Heading into an international break, Newcastle United vs Arsenal takes on an added importance due to the fact that the Magpies are yet to win a Barclays Premier League game yet this season, while the Gunners’ title challenge looks in danger of faltering already.
After securing a first win as Newcastle boss in the Capital One Cup Second Round against Northampton Town on Tuesday night, now Steve McClaren is looking for his opening Barclays Premier League victory. So far this season, Newcastle have drawn 2-2 at home to Southampton, been soundly beaten 2-0 away at Swansea City, and earned a hard-fought point via a goalless draw at Old Trafford against Manchester United.
However, the Magpies face one of their bogey teams next in the league, with Arsenal visiting St James’ Park on Saturday lunchtime (12.45pm kick-off).

Thierry Henry has labelled John Carver’s 2015 Newcastle United side “one of the worst teams” he’s ever seen in the Barclays Premier League – and admits he is enthused by the changes Steve McClaren is implementing at the Magpies.
Carver won just three games as Newcastle boss throughout the entirety of the second-half of the 2014-15 campaign, and the Magpies picked up three points only once on the road under his tutelage.
Describing the Magpies’ away performances as “shocking” in 2015, Henry insists that McClaren’s Newcastle are far removed from the Carver edition – and that their performance in the 0-0 draw at Old Trafford against Manchester United on Saturday was “good”.
Adam Davy/Empics Sport
While appearing on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, Arsenal legend Henry said of Carver’s Newcastle:
“Away from home last year’s (Newcastle) side were shocking – they were one of the worst teams I’ve seen.

Aleksandar Mitrovic believes he needs to “stay calm” on the pitch in the Barclays Premier League – and then the goals will really start to flow for him in a Newcastle United shirt.
The 20-year-old Serbian was booked less than 15 seconds after coming on to the field off the bench on his debut, and then little more than a minute into his second appearance as a substitute.
But, following an impressive display in the 0-0 draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday – when he started for Newcastle for the first time – Mitrovic has revealed he has spoken to the coaches and has tried to calm his approach to matches.

Rob Lee believes some players have “struggled to adapt to the pace of life” in the Barclays Premier League due to the short intervals between fixtures – but insists Newcastle United squad must get used to that if they want to end the club’s 47-year trophy drought.
The Magpies host Northampton Town at St James’ Park in the Capital One Cup Second Round on Tuesday night (7.45pm kick-off) having already played three Premier League fixtures without recording a victory.
First-team players such as Tim Krul have suggested that some of the Magpies’ squad are “knackered” already, but Newcastle legend Lee does not believe the players can use that as an excuse not to win a tournament.

Tim Krul has urged Steve McClaren to rest some of Newcastle United’s first-team players against Northampton Town – because they are “absolutely knackered” following their hard-fought goalless draw at Old Trafford.
The Magpies put in a brilliant defensive performance to secure a point from their visit to face Manchester United on Saturday in the Barclays Premier League, their third fixture of the season already.
Next up for McClaren’s men is Northampton at home in the Capital One Cup Second Round on Tuesday evening (7.45pm kick-off), and goalkeeper Krul believes some of those players who started the Man Utd game should be left on the sidelines in preparation for Arsenal on Saturday.

Newcastle United may be without a victory from their opening three fixtures in the 2015-16 Barclays Premier League campaign, but optimism is beginning to spread around the North East that this Magpies side could achieve something in the near future.
Steve McClaren’s side registered their first clean sheet of the season in an impressive display as they drew 0-0 against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday, and a new style is currently being implemented by the Newcastle backroom staff.
Five players have also arrived this summer at a combined cost of almost £50 million, suggesting that Mike Ashley is finally starting to show a bit of ambition at the Magpies, but it is Tuesday night’s fixture with Northampton Town at St James’ Park (7.45pm kick-off) in the Capital One Cup Second Round that will really prove whether or not Newcastle are sticking to their owner’s end-of-season promises.

Welcome to the first half of the "American Idol" finale. It's Caleb Johnson versus Jena Irene for the big prize, whatever that happens to be at this point in "Idol" history. On Tuesday (May 20), each of the finalists will sing thrice. On Wednesday, over two hours, we'll be treated to guest stars and group performances until we want to tear our collective hair out. Then somebody will win. And then I'll go recap the "Survivor: Cagayan" finale, hoping that Twitter doesn't ruin it for me first. Let's get down to our Tuesday business... 8:00 p.m. Et. Ryan Seacrest is tuxed up for our first night at the Nokia Theatre. 8:01 p.m. Keith is keeping it casual, but Harry is also wearing a tuxedo. J-Lo has a black leather dress with a sparkling top. As she would 8:03 p.m. Caleb is wearing a lot of fringe. Jena is wearing gold stretchy pants.

Fa chairman Greg Dyke summed up the feelings of many with his throat slitting gesture as England’s 2014 World Cup group was drawn. This generation of players has been England’s worst in some time and putting them up against Italy and Uruguay, both hotly tipped as contenders for the latter stages of the tournament, suggests a strong possibility of England failing to make it out of the group stage for the first time since 1958, where they failed to win a single game (although they have, of course, failed to qualify at all since then).
England’s hopes are not quite so bleak as they may seem, though. The 2014 group is admittedly a much greater challenge than the E.A.S.Y. (England, Algeria, Slovenia, “Yanks”) draw that England struggled with in 2010, but it is not the dreaded Group of Death. Fellow unseeded Europeans...

Fast National ratings for Thursday, March 20, 2014. Second Round coverage from the Ncaa Tournament got off to a slow start for CBS, allowing "Scandal"-driven ABC to win the night among young viewers, while "American Idol" helped Fox eke out an overall win. For "Scandal" it was a good week, as a big cliffhanger and the lack of "Elementary" competition led to a small bump. The news was less good for "American Idol," which fell below a 2.0 rating in the key demo. Without CBS' in the mix, both "Community" and "Parks and Recreation" made rare visits above the 3 million viewer mark, while "Parenthood" rose above 4 million. On to the numbers... Among adults 18-49, ABC averaged a 2.0 rating for Thursday night, edging out Fox's 1.8 rating in the key demographic. CBS and NBC tied for a distant third with a 1.1 key demo rating, ahead of the 0.9 key demo rating for The CW. Overall,...

A shocking elimination left everyone in tears on the May 9 episode of ‘American Idol.’ Are you happy with the top two?
After the top three girls — Angie Miller, Candice Glover and Kree Harrison — sang their hearts out on the May 8 episode, one talented girl was voted off the show on May 9. Do you agree with the results, HollywoodLifers?
‘American Idol’ — A Shocking Elimination
First the girls sang Selena Gomez’s “Who Says” with a minor technical difficulty in the beginning.
The girls wanted to give back so they went to sing with the Lacha Jazz Choir.
We watched some highlights from last night before mentor Jimmy Iovine weighed in.
“In the beginning of the show, they all felt a little nervous.” Jimmy said Angie not playing the piano for “Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word” was a big mistake. Instead of having a big moment, she got a 9/10.

The tears were flowing and not just from the contestants when they went home for the first time in four months! Judges Nicki Minaj, Mariah Carey, Keith Urban and Randy Jackson seemed like they have their mind made up for the top two. Do you agree with them, HollywoodLifers?

It’s that time of year again, folks – The BuzzFocus.com Spring Madness TV Tournament is back!
It’s the Ides of March – we’re no soothsayers here, but we know that Game of Thrones will look to defend its Spring Madness title. It won’t be easy however, with stalwarts like Dexter, The Walking Dead and Boardwalk Empire gunning for the throne. And let’s not forget how White Collar had an impressive showing last year, taking its high stakes game all the way to the final. Newbies like Scandal, The Americans and Arrow will look to be the tournament’s dark horse, coming from nowhere for a shot at the crown and all the glory that comes with it.
Teams have been broken down into four regions. There will be five rounds of play with the Final matchup going down in tandem with the Ncaa Men’s Basketball Finals.
