"The fly, fresh from the manure heap, sees the tea table"
It's one of Charles Urban's science shorts, concerning itself with the fly. The fly, we are informed, is a nasty fellow, living on manure, sugar and rotting fish. It carries many diseases and, worst of all, is a hideous fellow in close-up. We should learn to love the spider, the wasp and the bat, all of whom loce to eat the disgusting insect.
Charles Urban was one of the earliest and most successful magnates of the cinema. Not only did he produce and direct many films, such as this long-running series of science shorts, his Kinemacolour was an early and moderately successful competitor in color movies for almost a decade. Apparently he had it in for the fly, judging by this movie.
