Jennifer Lawrence is back in action, starring in a brand-new comedy after taking a break from Hollywood. Though she’s now a new mom, Lawrence is still a hot commodity. Fans love her as much as ever, and it’s clear that her signature sense of humor is still very much intact. Lawrence has been a working actor since childhood, appearing in TV shows and movies before getting her big break in a 2010 independent film. Ironically, that independent production might have been the one that shot Lawrence to stardom, but it remains one of her lowest-paid roles to date.

The non-ip, R-rated, mainstream Hollywood comedy has, sadly, practically become a thing of the past. The days of movies like "There's Something About Mary" making nearly $370 million worldwide are long gone, and the once-flourishing genre has now largely been relegated to streaming. But Jennifer Lawrence and director Gene Stupnitsky aren't ready to let it go without a fight. They've teamed up for "No Hard Feelings," a new comedy about Maddie (Lawrence), a rascally ride share driver who loses her car and subsequently gets hired by the parents of an introverted 19-year-old boy to "date" their son before he goes off to college. The parents are hoping the experience will break their boy out of his shell, and in return for Maddie's services, they'll give her a new car. Oh, the things people will do for a Buick. Check out the red-band trailer below.

Stream of the Day: 10 Years Ago, ‘Winter’s Bone’ Showed Why Jennifer Lawrence Was the Next Big Thing
With readers turning to their home viewing options more than ever, this daily feature provides one new movie each day worth checking out on a major streaming platform.
When Debra Granik cast her as the lead in her Sundance-winning “Winter’s Bone,” Jennifer Lawrence wasn’t entirely an unknown quanity. The Kentucky native had already notched some major milestones by the time Granik picked the 19-year-old to star in her Ozarks-set drug drama, including a recurring role on a network sitcom (TBS’ short-lived “The Bill Engvall Show”) and the Venice Film Festival’s Marcello Mastroianni Award for emerging talent. But Lawrence’s work in the Oscar-nominated 2010 feature has long been hailed as her breakthrough role, announcing her as a major talent to watch before Hollywood inevitably threw her into the franchise maw with “The Hunger Games.”

There are few brighter stars in Hollywood than Jennifer Lawrence. Ever since she broke through with her Academy Award nominated performance in Winter’s Bone, and especially once she starred in The Hunger Games, the A-list was a foregone conclusion for her. Lawrence is young, ambitious, talented, and a refreshingly honest presence in the industry. With a new starring role in Red Sparrow hitting this week, now is the perfect time to remind ourselves of just how good she really is. Below you’ll find her best performances, at least in my humble opinion, with a little bit about how she became the toast of tinseltown. Suffice to say, Lawrence is an icon, plain and simple. We can jump right off with her ten best performances to date: 10. House at the End of the Street 9. Red Sparrow 8. Passengers 7. Like Crazy 6. Joy 5. The Beaver 4. American Hustle 3. Winter’s Bone 2. mother! 1. Silver...

Jennifer Lawrence was pretty much always adorable...and often, adorably awkward at celebrity events. Before she wielded a bow and arrow as Katniss Everdeen, The Hunger Games star Jennifer Lawrence was introduced to much of the world as a relatively unknown Oscar nominee. She was just 20 years old when she was nominated for her first Academy Award, for her performance in Winter's Bone, her breakout role. She had previously starred on the TBS comedy series The Bill Engvall Show and the shows Medium, Cold Case and Monk (as a high school mascot!). Lawrence was very surprised that Winter's Bone got Oscar buzz. "Uh, I dunno," she told E! News...

Jennifer Lawrence swept into Hollywood like a hurricane, a comparison referring both to the relative suddenness of her celebrity as well as the young woman’s penchant for tripping and falling into things, people, really whatever’s close by. It’s rare for actors to rocket from obscurity to household-name status with the speed that Lawrence has, even actors as personable, lovely, and preternaturally talented as she. After a few years in barely-existent roles on TV (with the exception of an extended stint as the typical sitcom teenage daughter on “The Bill Engvall Show”), Lawrence trudged through exactly two little-seen indies ("Garden Party" and "The Poker House") before landing in a miscalculated prestige picture that nonetheless afforded her the opportunity to do some fine work. For her fourth appearance in a feature film, Lawrence stumbled into an Oscar nomination, and from there it was game, set, match. Lawrence sometimes acts like the successful product of.

For this week’s new spotlight piece, I wanted to again take a look at one of the biggest A listers in the industry…Jennifer Lawrence. I’ve written about her once or twice before, but as a legitimate megastar who’s also still a bit of an up and comer, I figured she was perfect for this piece once again. She’s someone who’s powerful in Hollywood, grounded in a way that most young stars aren’t, and above all else…one of the best actresses in the business, bar none, with an Oscar on her mantle to prove it. Lawrence consistently does interesting work and is more than worth checking in on here and there. As such, she’s perfect for the spotlight today, so let us dive in. Lawrence first got her start, like many young up and comers, on television. Guest spots on Cold Case,...

The transition from television star to cinematic award-winner is often difficult. Where actors in feature films tend to be regarded as prestigious, the actors you catch on a television show every week become almost like friends and are more relatable. This personal appeal can hinder prospective Oscar chances, as TV actors are denigrated as being less-than qualified for the statues than their featured peers.
Some 21st century exceptions to the rule include George Clooney, who rose to fame as Dr. Doug Ross on NBC’s ER, is now a two-time Oscar winner, one for his supporting role in 2005’s Syriana and the other for best picture for 2012’s Argo; Jennifer Lawrence, who starred as the oldest daughter on The Bill Engvall Show before it ended in 2009, is now a three-time Oscar nominee, winning once for her lead role in 2012’s Silver Linings Playbook; Melissa Leo,...

Prepare to feel very, very bad about your accomplishments: Jennifer Lawrence turns 23 today.
Ever since her Oscar-nominated breakthrough role in 2010's Winter's Bone, the Kentucky-born actress has gone from strength to strength professionally, winning both the coveted role of Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games and a 'Best Actress' Oscar this year for her performance in Silver Linings Playbook.
Which is all well and good. But it's Lawrence's grounded off-screen persona that has really made her beloved, as was made clear during Oscars week when she effectively became a one-woman internet meme factory.
Here, Digital Spy rounds up 23 of Lawrence's defining moments both on and off-screen.

It's easy to forget that Jennifer was already an Oscar nominee before she found fame in The Hunger Games. At 20, she became the third-youngest actress ever to be nominated for the 'Best Actress' Academy Award as Winter's Bone's Ree Dolly.

Here, Digital Spy rounds up 23 of Lawrence's defining moments both on and off-screen.
The Red Dress
It's easy to forget that Jennifer was already an Oscar nominee before she found fame in The Hunger Games. At 20, she became the third-youngest actress ever to be nominated for the 'Best Actress' Academy Award as Winter's Bone's Ree Dolly.

Jennifer Lawrence was interviewed by Vogue magazine, and in it she told them she knew she would be famous one day. Despite her Kentucky bluegrass beginnings, she always knew she would be a star. The Best Actress Oscar-winner for "Silver Linings Playbook" was interviewed in the September issue of Vogue magazine. Some of the gems include that she used to "lie in bed and wonder" about what would make her well-known. "It wasn't a vision. But as it's kind of happening, you have this buried understanding: Of course." She shares that she was sent to therapy too. The turning point for her was the TV series "The Bill Engvall Show" where she was cast. Then her mother realized Lawrence...

Jennifer Lawrence was a virtual unknown in Hollywood just three years ago, but thanks to an Oscar-nominated turn in low budget indie Winter's Bone and smart moves into the X-Men and Hunger Games franchises there's no escaping the 22-year-old Kentuckian.
Lawrence won her first Academy Award this week for her role as young widow Tiffany in Silver Linings Playbook, capping a remarkable 12 months that's seen her become the biggest female box office star (Hunger Games grossed a colossal $680 million worldwide), host Saturday Night Live and become the new face of Dior.
The future looks bright for Lawrence, too, with Hunger Games sequel Catching Fire, period drama Serena and a reunion with Silver Linings director David O Russell for The Ends of the Earth on the horizon.

Chicago – Mark Tonderai’s “House at the End of the Street” is not to be confused with this year’s “The House Across the Street” or either version of “Last House on the Left.” What Tonderai hopes you mistake it for is a classy Hitchcockian homage evocative of the Master’s most shocking and immortal picture, 1960’s “Psycho.”
That’s exactly what the creatively starved mainstream multiplexes need: another uninspired rehash of “Psycho.” Imagine if Marion Crane grew bored with her horndog beau Sam and became attracted to sensitive, soft-spoken Norman Bates. Imagine if Norman spent time finding faces in the bark of trees with the same odd mixture of thoughtfulness and whimsy that Ricky Fitts exuded while watching footage of a floating bag in “American Beauty.”
Blu-ray Rating: 0.5/5.0
Yes, dear readers, this is a touchy-feely variation on “Psycho,” with blonde soon-to-be-victimized Elissa falling for the blatantly unhinged nutcase next door.

Jennifer Lawrence is having a good year; not only did did she star in "The Hunger Games," one of the biggest movies of the past 12 months, she just scored a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical for her role in "Silver Linings Playbook."
"It's probably the only way you could wake me up early and not make me mad," Lawrence joked of her nomination on Dec. 13.
She may be a big screen queen now, but Lawrence actually got her start on TV in 2006. After guest spots on shows like "Monk" and "Cold Case," she landed a supporting role on the short-lived "Bill Engvall Show" from 2007-2009, after which she transitioned to movies with the critically-acclaimed "Winter's Bone."
For this week's installment of Flashback Friday, check out some nostalgic highlights from Lawrence's time on "The Bill Engvall Show," wherein she played Lauren, the daughter of Engvall's character.

Sometimes, when watching a movie or a television program, you stumble upon an actor or an actress whom you just feel is going places. Maybe they’re new on the scene or a veteran who’s never really been given a chance, but you get the sense that big things are ahead for them. You can almost envision them at the Oscar ceremony, smiling and waiting to hear if their names are called.
Just as often, though, you see people who don’t impress you one bit or happen to be involved in projects that don’t point to an especially bright future. It may not be their fault due to the material, or they may not have come into their own yet, but nothing at that point suggests an Oscar nominee in the making.

Once upon a time, there was a sort of caste system in place for actors and actresses in Hollywood.
Film and Television were kept as separate as possible, with mobility quite limited and often discouraged. When a performer went from one medium to the other, they were either a TV star on the way up to acting on the silver screen or a film star on the way down, willing to ply their trade on the small screen as opposed to the unemployment line.
Now we know that things have been upended in a big way, as big stars frequently shuffle back and forth. Television is hardly the ghetto that it used to be. And interestingly enough, this awards season features perhaps more former television stars contending for Oscar nominations than we’ve had in some time.

For more than 35 years, NBC’s Saturday Night Live has reigned as TV’s best live sketch show.
During this time, comedians have broken out into stars, musicians have found stardom, and celebrities have shown audiences a different side of themselves — all from appearing on one stage.
Though the regular cast brings viewers back week after week, the musical guest and particularly the host help lure in new or casual audiences. This season, the show’s 38th, has seen the likes of Louis C.K. (FX’s Louie), Daniel Craig (Skyfall) and, last week, Anne Hathaway (Les Misérables) tackling hosting duties.
Jeremy Renner (The Avengers) is set to host this week. Considering such entertaining guest stars, I thought about who else I’d like to see take the stage.

According to the La TV Insider Examiner, Suburgatory is adding two more guest stars to fill out the world of Chatswin. Tim Meadows and Paula Newsome have signed on to play Malik's parents this season, both set to appear in the seventh and eighth episodes of the ABC comedy. Meadows will be playing Edmond, the domesticated patriarch of the family known for his turkey meatballs, while Newsome will be portraying Tracie, a lawyer who tries to steer her family into being like the Obamas.
Little has been known about Malik thus far, so meeting his parents should provide a much clearer picture on the Medium aficionado. It fits in with the rest of the current storylines focusing on identity in relation to parents, as season one left off with Lisa finding out that Ryan is adopted and Tessa ready to embrace her mother's side of the family after being torn...

Jennifer Lawrence is turning 22 today, and we couldn’t be more proud of the “girl on fire.” Some of us fell in love with her back when she did Winter’s Bone, others jumped in with The Hunger Games, but regardless of when our fandom began, we haven’t been able to get enough of her. We watched teary-eyed and cheered her on as she protected her family, stepped in for Primrose, shot an arrow through an apple, devoted herself to Peeta and emerged a victor. Are we the only ones that pretend we’re Katniss Everdeen in the midst of the Games when we need to run those last few dreaded minutes on the treadmill? It definitely helped when we found out that she really trains that hard (sans arrows) off-set too.

Every movie critic and columnist is currently in full-on "Hunger Games" mode, furiously writing on every angle of the film. So why am I bothering to write this column, then? What makes my angle unique?
Unlike the other journalists, I haven't seen the movie. Not because I don’t think it looks worth seeing. It currently sits with an 86% "Fresh" rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and I love Jennifer Lawrence. After seeing "Winter's Bone," I've even gone back to watch episodes of "The Bill Engvall Show" just to see more of her. Plus, one of my favorite '80s flicks is "The Running Man," where Arnold Schwarzenegger, like Katniss, also fights to the death for the amusement of TV viewers in a future dystopia. Based on that info, I should have been lining up last week for the midnight premieres.
I didn't because I'm worried I'll get obsessed with yet another female-centered Young Adult series.

In The Hunger Games, Katniss Everdeen comes out of nowhere when she volunteers for the titular event, but she quickly makes an impression on Panem pundits, who give her fantastic odds to survive and thrive. Could the same be said for Katniss's portrayer, 21-year-old Jennifer Lawrence? With an Oscar nomination already in her quiver, The Hunger Games is poised to make her a household name, so we thought it high time to ask Hollywood insiders Vulture's perennial question: If Jennifer Lawrence was a stock, would you buy, sell, or hold?Stock History: After leaving high school two years early to pursue an acting career, Kentucky native Lawrence quickly found TV work as a teen, and was even a regular on TBS sitcom The Bill Engvall Show. At the ripe age of 21, Jennifer Lawrence is about to take her place among the select group of action heroines on the big screen. With a lead role in the much-trumpeted Hunger Games, and the prospect of a franchise the likes of Twilight and Harry Potter to follow in its wake, Lawrence has effectively capitalised on her stunning breakthrough last year. But who is she, and where did she come from?
It turns out Lawrence had one of those only-happens-in-movies moments when she was 14 and in New York on a work-finding mission from her native Kentucky. After reading for an Acting agent, it was a Modelling agent who spotted her, basically in the street, and signed her up for work - don't you just hate it when that happens? Like buses... anyway...

Jennifer Lawrence infuriated her parents when she missed out on a well-paid stint on TV after telling Disney executives she was not suitable for the role.
The star began her acting career as a teenager after being spotted by a model scout when she was aged 14, and went on to land jobs on The Bill Engvall Show, Monk and Medium.
Before breaking into the big time, Lawrence was called to audition for a Disney TV show, but shocked producers by insisting she wasn't right for the programme - a move which left her in hot water with her mum and dad.
She tells Britain's Stella magazine, "(In one audition I was) asked if I could sing, and I was like, 'No. To be honest I don't think I'm a Disney kind of kid.'
"When my parents picked me up they yelled at me so badly. They were spending a lot of money giving me the chance to do this - and I had the potential to be on a television show that would obviously pay for everything and I was like, 'Nah'."...
