At his best, Louis Theroux is an outstanding interviewer. Here, he investigates a longtime taboo of society - severe post natal depression and psychosis in new mothers. The parents and psychiatric staff show amazing courage in deciding to speak openly on a very complex and personal issue. Theroux obviously loves babies, so he is a natural in that regard, but he has also put in an extraordinary amount of work in gaining interviewees' trust. For example, one woman actually overdoses, and he follows up with her to ask how it happened, and what happened after that. He tries not to sugar-coat their recovery, although it's clear some women are excellent at covering up how they really feel. The most glamorous Mum with the Instagram photos is the one with the most serious illness. I hope this program will help people in the same situation realise they're not alone and that there are plenty of other Mums who are struggling, too.
