A poor episode.

The family have all moved on, Alf and Ada have opened up a Cafe, new lodger Osbert Rigby-Soames suggests to Ada that a good way to bring in some extra capital, would be to have a Spanish themed evening, The Vicar and his wife attend.

What on Earth, it's clear that there was a pretty big cull, and that the decision was made to take the show in an entirely new direction, pretty much all of the supporting cast have gone, and the setting has switched.

Did this new style of episode work? I'm afraid for me the answer is no, I didn't enjoy this one at all, I liked the new opening credits, and the slightly longer running time appealed, but it just wasn't The Larkins.

The family at home comedy has changed into something totally different, short on family, sadly short on laughs, the only slight chuckles coming from a bemused Vicar, and a slightly tipsy Hetty.

Watch out for John Bluthal, it wouldn't be all that long before he'd land Never mind the quality.

I haven't looked ahead, but I hope the format reverts back, sadly this just wasn't very good.

4/10.

Cafe Ole

It is all change for the Larkins. Series 5 sees Alf and Ada move house, they have opened a cafe.

The kids have left home. Joyce and Jeff have moved to America. Alf was made redundant.

However Alf is still following Ada's orders. They plan to go upmarket by giving their cafe a Spanish twist. However only posh lodger Osbert Rigby-Soames (Hugh Paddick) can really sell the Spanish cuisine such as to Reverend Spoonforth who has come to try the food.

It is left to Ada to sort out troublemakers such as Martinez who claims to have found snail in his food.

It is clear that the series has been reformatted but it is still not funny. Hugh Paddick could be a good addition but lot of the writing was slapdash.
