makes it extremely entertaining. Destined With You definitely feels similar to some of our favorites like Goblin, My Roommate Is A Gumiho, and Hotel Del Luna. The first episode is quite intriguing, with an interesting premise and random connections that make us ready to dive into this world immediately. Destined With You promises curses, wooden boxes, bloody hands, and, of course, soul-mate-level romance that stems from generational connections.

The biggest fantasy K-drama to premiere in recent years was tvN’s and Netflix’s Alchemy of Souls. While the Alchemy of Souls Season 2 finale tied up some loose ends, fans hope for more. But an Alchemy of Souls Season 3 is off the table.

When the Cannes Film Festival lineup was announced on April 14, Twitter positively exploded with excitement over the news that Lee Ji-eun would make her Riviera debut with Hirokazu Kore-eda’s Broker in Competition. She may now be well poised for crossover success with her first commercial film.
The first film from Kore-eda since the Palme d’Or winning Shoplifters in 2018 is also his first movie to be made in Korea. After years of growing one of the world’s strongest local entertainment industries with high quality product, a sophisticated audience and a box office that consistently ranks among the Top 5 international markets, South Korea seemed to suddenly burst into global consciousness with Bong Joon-ho’s smash 2019 hit Parasite. This was the first-ever foreign language film to win the Best Picture Oscar, as well as, shockingly, the first time the country scored an International Feature nomination, much less a prize.
Hollywood execs, box office watchers, and festival curators have long had their eyes on Korea, but even with such confirmed talent as Bong (who made cult hit Snowpiercer in 2013 and Netflix’s Okja in 2017), Park Chan-wook, Lee Chang-dong and Kim Ki-duk, mainstream worldwide awareness was not especially rampant.
One company that has arguably tipped the scales is Cj Enm. In 2019, a local film it released, Extreme Job, grossed more than Avengers: Endgame in the market.
