Darkstorm refers to his enemies as "the spectral knights" though the group don't choose the Spectral Knights as their name until the end. Based on Heskedor and the Bearer of Knowledge using the term casually in "Lion Hunt", it seems this was a general way to refer to those with such powers in the last Age of Magic until it's made an official, symbolic title by the group who vow to dedicate themselves to opposing the Darkling Lords.
In the comic book series, both the Sky Claw and Dagger Assault were creations of a blacksmith in Darkstorm's employ, named Harkan. Who prior to the end of the Age of Science, was a science engineer. When delivering Darkstorm's armor for repairs, Mordred and Reekon find the Sky Claw, stored in moth balls at Harkon's forge. Upon touching it, Mordred reactivates it. Though Harken explains he can't build another Sky Claw, he mentions having another vehicle near complete, in storage. Later revealed to be the Dagger Assault.
The Darkling Lords are the first to acquire their vehicles; The Sky Claw and Dagger Assault. Mordred and Reekon; two of the three Darkling Lords who do not have Power Staffs. Discover they can reactivate vehicle motors when they restart a discarded aircraft in a scrap yard, which they later name the Sky Claw. Soon they obtain off screen, the large vehicle they call the Dagger Assault. A deleted line of dialogue from Reekon, when it first appears, had him tell Darkstorm, how he should charge him extra for retrieving it.
The way vehicles are reactivated, differs in the comic series. Rather than their engines be restarted, magic instead empowers them. Enabling their movement and weaponry systems to be operated by shear will, as well as bestow upon them the means to self-repair. All Visionaries can operate a vehicle once it is brought back to life. Non magic users cannot, as it becomes evident to the Sky Claws creator; Harkan, after he see's his creation come back to life by Mordred's touch. But cannot make it operate when he attempts to pilot it.
