This edition was scheduled in an 11pm timeslot.
This edition received praise in the Liverpool Echo. Columnist Moira Martingale wrote (23rd September 1988):
"Isn't Wogan - in the capable hands of Sue Lawley - saucy now it's in a late-night spot? Germaine Greer was in fine, pretentious form, showing off her fluent French and Italian at any opportunity. Sue had introduced her in a most picturesque way: 'You straddle Europe from Tuscany to Essex,' she said. This conjured up a most interesting picture for me, enhanced further when Ms Greer cast aspersions on British men.
It seems that British men have the muckiest underpants in Europe, according to Germaine. As the audience laughed, she declared: 'They're laughing because they know it's true!' 'No,' said Sue, in one of the best put-downs I have seen in a long while. 'What they're laughing at is how you know it's true!'"
