• Diana Kelper : [to the guy giving her a ride]  So, how'd you know who I was?

  Fred : Picture. Here. Keep it if you want.

  Diana Kelper : [laughs]  That was a crazy night, that night, winning that contest.

  [shakes head] 

  Fred : How much did you get?

  Diana Kelper : Oh, twenty-five bucks, is all, and this... little plastic trophy that totally broke before I even got it home. The bottom part fell off. It just goes to show, you never know what's gonna happen, I mean, that talent scout being there, and I almost didn't enter the contest at all, if my friends hadn't like totally pushed me into it. And then I win and I get offered a job just like I'm on So You Think You Can Dance.

  [he grunts] 

  Diana Kelper : Everybody was totally shocked. Everyone was. My parents especially. Especially them.

  [looks into the far-off distance as car speeds on] 

• Diana Kelper : What about my driver's license?

  Fred : License, that's a security thing. When you paid off your advance, you get it back. That's normal, ask anybody. Diane, I know you're upset, and that bothers me, because upset people can do dumb things. That application you filled out...

  [she gives him an impudent look] 

  Fred : you listed your parents, and your sister, husband, or places of employment. If you bail and I can't find you, I'll have to go to them.

  Diana Kelper : [tethered look]  Just don't do that.

  [shakes head in imploring way] 

  Fred : [smug smile]  Don't want to. So just think careful.

  [goes off, leaving her despondent]
