"Community" has surprisingly been renewed. NBC has ordered a Season 5 of the drama-plagued, but beloved cult-hit comedy.
"Community's" renewal is some much-needed good news for the show, which hasn't had it easy. Always on the bubble, "Community" has been yanked off the schedule, benched more than once and suffered from some very public feuds.
"Community" Season 5 will be 13 episodes.
At the end of Season 3, headlines about beef between show creator Dan Harmon and star Chevy Chase surfaced. Then, Dan Harmon left the show. Season 4, which was supposed to start in October 2012, was held until February 2013. While the show was in production, Chevy Chase left.
The season finale of "Community" aired on Thursday, May 9 and matched its highest rating in nine weeks with a 1.3 rating among adults 18-49 and 3.14 million total viewers.

Chicago – Rarely has a low-rated show survived as much off-screen drama as NBC’s “Community,” returning tonight to the network bruised, battered, and slightly damaged but still funnier and smarter than most of the alternatives. Where do we begin? First, the network barely renews it, penciling it in on Friday nights as a partner to the show on NBC with the least-common fan base, “Whitney.” It was like agreeing to go on another date with someone you don’t really like but it’s not a show or a nice dinner, it’s breakfast at a greasy diner. It counts as a date, but just barely, and it doesn’t bode well for the future.
Television Rating: 3.5/5.0
Then it got really complicated. Showrunner and creator Dan Harmon was unceremoniously fired, finding out via the press that he would just be a consultant on the show and not the man in charge.

The Fall TV Season presentations for all the new network shows take place this week with the first announced today. Here's a full breakdown of which concepts have made the final list over on NBC.
With only a few shows from last season still sticking around (and none of them hits really), NBC is betting big on comedy this year to sit alongside its football and "The Voice" broadcasts. In fact though its ordered five new dramas, only two of those will be premiering in the Fall with the rest of the schedule filled out with either returning shows or new comedies.
"The Munsters" reboot "Mockingbird Lane" remains in development for a possible mid-season launch. Several other pilots didn't make the final cut and won't be seen, the most galling of which is the Alaskan-set conspiracy mystery thriller "Midnight Sun" with Julia Stiles and Titus Welliver. Also missing out were...

Several major shifts indicate that the network, currently at fourth place, is looking to rebuild from scratch.

Ahead of its upfront presentation on Monday (May 14), NBC has released its 2012-2013 primetime schedule, and it is heavy on shakeups as the struggling network attempts to refocus and make itself "Must-See TV" again. The biggest and strangest move is the shift of comedies "Whitney" and "Community" to Fridays at 8 and 8:30 p.m., respectively. NBC entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, did not beat around the bush when addressing how industry pundits interpreted the move. "I know that most people in our industry think Friday is a graveyard but we don't really believe that," Greenblatt said about the move. "If you don't build it they won't come."

Chicago – NBC revealed their Fall schedule today and there were multiple surprises including comedies moving to Tuesday and Friday nights (we were wondering where all of the sitcoms would go) and a Fall cycle of the hit singing show “The Voice.” Other major news is that “Smash” is being held for mid-season. The network also revealed that six new shows — two dramas, four comedies — will premiere in the Fall.
The big news for comedy fans is that Thursdays have been tinkered with again as the final season of “30 Rock” will kick off the night at 7pm Cst, followed by “Up All Night,” “The Office,” and “Parks and Recreation.” In the 9pm Cst timeslot that was the kiss of death last season with “Prime Suspect,” “The Firm,” and “Awake,” the network has given up and will air the low-rated but inexpensive “Rock Center with Brian Williams.”

With CBS in repeat mode*, several Thursday shows — including three “bubble” series – rebounded from last week’s soft numbers.
NBC’s Community, with 3.2 million total viewers, a 1.4 demo rating and a luminous Gillian Jacobs, inched up 6 and 8 percent, while fellow NBC comedy Up All Night (3.2 mil/1.5) — leading out of a fresh Office episode — wrapped its freshman run with gains of more than 20 percent.
2012 Renewal Scorecard: What’s Coming Back? What’s Getting Axed? What’s on the Bubble?
At 10 o’clock, with The Mentalist riding the pine, ABC’s Scandal (7.5 mil/2.1) upticked a bit; NBC’s Awake however stayed flat...

Every year, the five major broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, The CW, Fox and NBC) order pilots to be considered for the fall season. A pilot, as you may know, is the first episode of a TV series and the final step in a long development process from idea to screen.
From the 87 drama and comedy pilots ordered this year, a new crop of television shows will be selected -- and I read the scripts for each and every one of them. Over the course of this week, I'm walking you through the network's pilot slates, offering a bit of analysis on their present schedules and providing you with a rundown of the drama contenders. (Plus, a little bit of info about the comedies, too.) Of course, not all of these shows will find their way to your TV set -- in fact, most of them you may never hear of again.

John Cho is set to star in CBS' untitled Scott Silveri comedy pilot.
Phillip C. Vaden also has been cast in the Warner Bros. TV project, which revolves around a group of people who hang out at an all-night diner from midnight-6 a.m.
Cho will play a regular at the diner, where he conducts business via his laptop. Vaden will play another regular, a preoccupied insomniac who is collecting doctorate degrees.
Cho recently wrapped Harold & Kumar 2, in which he reprises his role as Harold Lee. He next appears in The Air I Breathe and West 32nd, both of which will premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival, and Smiley Face, which debuted at the Sundance Film Festival.
