Farewell Jem and the Holograms
hellraiser77 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Warning do not read unless seen episode.

This is believe it or not my second favorite episode of the show but it's also one of my favorite finales of all time. This wasn't intended to be a series finale,, there was the possibility of having another season but due to the franchise fading in popularity the end was nigh. Personally, I'm glad they ended the show, for one thing this is one of the first times an American animated show had a conclusion which was rare and unheard of in not just animation but even most live action TV shows in general. Second, when you think about it, what else was the show really going to do, were they going to have more rival bands come into the picture to compete against which actually would've been interesting but that would've made things overcrowded which could of taken the focus off our main group. So yeah, a good thing they ended it before they started to really hit the bad notes.

I really like the storyline which is fitting because the identity and whereabouts of Ba Nee's father has been a plot thread that has hung around throughout the entire show, so it's fitting this plot thread is finally getting a resolution, it was also a relief for me because I've actually wanted this for the longest time, finally my wait has paid off in full.

You really feel bad for Ba Nee as finally the blues on the absence of her father has finally set in. Jem and the rest are of course on a mission to find who and where her father could be. It comes down to two people where there is one guy whom is a greedy lowlife that has a gambling problem. You instantly even before the other is interviewed this guy is not Ba Nee's father, as you see in another scene when he gets a tour in the Starlight Mansion, he is shown Ba Nee's room and from looking at that sterio and TV you know the only think on his mind is dollar signs. And of course, this leads to a dire ransom situation.

I'll admit the only weak point and inconsistency in this story is how Jem would just instantly believe this person is Ba Nee's father. Why wouldn't they look into this guy more thoughally and also don't they have to submit to a blood test; it just felt like an alarm bell should have gone off for Jem; let alone Jem should of waited till the rest of her group reported in.

This is a little hick up in the writing I can get past, any way we see the other guy and we know he is the real McCoy, as we see he has artistic talent much as Ba Nee does which shows how her talent truly runs in the family. He was in the war but due to his injury he has recovered one hundred percent of his memory. But also, we see the guy has painted a picture of a woman the looks like it could be Ba Nee if she was older.

I really like the suspense as we see throughout the rescue mission for Ba Nee his memories start to fire up. We are just on the edge of our seat hoping he'll remember everything because Ba Nee's life depends on it. It of course happens in the nick of time and we see her real father he comes in just as Ban Nee was trying to climb out but loses her grip and of course he manages to catch her, really like what she said to him which cemented the fact that Ba Nee's dad has finally found her and is taking her home. Even like what he did with the lowlife in the end, though it would have been cooler if he punched the guy but hey pushing him into a cage is good enough for me, which is the home for scum.

The music as usual is great all three songs are memorable and favorites of mine. From Jem's song "Family" which was sweet and true in its theme about what family really is. The second which is "A Father Should Be" in which Ba Nee sings herself which was really touching but also make me wonder about a lot of other kids that don't have fathers of their own.The final song at the end was really beautiful and really sad at the same time because it wasn't just a farewell song to Ba Nee but also a farewell song toward "Jem and the Holograms".

Not much to say but farewell Ba Nee, but most importantly farewell to you Jem/Jerica, Kimber, Aja, Reya, Shana, Stormer, Rio, and everyone else you been a positive piece of my childhood, really made things shine bright with you music. So farewell Jem and the Holograms, just like the stars in the sky you'll shine on forever.
