Fashion activists name and shame the fur-clad celebs

26 December 2009 4:06 PM, PST | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

Among those attacked for their choice of clothing are Kate Moss, Catherine Zeta Jones and Rihanna

Kate Moss, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Elizabeth Hurley are used to dominating society's best-dressed lists. But this week they will find themselves topping a more dishonourable fashion list.

The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (Peta) Foundation has drawn up a roll call of the fashion world's Worst Dressed Celebrities based on their penchant for pelts. The Duchess of Cornwall and Shirley Bassey will also grace the list, as will football Wags Coleen Rooney and Alex Gerrard, and the singer Rihanna.

The "winner", to be chosen in an online poll, will be announced in February by Stella McCartney, a vegetarian who refuses to use any leather and fur in her designs.

The award is considered to be a powerful weapon in the fight against fur. Last year Paris Hilton and Christina Ricci announced a »

Morning Brew: Tuesday, Dec. 22

22 December 2009 7:00 AM, PST | AfterEllen.com | See recent AfterEllen.com news »

We've got a great brew today, folks.

Let's start with this, Skins fans:

You want it poster-sized, don't you? The issue, featuring an interview with Naomily actresses Kathryn Prescott and Lily Loveless is out now.

How did I not know about this? Apparently there is a "quick lesbian scene" between Keira Knightley and Hayley Atwell in their film, The Duchess. The movie is now available on DVD, and could be a great last minute gift for a friend who likes British women bedding one another.

Sundance is going to be so gay this year. The Runaways is officially in good company with the addition of The Kids Are Alright from High Art director Lisa Cholodenko, starring Julianne Moore and Annette Benning as lovers. It's being described as a "drama with a sexy script." Please let that sexiness be between the aforementioned actresses. Don't let me down, Lisa!

Movie Review - 'The Young Victoria'

18 December 2009 12:52 AM, PST | GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news »

The Young Victoria

Starring Emily Blunt, Rupert Friend, and Paul Bettany

Directed by Jean-Marc Vallée

Rated PG

It's not exactly true that every year about this time, a British costume drama arrives in theaters pushing for Oscar glory. It's not exactly untrue, either. Last year it was Keira Knightley's The Duchess, and the year before that it was Knightley's Atonement and Cate Blanchett's sequel to Elizabeth.

So, at the very least, we're getting our fair share of this sort of thing, which brings us to The Young Victoria, a bio-pic of the longest tenured British royal. Victoria reigned for almost 65 years and is certainly worth a movie, probably a better one, even.

It isn't that The Young Victoria is a bad film, just indifferent. It is easy to look at, of course, following the blueprint established over recent years. It features a nice, mostly convincing performance by Emily Blunt. »

Knightley 'Poses Nude For Artist'

14 December 2009 4:16 AM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

British actress Keira Knightley has reportedly stripped off to pose naked for an acclaimed artist.

The Pirates of the Caribbean actress, who bared all to film a bath scene with Sienna Miller in their 2008 movie The Edge of Love, has allegedly been shedding her clothes during sessions at London's Halcyon Gallery for Mitch Griffiths.

A source tells The Mail on Sunday, "It’s considered a great honour to be painted by Mitch. He is a highly respected nude painter and is painting a number of subjects for an exhibition next year. He is delighted Keira agreed to take part."

Last year body-proud Knightley demanded that promotional adverts for her 2008 movie The Duchess were left untouched after the promos for 2004's King Arthur were changed to enhance her breasts. »

Cooper Eyes Sadistic Thriller Playing 'The Devil's Double'

10 November 2009 1:22 AM, PST | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

If there's one thing I particularly dug about An Education it was Dominic Cooper's smug, suave and mildly compassionate character. I mildly remembered him from The Duchess, but beyond that his roles in The History Boys and even Mamma Mia! are lost on me. Perhaps they were small and forgettable or just plain forgettable, but he was one cool cat in An Education and it's nice to see him scoring some additional work even if it is for Lee Tamahori, the director of the disappointing Bond film Die Another Day and xXx: State of the Union.

The film is The Devil's Double and is described by Screen Daily as a taut action tale about the extraordinary life of Latif Yahia. Cooper will play Yahia, a dead ringer for Saddam Hussein's sadistic and widely despised son, was forced against his will to stand in for Uday in potentially dangerous situations. »

Keira Knightley

According to Telegraph.co.uk, Keira Knightley (Pirates of the Caribbean) has won the role of Eliza Doolittle in a new film adaptation of “My Fair Lady.”

Scarlett Johansson was also up for the lead role, but the site reported that Joe Wright has come on to direct, and it seems that Wright has gone with Knightley, who he directed in “Pride & Prejudice” and “Atonement” to star.

Academy Award-winner Emma Thompson (Sense and Sensibility) is writing the screenplay. Daniel Craig is also being mentioned as a possibility to play Professor Henry Higgins.

Dominic Cooper To Play Fandral In Thor?

19 October 2009 7:17 PM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Kyle Buchanan at Movieline interviewed actor Dominic Cooper (The Duchess, Mamma Mia!) not long ago and managed to scoop some interesting information from him about Kenneth Branagh’s upcoming Marvel Studios film based on Marvel’s God of Thunder.

Towards the end of the interview, while talking about the possibility of Mamma Mia! 2, Buchanan noticed Thor script sides beside him and directly asked him if he had auditioned for a role in the Thor movie. After a pause, Cooper revealed that he “kind of” did and questioned back if the interviewer knew of any good Thor roles for him.

Having read what was on the top page (upside down), Buchanan wittingly replied “Fandral, maybe?”

This generated a bit of humor as Cooper looked down at the script sides and said, “You know! You’re looking at these very confidential pages!”

Buchanan then said “I can read upside down, Dominic” to »

Gemma Arterton Becomes Frears' 'Tamara Drewe'

2 September 2009 3:32 PM, PDT | GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news »

I haven't seen enough of Gemma Arterton - and most likely, neither have you - to say whether or not she's worth the build-up. Probably the last time a young British starlet emerged like this was Keira Knightley, who, it is safe to say, has turned out to be a much better investment than you would've thought six years ago. In fact, it's hard to imagine Atonement and The Duchess even existing without her.

We'll see what the future holds for Arterton, but at the very least, we know she'll be busy. The other Bond girl from Quantum of Solace, Arterton will appear in Clash of the Titans and Prince of Persia next year, as well as a new Wuthering Heights, so by the time Tamara Drewe rolls around, we'll have a better idea of what she can do.

Drewe is a live-action adaptation of the graphic novel by Posy Simmonds »

News Flash: Channing Tatum’s ‘Eagle of the Ninth’ Starts Filming in Hungary

28 August 2009 12:40 AM, PDT | Channing Tatum Unwrapped | See recent Channing Tatum Unwrapped news »

As I previously mentioned, Channing Tatum left for Hungary on August 9th to prepare for his upcoming film, 'The Eagle of the Ninth', after wrapping up the 'G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra' press tour. I even had a surprised Hungarian fan send me an email to let me know she may have spotted Chan running (his favorite exercise routine) on a bridge in Budapest. I don't know if it was actually him on that bridge or not, but I can confirm that filming began yesterday for the Roman epic that has been called a "'Braveheart' for a new generation".

There's a lot of fire power behind this movie...The film is directed by Academy Award winner Kevin Macdonald and produced by Academy Award and Golden Globe Award nominee Duncan Kenworthy ('Four Weddings and a Funeral). In addition to Chan, 'The Eagle of the Ninth' will also star Jamie Bell ('Defiance', »
