One of the scariest critters so far
redmaxdrive23 September 2008
Warning: Spoilers
I was blown away by the creature in this episode. VERY scary! That thing was so far outside my frame of reference I just started thinking of it as a Demon. I couldn't think of a better name for it. And the babies, while cute, I dubbed Demonspawn. Some things are better left alone, and these animals are an excellent example of that axiom. And the fight between the Demon and the Gorgonopsid was GREAT! The past (Gorgonopsid) battling the future (Demon) with the present (humanity) standing witness to it. You won't see THAT on Jurassic Fight Club! As for Helen, I REALLY don't like her anymore. Not only is she conniving and treacherous, but she's become contemptuous toward her own species. That is just not right. Something needs to be done about her and FAST. As long as she's running loose, the team is in trouble.

I hope you found my comment helpful, and I hope you enjoy this wonderful British import. I'm looking forward to at least 5 seasons of this show.

The arrival of posthistoric monsters
Tweekums28 April 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Over the course of the series we have seen a variety of creatures that have come from the distant past; this time we get one from the distant future. This new creature is highly intelligent and appears to have evolved from bats. Helen turns up again with information about the creatures; it may be from the future but it arrived via the Precambrian period… having followed her to the present. Nick Cutter is adamant that unlike previous creatures these ones must be killed and the anomaly between the future and Precambrian eras discovered to prevent them from changing history. Once the creature in the present is dealt with Nick, Helen and a squad of Special Forces return to the past and make some startling discoveries concerning the camp they found in the first episode. Once back it becomes apparent that something has changed; one of the regulars is nowhere to be scene and nobody who stayed in the present has any knowledge of this character.

This episode was a good end to the first season of 'Primeval'. I liked the fact that we finally get a creature from the distant future. This creature was suitably frightening and well designed… the way it operated was a clear nod to the film 'Predator'; especially when we see the world through the creature's eyes. The scene where one of these creatures fights a dinosaur in the Precambrian era is particularly impressive. The ending provided a good cliff-hanger that should leave viewers keen to see whether the changes can be fixed or if there were any other changes. The cast do a solid job; when the series started I was a little unsure about some of the characters but over the course of the six episode I grew to like them. Overall this was an exciting episode, possibly the best of the series so far, and it left me keen to watch season two.

Lucy Brown aka Claudia Brown 10 out of 10
doctorcrichton29 June 2007
I just want to say Lucy Brown is excellent.... I really liked her character, her and her place in the plot. I thought she was great and I went to all of the trouble of registering with this site just to say that! And what I'm giving 10 out of 10 is her. I hear she is single and living in London.. Well if she fancies a date with a real professor...just a few years older then she knows where I am!! : )

I cannot believe the last writer doesn't like her acting... I thought she added a real believable dynamic and very interesting character to the entire series, fully believable and someone I cared about as well with interest. I saw Lucy Brown in Sharpe's Challenge and she was excellent in that as well. I cannot comprehend such a view as her being abad actress. It really makes my head spin to even conceive or anyone thinking such a thing. I am dumfounded. I dare say she could play anything in the Shakeperean cannon if she wished,. I despair at such lightly thought out personal prejudices ..... She was absolutely great and the best character in it for me. Totally well done Lucy Brown..... Love from me.More of the same!

First and best Masterpiece in Primeval history
nasimon24 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
If we would compare this episode to others this would be first with no doubt. This is the perfectly balanced work of everything-humor, complexity and at some points even horror. The entire first season features a new type of anomaly or creature in every episode. In this one team has to deal with "Future predator".Interesting concept of creature-instead of being big and powerful it is stealthy and deadly. Echolocation also has some interesting outcomes."Predators" will be seen through the whole series and will be determining in some events. In this episode Helen Cutter(Juliet Aubrey) starts being...weird.Yeah, she was certainly an interesting person before, but you always were able to say "It's because she is a scientist" and you would be right. But now Helen is doing very strange stuff. She is possessed with the idea of finding future and changing it will be her mission in the next two seasons. However, the episode is not dark. There are a lot of really good jokes. And the perfect play of Andrew Lee Potts(as Connor Temple) and Hannah Spirit(as Abby Maitland) only makes it better. They also give much better lovestory then Nick and Claudia(in my opinion). Back to future predators. It's also Magnum Opus of first season visuals. These creatures look so alive compared to Gorgonopsid or anything before. You almost feel scared of future where exists something like that. Even with better graphics, other episodes weren't able to create experience like that. This episode has one more interesting point. There is a question at the end of it: What happened to Claudia Brown? So, feel free to guess because no matter how important it is, the answer would be never said. I personally think about it as a good point, because it is good ground for theories which won't make the story worse anyways. My rating for it is 10 out of 10.I basically can't think of a reason to make it less. I watched this episode trice-twice in my mother language(Russian) and ones on English.Original sounds of course much better. I recommend it to everyone whatever you like.

"Who would win in a straight fight between Wolverine & Spider-Man?" OK final episode of season one.
poolandrews18 June 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Primeval: #1.6 starts as Helen Cutter (Juliet Aubrey) contacts Stephen (James Murray) with vital information about an anomaly, she says she wants to meet up with Nick (Douglas Henshall) & the home office people Claudia (Lucy Brown) & Lester (Ben Miller). Everyone agrees & Helen says that an anomaly has opened but instead of the past it's a gateway to the future & a grotesque creature has come through, a creature which needs to kill to feed & has no problems using us humans as it's food source. However that's not the only problem it's presence causes as since it came from the future it has the ability to change the present & past & alter history in a very unpleasant way...

The sixth & final episode from the first season of this made-for-British TV sci-fi adventure series was directed by Jamie Payne & is another decent way to pass 45 minutes but isn't anything special or particularly memorable. The script by Adrian Hodges follows the same sort of pattern as the previous five episodes in that it seems to rip-off it's central premise from a big budget Hollywood flick & in this case it would appear to be top action/horror/sci-fi film Predator (1987) which Primeval #1.6 seems to 'borrow' from. From the ugly superior predator to the fact it hunts humans to the fact that it can camouflage in any environment to the fact that it 'sees' in a silly blue toned heat sensory vision thing seem very familiar plot devices, the ending is also a bit of a rip-off of Jurassic Park (1992) but that's just me being picky I suppose. I wasn't sure about the cliffhanger ending either, I don't know if there is going to be a second season but even if there is your going to have to wait a long time to see this episode resolved. I've watched all six episode of Primeval now & I have to say I have rarely seen a TV series where I care so little about the character's, I simply don't like a single person in this show & that makes it incredibly hard to care about anything that's going on. Nick Cutter is a bland hero, Helen is one of the most unlikeable & annoying character's in it, Claudia Brown doesn't seem to do anything & Stephen, Abby & Connor just stand around & occasionally speak for exposition purposes or get into trouble so Nick can 'save' them. As a whole Primeval is fun & has impressive CGI computer monsters but it's forgettable, you have to see them all in order for the continuous story to make sense & the individual episode story lines just feel too familiar, worth watching if there's nothing else on but not much else.

It looks like Primeval had a fair amount of money spent on it & again it's worth repeating that the special effects are mightily impressive for a British TV show, the predator type creature in this episode looks great & would probably scare the younger audience members. As usual it's well made with decent production values, the acting is OK although I still think Lucy Brown is terrible.

Primeval #1.6 is an OK end to an OK series, although having said that it's not technically the end since it finishes on a cliffhanger which will probably be resolved at the start of season two if it ever gets made. Worth a watch I suppose as mindless light hearted fun but not much else.
