Sweet festive viewing brimming with sweet nostalgia.

Warning: Spoilers
Compo, Cleggy and Seymour are up to their usual antics, Compo is desperate to drag Nora Batty under the mistletoe and have his wicked way with her. Marina is desperately trying to smuggle her Christmas present to Howard, avoiding the unwanted attention of his vinegary wife Pearl, and a random Santa Clause is randomly roaming the village.

Thora Hird made these early episodes in my opinion, Edie's attempts at social climbing, her constant put downs on her poor husband, and her awkward coffee mornings were simply brilliant. Thora was a hugely loved actress.

Summer wine conjures up some wonderful memories from my childhood, such a light and funny show, as always it was Howard and Marina that made it, Jean Fergusson and Robert Fyfe were simply magical together, a great duo.

Great episode, I loved Compo's roof top dance, he was such a great performer.

Really good fun, 8/10

Merry Christmas, Father Christmas

This would be the first festive episode with Seymour as part of the trio after he was introduced in the previous year's Christmas special. Uncle of the Bride.

Marina has bought a present for Howard but needs Clegg's help to hand it to Howard without Pearl finding out. As always Pearl always pops up unexpected and Clegg is not clever enough to talk his way out of it successfully.

Seymour meanwhile wants to see a proper rooftop Father Christmas and literally ropes Compo into a santa suit and up a ladder. At least for Compo this is a way to impress Nora Batty.

As I have mentioned before Seymour just did not warm to me. He was too pompous and unfunny, even when he tries to break up a fight in a pub and ends up getting kicked out himself.

Even the Marina and Howard story seems to have run out of steam and it is only 1986. Only about another quarter of a century still to go for this affair to drag on.
